That - and....

I thought Hanks was horrible - cringe worthy - how in the fok did he land on that voice!?  And I like Hanks

Austin was great

Choppy choppy choppy - chaotic

Would it be that hard to give me at least one complete song scene?

Started to rewatch The Searcher instead - a great Elvis documentary.

Interesting.

I was looking forward to it at first but then saw the run-time and thought hmm, it can wait.

Dave, try Thirteen Lives - Ron Howard.
Could have been boring considering the repetitive nature of pulling twelve kids and their coach from a flooded cave but solid performances and... Well, I shouldn't say too much more. Go in with low expectations and you should enjoy it.

Agree with Libby about 13 Lives, excellent and very tense even though we know what happened.

I really liked Elvis though, agree Hanks performance was a little polarising, but I've seen it twice now and think Butler is fantastic and it manages to cover a lot of groud. If you find Lurmann an issue normally though then this won't be your thing (imho). I expect an Oscar nom or two in due course.

Saw 13 lives last night - Excellent1 Howard pulled off what he did with Apollo 13 - had me totally invested even though I knew the outcome. A+ from me

Dave, I'm so glad I stopped and didn't yammer on about Thirteen Lives too much.

A while ago I watched Ron Howard's Masterclass in Directing (thanks again, Pia) and was really impressed.
He also seems like an all round nice guy on top of his skills as a Director.

I should probably migrate all this Thirteen Lives stuff to another thread.
Maybe I'll just make a new one.

It was a goodie. Howard does all the little things so well - like that chart he used for the cave.

I've just watched the documentary about it, it's called The Rescue and is on Disney + - very good too!

Thanks, Ant!
I also found a link yesterday on how many hours Howard shot, and more... Great reading!
Seeing as this continues to be all NOT about Elvis I'll definitely make a new thread shortly.

Thirteen Lives review thread here:

https://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1660523892/s-5/highlight-/#num5

Elvis (the movie) fans continue reviewing here.

I thought about removing the Thirteen Lives chat but some overlaps.

In the minority maybe, but not alone. I rewatched Bohemian Rhapsody and then watched Elvis. Hated the Elvis as much as I loved Bohemian Rhapsody. Prey was also good.

Just finished watching this and not being a fan of Elvis, I didn't think I would like it. I didn't. I loved it. I already knew that Elvis formed the crossover from RnB but I suppose I'd never considered just how epic this was. Elvis was the original white rudebwoy.

I absolutely loved the score in this. Not just the Elvis tracks, but the mixing and blending of new with old was delicious. I have a far greater appreciation for who Elvis was and now also his music.

Well written, well directed, acted, produced, and with a score of a level I have never previously heard, this is one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Some great visuals, and Butler deserves the Oscar as he was as good as can be in the role.

The film itself felt like an experience rather than a cohesive piece of work.

This is probably what I'd say as well.

I think if you're going to make a biopic, it needs to offer something perspective-wise that I couldn't get from reading the wikipedia page. Hell, even Elvis's page has more context and detail around complex parts of Elvis's life, like that fact that Priscilla was a child when he groomed her, and other controversial things etc. This felt like someone skimmed a one-page biography and then joined ten music videos together. Austin Butler is pretty.
