Oof what a punch in the gut this movie was.

I've been waiting to check this one out for awhile after hearing good things, but it never expanded to Canada. It was just released today to buy on iTunes and I highly recommend it! I'm a big fan of Mike Birbiglia, who wrote and directed this, he's done a few screenwriting interviews on podcasts that are very much worth the listen.

The movie explores how the dynamic of an improv troupe changes after one of them finds success on a SNL-type show. It encapsulates the improv world really well and I think anyone who has ever tried to pursue a creative dream will be able to relate.

What I really loved about this movie was how flawed the characters were and how the comedy and tragedy of it all came through them in an honest way. While it's very funny, the movie's an incredibly heartbreaking look at failure. Definitely one of my favorite movies this year and I suggest anyone who's a looking for a solid dramedy to check this one out!
