Just in case you're on a fence to watch this: A very nice surprise - Wow! I was a big fan of A Quiet Place but this seemed to have such a bigger impact. My wife and I were riveted from the very start and it never let up. Some big names with great performances.

I had been reading about the numerous plot holes in this.  But I just read the script and it seemed ok. Hmmm

I wanted to LOVE it but ended up just liking it ok. For me, it felt like a copy of A Quiet Place, except with some GIANT stars. I had to research after and found out the book for BirdBox WAS out before A Quiet Place... so they didn't rip on it, but wow... I remember how excited I was watching a movie where they could not talk. I was surprised that they this movie broke the 'norm' and I love this.

Birdbox... Things I didn't like.. the hokey monster my husband called a Leaf Monster. The parakeets were cool, but they would never survive that bout where they were under water for however long in the rapids. And when the guy showed up that wanted to make them look at the monster...Also, I did not like her relationship with the children. I get that she didn't want kids.. so she calls them girl/boy but after a while I'd have liked to see her bond with them and show a bit of character arc by her naming them or something. There were strong relationships in Quiet Place although there was the conflict with the strained father/kid, but they overcame that.  I dunno.. this BirdBox will probably take awards, maybe even away from Quiet Place, but I liked Quiet Place better.

A Quiet Place - noise
BirdBox - sight

Come on, people, get writing on something that attacks the sense of smell, these kind of scripts are in. Or, you touch something - you go crazy, better yet, you think of something and it sets you off, ballistic.

I watched the movie, it wasn't good, but it wasn't as bad as some people made it out to be. The ending was very predictable though. Not necessarily a bad thing.

We can pick apart the logic of The Bird Box and A Quiet Place but in an environment of oversaturation of superhero movies both of these movies were a nice change. I saw AQP at the movies and thoroughly enjoyed it. BB was entertaining - Malkovich elevates anything he's in and Sandra Bullock also has enough star power and gravitas to likewise  move this beyond midday-movie fare. Best to enjoy the pure fantasy of both of them imho

Btw, Josh Malerman wrote the novel, The Bird Box well before AQP was conceived.  The screenplay for BB took some liberties and detours away from the novel - improvements that made the opening far more filmic and suspenseful for an audience yet still held true to Malerman's basic story.

If there was more content like this on Netflix I'd be a happy chappy.

P.S. Demento:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1439572/
A chef and a scientist fall in love as an epidemic begins to rob people of their sensory perceptions.
Ewan McGregor, Eva Green.

Not a bad little movie...

It was only Malkovich that kept me in till the halfway point. I don't watch superhero films or anything overtly Hollywood so I've seen quite a few of these types of films already and have just had enough of them. You've seen one, you've seen 'em all. I get bored very easily. My gf was riveted to the screen though and seemed thoroughly satisfied (ahem) at the end.

I'd like to see more content like it, but only in terms of it being original-ish. Just blatantly rehashing isn't. Perhaps it's time for a spoof. If you get an erection, you die!

The Ritual,  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5638642/ Calibre, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6218358/  - these are the gems showing on Netflix that keep me going. All too often though there's prolific content but not much I want to watch. Rather read a good book.

P.S. Dustin - really ramping it up from just going blind then, eh?

Just finished it.  Would not have paid money at the theater for it.  Fairly gruesome in spots, so if you haven't seen it, be prepared for that.

A shame that "Die Hard" is already taken as a title.

This is a quality post haha.

Watched this last night, and it was OK. Biggest shock in the film came too early, however, with the reveal that Bullock and Paulson were not lovers.

The 5 year gap is very hard to swallow - a year would’ve  been enough. The script I read must’ve been changed in parts to what was actually filmed  as I’ve learned from talking to people who watched it.  Still really enjoyed the script. It flowed and moved fast with lots of white space

It was like a zombie apocolyptic movie with some unseen force replacing the zombies.

I would have like to have seen more explanation on what that force is.

