SOme of you may be familiar with this one, while most others won't have a clue.

Well, back in 2006, Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies) put together this little horror "classic" with unknown actress Amber Heard in the title role.  It did well at festivals and was released overseas in 2008, but never here in the states, until earlier this year.  It was actually v ery difficult to even get a DVD of the flick.

Was it worth the wait?  Did the Weinsteins make a poor decision not to release it and sell it to a Distributor that went bankrupt?  Did those feisty Weinsteins make the right call in reaquiring it years later?

Well, let's start by saying I was one of those peeps trying my ass off to get a copy of the DVD for years, as I had heard great things about it.  I was thrilled when I heard it was actually being released, but a bit miffed when I found out how small the release was.  So, I said, "Fuck it", and waited for the Blu Ray from Netflix.

First of all, if you don't know the story/plot, don't ask or read, just watch the flick, as it's interesting and very non standard for horror/slasher flicks.  It's got balls, too.  There's an offbeat feel runing through it the entire run time.

It's also a very good looking film...to me, at least.  It's got that 70's/80's grindhouse look, but not as in cheap crap.  It's well shot and actually has a rather unique look to it.

Other than Amber Heard, who actually does a very impressive job in her first role, the acting isn't anything to write home about.  There are laugh out loud lines and some poor performances.

But, if you stick with it and don't give up, I think you'll be happy with the feeling it leaves you with.  It's different and eve though its release comes 7 years after being completed, it still really doesn't feel dated to me at all.

The music also is well done and chosen.  Again, this flick just has a cool vibe to it, IMO.

Far from great, and probably poor to many, this flick definitely does deserve to be seen and heard.  There are lessons to be learned in structure and character, and even story.  And, I'm not saying it all works, but when it does work, it works well.

Probably one of my favorite slasher movies.  I know some people will be like "What?!  You're nuts!" -- but yes, I just really, really enjoy this movie.

This comes down to, as Jeff pointed out above, the look of the film.  He's right on with the grindhouse comment.  The cinematography in this, provided by the talented Darren Genet, was really good.  It's just the entire look and feel of this movie that drew me in and made me fall in love with it.  It's dreary, dreamy and just amazing to look at.  In comparison, look wise, to other slashers, this is the best IMO.

The soundtrack, also, is amazing.  It's so so so good.  Brilliant.  Another factor as to why I love this movie.  Songs from Bedroom Walls, Dead Waves, and the song "Sister Golden Hair" is just so awesome.  The soundtrack just totally fits the vibe of the movie.

I bagged a copy of this about two or three years ago on Amazon UK and it's been sitting on my shelf ever since.  Last time I watched it was about three months ago.  I was so happy upon hearing it was FINALLY getting it's official release, so that other people could finally sit down and enjoy this movie.

I'd give this an 8/10.  Like Jeff said, some of the acting is "eh" but overall, good performances.  Amber Heard was great as Mandy.

I'd say this is a must-see for any fan of the slasher genre, especially those who like slasher movies.

I saw this back in 2008 on DVD.

A few months back I saw it on the coming soon section on imdb and was like "they remade this movie!!!". Only later did I find out that they are re-releasing the same movie 7 years after it was made. Strange decision, you would think anyone that wanted to see has already seen it and a lot of people have caught it by accident.

Anyway, I thought this was a pretty standard flick, nothing new or original, wasn't really worth the viewing for me. That pool scene was cool, rest of the movie was meh.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Super cool movie. Definitely flawed, but looks great and has a slightly unique feel to it. What makes this one particularly interesting, i think, aside from the unsuually good cinematography, is the heavy emphasis on the theme of sexual pressure, something the film treats with a respect unusual for the genre.

I would definitely recommend checking this one out, with the caveat that many probably will find this quite bad, as Jeff says.
