Hey, I just read both the original story and screenplay for the movie Brick.  Both I must say were very well done.

For those of you who haven't seen the film (It's not extremely well known), it's a film noir that is set in a modern day high school.

The script is very engaging and it's nice to see how the writer, Rian Johnson, adapted his novella into the movie screenplay.  The dialogue in it is very 1940's type patter mixed in with new slang that I absolutely loved.

An Example:
The Brain- "But I'll becha you got ever rat in town together and said 'show your hands' if any of them've actually seen the Pin, you'd get a crowd full of pockets."

Brendan - "You think the Pin's just a tale to take whatever heat?"

The Brain (shrugs) - "But what's first?"

Brendan - "A show of hands."

Not only is Brick a movie worth seeing, but I highly recommend reading the screenplay and/or story in order to understand it a little more.  I know both are available to download off of Rian Johnson's website.

I totally agree. I mean, I bought the film about two weeks ago and watched it three times since. I love the dialogue in it. Just read the script for it yesterday and must say it's written brilliantly.

Buy the film, watch it then read the script. Highly recommended.

I may be an idiot, but I'm no idiot.
