BlueCat Short Screenplay Competition Call For Entries!

Grand prize: $2000
Two Finalists: $500 each

Have you got a great idea for a screenplay that just doesn’t happen to be feature length? Maybe you’ve already written a short screenplay – between five and forty pages long – but you’re not sure what to do with it. Maybe you’re looking to get some perspective on your short before you try to produce it, and maybe pick up a little extra cash for the budget while you’re at it.
If so, then submit your screenplay to BlueCat Short Screenplay Competition! Think of it as a smaller version of the annual Feature BlueCat Screenplay Competition – shorter scripts and a shorter timeframe, but just as equally lucrative and beneficial to your development as a writer.

THE DETAILS
Entry fee is $20, or $35 if you want script analysis and feedback by a BlueCat reader.
Enter by April 15th and receive analysis by May 1st
All analysis will be sent by June 15th.
All eligible screenplays – original works between five and forty pages long – must be submitted before May 15th, 2012 at 12:00 AM PST.

SUBMIT YOUR SCREENPLAY:  http://www.bluecatscreenplay.com/short-screenplay-competition/

As a disclaimer, I’m not an attorney, so this isn’t legal advice, but...

It depends on the specifics of your contract. As long as you’re the sole owner of the script, you should be fine. An option gives the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an asset. An option, by definition, is not a sale.

If I was you (and I’m not, I’m much prettier ), I would check my option agreement, make sure there’s nothing to preclude this competition, then enter.

Anyone happen to know if Bluecat has (unstated) genre preferences?  Any particular type that tends to win?

Cheers,

My main problem(s) of using a phone to predominately surf the internet

1.  I tend to skim
2.  I tend to never run spell check

Thanks for the heads up...

"Deliver Me Death" (which Jeremy Garner, producer/director/FX guy re-named "Deliver Me Midnight") was suppose to be shot and filmed already, but he stopped contacting and returning contacts over a year ago.

I got paid for it, a slew of production shots and some raw video footage of the film -- but the lead actor quit out on him, they needed to regroup for funding and then it kind of fell apart from there.  He said they'd re-start filming in 2011 and never did.

Too bad because he was certainly capable, from what I received, to handle the mood and temperament of what I was going for.

Oh well... it comes and goes I've come to know.  But looking over the contract, the rights fell back into my favor -- so it's fair game to re-shop around.  I wasn't too sure of contest going though as this is the 1st year I've truly spent time weeding through all of them and really entering them.

Hell, to be honest, it's the 1st time I've had enough good material to do it with... I don't feel like I have "the one" script to end all scripts, but a few really good scripts that I don't mind spending a little more money on to see where they fall in line.

P.S. I'm much prettier with make-up.  You caught me on an off day~
