I've learned the writers of some of the scripts and it has been such a joy because after the fact, I think: "Yes, it fits!!! Perfect!!!" It was so much fun and interesting to feel the person and thoughts behind the words,
The reads continue for me and I've just read a script that I feel proud to have read so things will be bright tomorrow for sure!
You are incorrect, James, my friend. A few of us have already outed ourselves, and 1 of your guesses is WRONG!!!!!.
I'm going to guess that Phil wrote either Cumbara or Old Ninety-nine Face.
Am I to understand one of my guesses has already outed themselves? Which one? I'm pretty dead set on one of them. Also, strangely enough, I was about to guess you wrote Old Ninety-Nine Face. Probably another long shot, probably wrong, but there were a few traces of what seems like you MO.
Oh well. I haven't been able to guess too many of these since 30+ scripts started rolling in per OWC. Kinda miss the old days...
Seems Sandra's already outed herself so no guessing there. I was able to guess right though. Nevertheless...
A Measure of Silence - Sean Cumbara - Phil (probably a long shot but I've got a feeling about this one) Ghost in the Graveyard - Jordan
No other particular styles stand out to me at this point. I'll have to read a few more...
Whoever wrote Cumbara: Read my short but "feel it" "got it" post on your script.
I've been slow on catching up on my reads because of traveling and a lot of hell, but when I got to this one, I knew this one was my favorite of the first sixteen I had read.
I'm really interested to see who wrote this. I could see this written by Phil, but also by Michel. And there are others also, that I could attribute this to. It's been a very interesting OWC. Much better than a few years ago.
You guys, a few have outed themsleves on their own thead, so it's easy to figure those out.
james, yuo are INCORRECT again, on your guess about "me".
I guess I'm wrong on my 2 Phil guesses...hmmm...
We know which one Cornie, and myself wrote, as well as MBC and Gore Gore, who all admitted today. Big Lew, Sandra, and Screan Rider came clean awhile back. I know a few others as well...
read the threads and you'll be more in the know...Pia is always in the know.
I love words and the fact that when the page is blank...there's nothing there until words are formulated in my brain. Those thoughts...rushing through my viens and out my finger tips, find "life" on the page.
When people and places come to life...that to me is exciting.
MBCgirl =) My finger nails should look nice while I type - Red works!

Found it! So you're the one behind all the pot smoking and wine guzzling family fun. Well, it was fun for me. One of my favorites, actually. It appears two of my guesses are dead wrong. Don't think I wanna rifle through all these other threads just so I can guess wrong on the ones where the writers didn't out themselves. I myself am gonna stay in the dark for now. I will say my script stayed on the more childish side of things, against my better instincts.
Hmmm, I will go back and make a guess for you, James. I have a few ideas now. Have to finsih watching Dancing with the Stars - the #1 comedy show on TV!!!!! What a frickin' HOOT!!!!
OK, James, I'll guess either Hayride or Big Bad Bug for you.
I'm not a very good guesser though.
Pia, what's with the outburst there? Are you tilting a few back? Yes, you are a very good and reqested reader and reviewer! How's the rewrite coming along?

Outburst? No, I'm not tilting anything back. I just meant I've read a few of them prior to them being posted. Some of them without a title so I'm confused too about who wrote what.
I'm working hard on the Roach script. Trying to get it finished by the weekend.
Ah, here it is. I was going to reveal all this morning if this thread had not appeared!
As has been noted, quite a few of the writers have now outed themselves - the only one that I guessed really was Alffy, who I believe wrote "The Boy Who Cried". When I found out who wrote "Untitled", you could have knocked me down with a feather - I was firmly convinced he'd written another one altogether! I really am not good at guessing!
Part of the fun of this, using a false identity, is having people claim you wrote something other than your actual entry, or seeing who they thought wrote yours.
I made a conscious effort to write mine a bit differently than the other shorts I've posted here - but did drop in a clue, for those who wished to find it. Actually I dropped in two, one a mcguffin - but I realised last night that this was incorrect and instead of leading the reader to the wrong writer, it was in fact just meaningless!
Well, I wrote Festivous of Fear in one take, no corrections, just to see if I could complete a project, as I have been on one major creative dry spell. While I'll be the first to admit it's no literary masterpiece, I feel it stands up as complete thought. Also, it just felt plain good to actually write THE END.
Quoted from Baltis.
If they all could've been like this, maybe I wouldn't have wasted so much of my time reading "Festivus of Fear" "Mayor Vamp" and all the other cat squirt scripts.
Is this the list of writers who outed themselves so far?
Sandra -- Bloomb Thicket's Opera Steven8 -- Festivous of Fear Dreamscale -- Ghost in the Graveyard GoreGore84 -- Mayor Vamp MBC Girl -- Scaregrounds Alffy -- The Boy Who Cried Jimmy Dean -- The Fixer M. Cornetto -- Untitled Screenrider -- Welcome to Hale
I am quite keen to post some responses to the reads I got, so may step from out of the shadows later today - in which case, if anyone wants to take a stab at guessing which one it was, now may be your last chance!
Stevie said there were subtle Beatles references in his script - in which case, they must have been very subtle, as I didn't notice any in any of the scripts except for one, which he said he didn't write (the one with killer roos). Unless he was lying, of course!
As I mention in my read on that, that kind of thing leaves me cold! Dancing ducks is one thing, talking worms quite another! Also I thought the little girl killing the bird to be horrible. I dislike animal cruelty in films. Don't mind people killing each other, but I draw the line at them killing animals!
I didn't write the one with the talking pumpkin either!