If I ever got an erection again, I would probably die! I haven't had wood since I camped out at Marilyn Monroe's grave and felt that her ghost "touched me".  And, man, oh man...that was wood...all 4 inches of it.

The movie was fine. Wished they had pushed Bullock's character into full on bitch mode.

That would have made her scenes with Malkovich that much more entertaining.

The biggest scare of all was that I kept flashing back to "The Happening"

Lol Jeff is the monster in Bird Box. If people see him they’ll be forced to remove orphans and wrong slugs from their scripts😬😂

Some quacked out conspiracy theorists… such as myself, lol, are suggesting the inevitable rollout of 5G cellular networks. A quick internet mining of ‘Ultrasound Pain Field Generators’ available for commercial use will give you a basic understanding of the dangers of this technology if used for nefarious purposes.

Internet blurb: “PAIN FIELD Generators can produce very uncomfortable to painful effects. These can range from debilitating and incapacitating, to enervating fear and threatening, to sickening nausea and nerve racking paranoia… all without physical contact. Effects can vary to an extent with number of units (or in this case “cell towers”) used, installation, distances, target sensitivity, and other variables.”

The actors in this scenario – Birdbox – describing their worst or most horrific fear without ever seeing what they’re afraid of… would appear, via deductive reasoning, that it is uncontrollable, debilitating fear and paranoia itself; imagine that times a thousand, and you will literally do anything to end it.

The concept of covering your eyes to avoid being infected is just as silly as the Cold War ‘Duck and Cover’ in the event of a nuclear holocaust scenario… that’s the only aspect of the movie I had a hard time with. However, the aspects of target sensitivity to ultrasonic sounds is plausible for certain individuals, and perhaps that’s why some had a different, or opposite effect than it’s intended purpose?

Conspiracy rant o’ the day…

This movie is so full of loopholes I gave up counting.

I like how the writer got halfway through and said" let's not blind everybody. I know let's pick the criminally insane, those guys don't have suicidal tendencies! and we'll just give them enough time for some exposition, fancy clothes and have them do donuts in the driveway"

I also liked "The Rocky" Who's gonna get the gun first scene? The bad guy has his hand basically on the trigger.. the boyfriend is staring at the barrel of the gun... Cue Sandra Bullock one sec later... BANG!  Guess who"s dead? Yeah bad guy

Then we have a level 5 rapids to which the boat flips over and the waterproof birds who are in the cardboard Birdbox( which is the worst title for this movie) don't drown or even worse the lid never comes off the box.

Sandra Bollock... I am not a Mom, I never wanted to be a Mom... I'm not even naming the children. Let's tie it up in a happy bow at the end... ok here's your names WTF

And there's so much more.... Quiet place was far superior

Spoiler Alert XXXXXXXX

This movie is shit!!!

After parting like an 80's rock star on Saturday, as I kicked my LA Rams to victory, I was feeling either under the weather or my age on Sunday, so me and the girlfriend decided to watch this.

I had eyeballed this thread and heard some stuff about the movie, but didn't really know much going in.  My girlfriend told me that there have been actual deaths due to kids blacking out windshields and driving, like they do here.

So, I really liked the opening.  It was powerful, scary, and well executed.  I was worried how this could be sustained and how they would "show" whatever it is that's out there.

1 big problem is that they couldn't or didn't do either.

I too, like Mark, saw serious plot holes and logic gaps that were upsetting...or maybe just really dumb.

The ending really makes about zero sense, if you think about it. First of all, this "group" of peeps at the school, were obviously there for quite a while.  Why, then, all of a sudden, did they start broadcasting?  More importantly, why is it a "safe zone" there?  Having  mostly blind peeps means nothing at all.

I really tried and wanted to like it.  While watching, I was OK with it, but thinking back, I can't say very many positives.  I liked how they went all out in terms of violence, and I thought most of the stellar cast gave good performances.
