Nothing new, but I found it genuinely creepy...even if all the creeps were manipulative and your typical chair rocks, stereo plays by itself type of gag.
Had a feeling of real evil to it that I've not seen for a long time.
Very surprised to see how poor the reviews are, for me one of the best horrors I've seen.
I thought it was a lot better than the Conjuring, but it seems I'm in a significant minority.
I had quite high hopes for this film. I did not see, The Conjuring, before it so I had no clue of what I was about to see. What I saw was a 1960s television drama with jump scares. To say I was disappointed would be putting it mild.
Had I viewed The Conjuring, however, I would have understood the Dragnet style in which this film was put together. And whilst I still would think Annabelle was a fairly crappy prequel, I would have better understood where the film maker was coming from.
Basically don't bother seeing this - watch Rosemary's Baby instead (obviously the film maker was inspired by this film at some point).
Yep...it's all been done before, but I haven't seen an original mainstream film in decades.
SPOILERS:
The strength here was in how the filmmakers made it seem believable that she'd want to kill herself to protect the baby, and forfeit her own soul. The sense of Evil was palpable in a way I can't remember seeing in a film before.
END SPOILERS.
I thought it was superb. I'm not normally in the minority on films like this. Strange...especially as I've seen so many other horrors get decent reviews which weren't a patch on this.
C'mon scar a lot better than the Conjuring. I'd have to disagree. The Conjuring was a full package. While I don't completely fall on the side of the majority of folks hating on Annabelle, I acknowledge most of their grievances. The beginning home invasion was far scarier IMO than what followed. Well, out side of the "elevator door" and "swinging door."
I went into the film thinking it was directed by the same director as The Conjuring, and while watching kept thinking this is similar but this cant be that guy, and sure enough it wasn't. It was the editor of the Conjuring cutting his teeth on Annabelle as the director. Not too shaby. But, better than The Conjuring. Written way, way better.

Commodus: But the Emperor Claudius knew that they were up to something. He knew they were busy little bees. And one night he sat down with one of them and he looked at her and he said, "Tell me what you have been doing, busy little bee..."