I know which one Stevie wrote! I don't think I recall any Beatles refs though...
I think both you, Jeff, and Stevie had some issues with it, didn't you?
Just to say, as I do on the thread, that the story was written specifically for the OWC - the suggestions that it was a pre-written story with Halloween refs tacked on is incorrect.
Good, bad or indifferent it may have been - but it was written exclusively for the OWC - my desire was to write something for the challenge, not just enter something! I would hope that few, if any, of the other entries were pre-written as this was not the point of the test.
Yes, Niles, I did have issues with it, mainly because it didn't try to meet the challenge IMO. It was very, very dark and mature, and in no way was suitable for kids, nor would kids be interested in it, because it didn't deal with anything kiddish (how's that for a word?).
We've gone back and forth about the Festival thing, but I just don't think a few of you understand my point, even. A Festival is defintely an event. It has nothing to do with celebrating a Holiday or theme. It is something people go to.

You've more than made that point in quite a few threads now. People understand it, they just don't agree with it.
Festival (disambiguation) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A festival is a celebratory event, usually centered on a theme. A festival is an event, usually and ordinarily staged by a local community, which centers on some unique aspect of that community.
I never understand why in these contests there is often such discord over little things like this, when by definition, they are so simple.
Whatever we write - I would hope it is our goal to utilize the guidelines of the challenge to the best of our ability. Otherwise...what is the point of a challenge or even entering it in the first place.
I know...this, coming from someone who has a difficult time writing horror as it relates to family

Got no real guesses, except that this has been fun with some good entries, from ghosts, aliens, murderous kangaroos and a not quite enough zombies...(I may have missed some zombicidal action; if I did, please let me know.)
Not much to say about my little project here, other than Dream was entirely correct. I did rush, I did entirely run too long and as a result over-edited. However, at 14 pages with the "Tightest Possible" setting on Final Draft, had to slice and dice like John Belushi in the Samurai Delicatessen...

Wolf, are you refering to me, with "Dream"? Hmmm...I'm not sure which script you're referring to.
One thing I will throw out here, relating to my script as well as others, based on the page constraint, and the fact that I too was running way long, I took out the "FADE IN" and "FADE OUT" to save myself at least 4 lines. Damn...I needed 'em! In a challenge like this, it's one thing I'd never hold against a script, and would recommend not including them, if space is an issue.

Wolf! C'mon, out yourslef! Quit holding back!!!!!
Yeah, I had to do that too, to fit in 12 pages. No 'The End' either!

99 face was my personal favorite this time around...Good story, big on creep but not overtly violent, lots of great detail without being overdone. Also liked the Cemetery, mainly because Zachary was so cool and locking the big kids behind the big iron gates is something I would have done when I was kid.

Yeah, good job, James. Your script was very popular.
Ok, I wrote Creepville. Beatle refs were the names Lucy and Michelle.
Also a line of dialogue, 'The day breaks, your mind aches', is the opening line of 'For No One' from 'Revolver', my all time favorite album. That song is our very own Michel's favorite song too. Speaking of which, has anyone heard from him lately?
Good job, James! One of my favorite ones, actually! Good, solid effort!
See? Now there's a script of yours that I definitely like!
Haha! I was thinking the same thing. Glad you liked this one. I tried to keep things simple this time around. Doesn't get much simpler than a monster in the closet. I think that helped a lot.
Always loved that little jingle, Phil, ever since I first saw H3 at the theater. Still, to this day, I have that tune running through my head this time of the year.

