How many challenges and projects are happening on here at the moment and in the next few weeks? It'd be nice to have them all listed on one thread so people can get up to date.

True, but people also need time to work on their own projects. And, if there are several of these going on at once, each one will only get a handul of entries; they will all suffer from lack of participation.
No one is forced to enter anything, and if they choose to do so it is surely their business.
In any case, they might write something for a OWC or whatever that they can develop beyond the confines of the specific challenge.
Although I did not in the event enter it, my primary reason for joining SS was because I thought I might write an entry for the August OWC. It was thinking about that which I believe began me writing again, even though I did not in the end produce a challenege specific project.
The point I'm trying to make is that people cannot enter all of these competitions and, if they are split up among said competitions, then the number of entries in each will suffer.
Also, part of the fun of the original OWC is that you may end up writing something you may not normally write. If you don't like the genre and theme of the OWC, you may say, "I'll enter the other one." If a director/producer/filmmaker came up to you and asked you to write a comedy that takes place in a yo-yo factory, would you turn him down and wait for the next filmmaker to ask you to write something?
I don't see a problem with providing people a choice of what to be involved in.
As a general rule we discourage people from scheduling anything else during an OWC so I don't think there will ever be a dearth of people entering the OWCs. But I don't see any reason to make the OWC the only show in town either.
The more choices and the more events on the site, the more people it supports. Allowing the site to grow is not a bad thing.

I agree. Some people might be inclined towards one thing and not another. Having a variety of options is a good thing.

Again, if a director came up to you and wanted you to write a script based on his parameters, would you try writing it? Or would you wait for a different director to ask you for a script that's more to your liking?
It's not as much a challenge if you have a choice.

The only choice is to write or not to write that is the question choice.
That is the first.
The second is
Caring about what you're writing and caring about the audience that you're writing for.

People are still going to chose whether or not to do an entry in the OWC because of the genre and theme - even if 10 things are going on.
This hypothetical director thing is just that, hypothetical. What do you want to do - force people to participate?
The OWC time is left clear of other events giving everyone the opportunity to say yes to participating if they want to. Nothing has changed.
It's kind of silly to think it should be the only activity on the site just because someone might want to do something else at a later time. Get real.
