While the first Guardians was super fun, lighthearted, and breezy, Guardiants Vol. 2 is emotionally complex, driven by character development, and better than its predecessor. The sequel wisely ignores the overarching Marvel universe and features what might be he best Marvel movie villain to date (second only to Doc Ock). In additional, Michael Rooker is a tour de force, Baby Groot is almost too adorable, and the film requires a viewing in IMAX 3D thanks to its incredible CG visuals and colorful atmosphere.

Unfortunately, the weakest component of Guardians 2 are the seemingly endless number of jokes. Some jokes are blatant fan service while others lean too heavily on character tropes. Worst of all, a few of the jokes undermine the severity of important scenes and crucial reveals. The first half of the film has some pacing issues as well.

Overall, Guardians is a huge success with some minor flaws. Oh and bring a tissue with you into the theater for the end.

I love the first Guardians of the Galaxy, so going into the second one was highly overwhelming and I gotta say that I was a little bit dissapointed, but i still thoroughly enoyed the film.

Just to get the negatives out of the way, the structure of this film is all over the place. For me, this movie doesn´t even have a plot until maybe the 45 minute mark. I feel like those first 45 minutes were used just to capitalize on what made the first one so great: it didn´t take itself too seriously. It was literally the guardians going to different places, meeting different people and making jokes.

The gold people were very annoying and I still can´t wrap my head around why they were in the story in the first place.

The pacing was incosistent as well.

That being said, the last act of the movie was great, the action, the comedy moments, the character moments, they all mashed together very nicely.

I loved how this was character driven (as albinopenguin said) each character was fleshed out and none of it felt forced.

I like the villain.

Yeah overall, the first half has some very annoying and basic strucure issues that really buged me, while the second half is great, action-packed fun with nice character moments.

Overall, I would give this a 68%