Three more days 'til Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Three more days 'til Halloween! Silver Shamrock!!
Nah wait!!! There's something I'm not seeing!!! This is like those "seeing eye pictures"! I can see into those, but missed this one! Fess up! What do you see that I don't?"

No, I don't. But to be honest, my husband instigated the activity of the usation of a particular herb which we had partaked of as very young people of teenage disposition and I'm seeing things "normally" now.
Perhaps tomorrow, I will thus again see "weird" and be able to "see it".
Wow, I can make your girl "spin both ways" and I can't see this.
Finally, Sandra has adnitted to partaking if the evil herb!
Don't you feel better now, Sadra for coming clean?
Yes Jeff, but also the truth is that WHEN: You had THOUGHT I was writing UNDER THE INFLUENCE, I HONESTLY WASN'T!!!
David and I only started experimenting again about two weeks ago.
Miss Bronikus, and up to about two weeks ago, I haven't smoked anything. I was completely sober upon the writing of Miss Bronikus and including Bloomb Thicket's Opera.
The important thing to me is honesty and in the revealing of the "negative aspects" that we all hold.
Yes, I admit to partaking in the herb. And honestly:
I don't feel that it's "evil". I don't feel that it's evil at all.
I don't think it's evil either, my love...I was mere;y messing around.
So...what about the shrooms?
Might as well come completely clean...
The truth is: I've never had any magic mushrooms. I've eaten Morel mushrooms, but they are just "mushrooms that taste really good". They don't have any special properties to make one high.
I drink Vodka and sometimes red Merlot wine (dry). Besides that, like I said, David and I have experimented with what we did as kids. But beyond that: I have nothing to hide: Except that I have a penchant for sexual progress. As such, I do push the edge. And I admit: That I love Men and Women and I do push the edge.
Within that construct: I feel that "The Edge" must be pushed or there would be no meaning after all.
Agreed...I love some men, but I love all women, and when it comes to pushing the envelope, I prefer to include as many women as possible inside that envelope. I'd rather just tell the men about the situation.

HaHa! Sandra, you ROCK!!! Enjoy your BUZZ!!!!!!
I admit that I'm very bad. But, I demand greatness from myself and others. I must rise from my depravity.
Depravity has its reason.
And...
I love all of the souls that I've met in my travels and some are certainly as depraved as I.
'cause you're allergic to peanuts and the gol darn stores are loaded to the hilt with Reeses at this time of year? Blasted Halloween! Stick to the frozen section! Stay on the outside parameters of the store. That's where the healthiest stuff is. Avoid the inner isles at all cost. Put the lime in the coconut and call me in the morning.
And I'll take "credit" for A Goode Fall (hey, nothing like a bad pun to go with a banker script...). Thanks to all for the very constructive feedback. I promise a better read next time 'round.
Hey! I see al the writers have been revealed now. I wasn't aware of this...when did it happen? We're sitting here asking people to identify their works, and it's already posted.
Congrats to Cam for his Old Ninety-nine Face! It was a well written script. One of my top 2 faves!
Phil wrote Swine Lou...interesting...hmmm...
And the killer roos was written by Matt...another interesting one.
I'm getting scared to post anything here now, as I see how one's words can be so easily manipulated.
That's OK, Jeff, I'm exposing myself, (oo that sounds ...) but I feel that it's one of those things a person has to do. I'm definitely "Both Sides Now" and it is indeed, a predicament. A human one.
I will love you guys no matter what a mess you are because I'm the same mess too and I can relate. No coincidences, though so it may seem.
Matt did the roo one, hey? He was the only other Aussie we didn't consider.
Gary did a great job with Cumbara! i think all the entries were worthwhile! i still think this challenge was tougher than the music one.
Good stuff all!!
ps - i'm playing Evony while posting! How good can it get?
Gary DID do an excellent job with Cumbara! And because I was in Buffalo and was slow to catch up with the reads, when I read it, I had to send Don a note that after reading it, I thought it took precedence over my other "previous choices".
The amazing thing is that I GET TO WORK WITH HIM!!! and THAT is a blessing!!!
