I was actually eagerly awaiting the release of this new Rob Zombie film, based on some good early buzz, and the fact that it's the 3rd film in the House of 1,000 Corpses series.

Well, the limited release back in September sure was quiet, and I wasn't even aware it was released, let alone even finished.  Well, I had some spare time on Tuesday and found this available on both RedBox and Amazon Prime PPV.  I looked at reviews first and  saw they weren't too bad at all, and jumped in, hoping for another Devil's Rejects.

Well, let's be honest here - this ain't no Devil's Rejects.  What it is, is hard to say, but I can tell you this, it's another piece of shit from Rob and his buds, and most of the cast from Zombie's 2016 "31" are back hamming it up again.

This is a crappy flick almost every way you look at it.  The acting is terrible accros the board, but alot of that is due to the dialogue that Zombie wrote.  It's also due to the completely illogical flow of events and "story".  In terms of story, it's paper thin, at best, and ludicrous all the way through.

What really struck me, though, is the tone here.  It's so uneven, it's just crazy.  These are horrible people here, who have murdered and tortured hundreds of people, yet it seems like Zombie wants us to like them, fear for them, and cheer for them?  I guess there was a little of that in Devil's Rejects, but here, it's just so lame.

This is an ugly movie, with ugly peeps in ugly locales and it's basically senseless and insulting to the very people Zombie should be trying to satisfy - his fans...uh...his movie fans, that is, and after another turkey like this, there can't be too many of those fans left.

Pretty much agree with you on this one, Jeff. Was really hoping this would be Rob's comeback... Instead he delivered quite possibly his worst flick yet.

He really needs to stop writing his own scripts. And he REALLY needs to stop casting his wife. She is just awful.

If he can come up with an actual story and unique situations, I'm fine with him writing and directing, but he can't seem to.

And, if he could stop casting the exact same actors over and over, that would help.

As for Sheri Moon, I don't hate her or think she's a terrible actor, it's more what she's being given to "act".  The dialogue for her characters is just terrible.

Mixed feelings on Rob Zombie. He seems reasonably smart with unique sensibilities, and I've enjoyed his films just enough to keep me watching his new ones. But his lows are loooooooooooow, especially on the dialogue front. These particular characters have been the vessels for some of his cringiest material. I was on the fence about this one, but in light of this review, I'll make it easy on myself and take a hard pass. Not like Jeff/Zack are some Internet randos whose opinions I've never heard/seen tested before.

Seemed like more of a hangout comedy than a horror movie. Even taken that way, it was pretty bad. Had occasional moments of retro fun, I guess.

I saw Danny Trejo walking down the street in Vancouver the other day. That was a lot more exciting than this entire movie.

Sounds like all I need to know. Hopefully Rob Cummings will grow out of the horror genre and do something unexpected. Still like White Zombie.

Yeah, 1 thing I was going to add to my initial review was that, IMO, there was very, very little horror here, and what may have been meant as horror, came off as comedy in many ways.

Another big issue is the way he addressed the ending of The Devil's Rejects. It was just so lazy and uninspired. IMO it actually kind of sours the ending to that 2nd film.

Agreed!

And, the way that Otis and Baby got out of jail was just ridiculous.  Actually, thinking back, the entire movie was just ridiculous!  ARGH!!!!

The guy who played the warden was pathetic, and the wig he had on so pitiful!!

I will see this. I've seen all of Rob's movies and all of them are hot garbage. I expect this one will be no different. But I grew up with his music and he seems like a cool dude, so I watch his movies, even though they suck and he's not really a talented filmmaker, although he's a true cinephile. So, I will support him. Now I will go to youtube to listen to Living Dead Girl and Dragula.
