I know I am a little late with this but am I the only one to find this movie to be brilliant. I seriously loved it, Fantastic writing, Great directing and amazing acting, it was really the complete package.

Its really a shame Andy Serkis the actor who played Caesar will most likely not get nominated for any major awards, his performance was awesome.

I cant say enough good things about this movie, Normally I am not a fan of big "hollywood" movies and reboots, but this film (and on many levels its predecessor) shows that if done right these films can still have great quality.

What did you guys think about it?

Brilliantly made, but I found it very disturbing morally...perhaps more than any film I've ever seen.

I know that sounds strange, but the film felt like an advert for the war industry. The whole ethos was that it is impossible to avoid violence.

It was also sad to see that humans accept violence so much that they appear incapable of even imagining a world, or a species that's not like them.

SPOILERS:::

The worst part was where Caesar killed the main bad guy. "Ape not kill Ape"..."You are not an Ape".

END SPOILERS

This is classic war time psychology where one side imagines the other as being less than human, something that results in horrific war crimes and a never ending cycle of violence.

To see this disturbed psychology being sold as entertainment to the next generation saddened me on a level I didn't think possible.

No doubt this post will seem silly to many, but it's just something I felt very deeply watching the film. If even our Art is incapable of imagining better ways, there is no hope for humanity.

Thanks for that review, Scar. After watching trailers I was hesitant to see it; couldn't figure out why.

Good to see Clorox around these boards again. And ST.

I'm still gonna go see this. I can see why there's problems with it, as stated. These days it's hard. But as I said on another thread, "It's only a film."

I take the points made. And I kinda agree, But if you can't do this in a film, where can you do it? People read into them from their own baggage. I use that term for want of a better one.

I'm gonna go see it because few films even worth bothering dragging my lazy ass off the sofa to bother with. But this is one of those. I think I'd regret not doing so. All else I got coming is Interstellar. Nothing else I see entices.

If you know of ones that should be seen widescreen with popcorn, please PM.

I see where your coming from with this viewpoint but I saw it slightly different. I saw it more as a commentary on the fact that no intelligent human like species can maintain extended peace.

Spoilers

Throughout the film Caesar has the firm belief Apes are better then humans because Apes are one big happy family. This belief is shattered because of the betrayal of Koba and it forces Caesar to realize that the Apes really are no better then humans and this ideal he thought he created was false and destined to fall apart.

End Spoilers

I didnt see it as promoting the war industry but more a simple commentary on human beings warlike nature. Atleast thats how I took it, but after reading your post I can see how it could be interpreted your way as well.

Either way we agree it was a film well worth seeing.

Best movie of the Summer thus far (although I have a feeling Guardians will knock it down to second). Solid story, relatable motives, stellar CGI. A must see by all means.

I saw it today in 3D and wasn't impressed. I often found myself bored. I went with my gf and kids, she loved it, kids were, meh. Same for me really. Story didn't impress me at all. Just the same old, same old, but with chimps. Et tu Brute!

Oh dear. Still, I think I'm gonna love it. Just got to stop with the cake, find the keys and get my sorry ass off the sofa and go.

There's also the sheep to worry about. But I'll let the wolves and doggies do that. For a coupla hours at least. Baa.

Dude, you gotta stop with all this shit.  Really...beyond getting old or just plain old old...it's frickin' so irritating.

If you don't like it just ignore it.

Do you really think something productive is going to come out of you telling him that he needs to stop?

You're too easily excitable as evident in other threads you post. Chill, this is the internet.

Was that aimed at me?

I went there expecting to like it. It is one of my all time favourite stories... but this, this is an also ran in comparison to the 2011 story. Weak.

Erm, no.

Probably best leave it there.

Hmmm,

You didn't miss much. Probably best not bring it all back up.

I always think there's three sides to every true tale - there's my side, the um, other side's story and then there's the truth.

I'd say I'm not the one to tell it. An innocent bystander, or the mod who had to do the deleting might tell it better.

I will say this before I go - Deadite's post of George Costanza sitting on the sofa made me laugh out loud several times. Even the thought of it still does. Immaculate timing too.
