Holy fucking shit. This was the best film I have seen this year, by a long shot. Hell, it's one of the best films I have seen this decade. Nothing short of a masterpiece. It was one of the most thrilling films I have seen, despite being about as far removed from the typical 'thriller' (I'm looking at you, Liam Neeson), as possible.
I was absolutely exhausted by the time it ended, it was that intense. Yet, I was right back in the cinema the next evening, for a second viewing.
I cannot recommend this highly enough.
Any of you others had the privilege of catching this?

What bothered me about the movie was that the characters had little depth. They were too one dimensional. Only had one motivation. One was like - I'm gonna make you great no matter what, and I'm gonna put you through hell to get you there. The other wanted to be great.
There were quite a few "music video" scenes, kind of reminded me of Rocky IV
I didn't understand why this movie got so much hype. Well, I actually do, understand, It's a fine film but not great IMO.
This movie had me holding my breath the entire runtime and I can't say that about a lot of movies. I hadn't seen a preview before watching this, nor did I really know what it was even about. I don't think I would have believed anyone had they told me that a movie about a drummer at a music conservatory would have me on the edge of my seat, but this movie made my palms sweat.
This movie is so well edited, the music is fantastic, the acting is incredible, I really can't say enough good things about this one. Although I do hold Birdman (a film students wet dream) a bit above this movie, this is a powerhouse movie and a must see.
While I agree there wasn't much to these characters, the actors did a good job of keeping this story entertaining with them verbally jabbing each other. I enjoyed it because I am (was) a drummer and liked the music. It won't be studied for character depth and fell short on many things we usually strive for in our films, but still kept me watching and enjoyed JK's poking all those people with his wit. Not for everyone, but I liked the heck out of it.
