Flanagan's first two features are fantastic supernatural horror-dramas, but this no-frills home invasion movie with almost no dialogue really shows his versatility.

Tight plotting, smart characters, sensible choices, almost entirely visual storytelling. A must-watch for screenwriters, in my opinion.

Fast-paced, no story, gimmicky.

Watching the movie it felt to me like they came up with the idea and shot this movie really fast.

Not my cup of tea. I'm sure the fast pace will hit home with a lot of people and they'll like it. Doesn't work for me.

I really liked Oculus. This is a different type of movie from Flanagan's other two features. It'll find a lot of fans, I'm just not one of them. But I get why people would like this movie.

This is streaming on Netflix and it ain't a bad little movie.

And when I say "little movie", that';s exactly what it is.  And it feels little too.  It also feels very low budget.  But you know what?  It works.

Solid performances and just enough originality to keep things moving.

Nothing remotely Earth shattering here, but a good example of keeping things very simple and still delivering a solid movie.

Watched this one last night and...

Loved it!

Clever angle that the main character is deaf, it adds another layer to the suspense. Hollywood did the same thing with another fav of mine:  Wait Until Dark - Audrey Hepburn playing a blind woman. Uma Thurman in Jennifer8 did it less successfully.

This was a straight forward, one location, damsel in distress who fights back tale, and provides some good lessons in terms of screenwriting. When he removes his mask after she writes on the window that she hasn't seen his face was terrific. Enough surprises to keep me on the edge of my seat and a satisfying ending. Keep it simple is another good take-away.

This has a definite vibe of The Strangers - only a two-hander in this case.

I'm curious about one thing: does every 911 call get responded to when the caller on the other end of the phone doesn't utter a word? Or was this some emergency device inbuilt in her phone considering she's mute?

Thoroughly enjoyable popcorn movie!

Yeah, I enjoyed this one too, very effective for a low budget, limited location thriller... shows what can be done with a clever script and a good director.

Good example for screenwriters too, sparse but effective storytelling.

Surprised at the love for this.

I found it very dull and generic.

You're right, Rick, but IMO, it was the execution that a couple steps above the pack that made it work.

Nothing great, by any means, but for me, it was effective and unsettling.

I also found it very generic, but I liked the deaf-mute lead and how they incorporated it into the horror scenes.

The movie was done very well for what it was, but I'm just kind of sick of seeing the same thing over and over again. This one sticks out from the piles of mediocre Horror films out there, but there's still very little originality to it. I did enjoy it, but I'm not sure how re-watchable it could be.
