WOW!!! Let me say that again...WOW!!!
Obviously, this isn't for everyone, and in reality, it's for a small percentage of movie lovers who appreciate this genre. This is just about as dark, hard, ugly, and in your face as you're ever going to get, but it's so well done in every way.
My hat is off to literally all involved here. Steven R. Monroe, who also did the remake of I spit on your Grave in 2010 is a true force to be reckoned with. The writing, the acting, the set design, the FX work, and the cinemtography all is spot on and everything here looks like a $10 Million Plus movie.
This isn't a sequel, as nothing in the actual story has anything to do with the original or the remake. The theme is the same and things play out much like the earlier ISOYG's, but otherwise, this is a brand new little slice of the ultimate torture porn.
I've said it many times and I'll say it again here - I can usually tell within 30 seconds of watching a movie if it's going to rock or take a dump and I knew immediately this was something "special"...and it sure as Hell is.
This is just brutal, in your face, no holds barred, no punches pulled, played for reals film making in its rawest state. But, the characterization is all spot on and you'll find yourself hating the characters you're supposed to hate and fearing for, hurting for, and ultimately cheering on our Protaganist.
Attention to detail is also spot on and although the events that play out are, for the most part, things that wouldn't really happen in real life, there aren't any WTF moments of siliness.
I don't need to say much more. You know from the title and word of mouth alone if this is something you're going to want to see. If it's not your cup of Joe, stay away - stay far away. But, if you enjoed the remake from 2010, you're going to love this thing, as, IMO, it tops it in every way.
For me, this is up there with such classics as Martyrs and others of its kind.
Grade A+ (for lovers of gore and torture porn) F (for those lovers of Bambi and feel good flciks)
