The trailer looks sweet. Anyway you could give me a copy of the script? I'd like to read it.

Yeah, could I have a copy, too? I've never read a disaster script before and I'm really interested on how they describe the action sequences with the weather and stuff.

Though, the message boards on IMDB for this movie are very "this side or that side." Half of the people believe that the world will end, and the other half believe it's a shift in human consciousness. It's actually really funny to watch the people argue.

And apparently the alignment of the planets (or earth and the sun or whatever) has already happened...http://www.geocities.com/astrologyages/maya2012.htm

So, could you PM me the script if you're allowed to? (I've received some scripts that haven't been filmed yet (or are in the process of being filmed) and the person who gave them to me told me not to tell anyone else...)

I was very disappointed with this, especially the ending, which wasn’t really surprising because the ending for “The Day After Tomorrow” was just as poor.
The script was as I expected, lots of brainless action which will look amazing on the big screen but a cheesy story with too many characters.

I also thought it was actual spaceships the rich were paying for, not a big boat. It turned out like Noah’s arc with all the animals in there with them. I wanted Jackson and co not to get through the gates, then have all the “spaceships” blow up, killing all the annoying rich characters that paid all the money for a seat. THAT would have been an ending.

The cast looks promising though. Danny Glover, John Cusack, Thandie Newton...pretty good. The special effects will be something special. Just why, oh why did the have to go with the happy ending AGAIN!

The Mayan calendar theories are quite interesting.  I've read a lot about it.  I don't believe it will happen, either, but if it does, at least we'll get out of this financial wreck the world is in.

I doubt I'll see this movie, as I don't think they could do a good job with it other than effects.

This script is next on my to-read list. I just have to finish The Ruins first - and I'm struggling a lot, what a dissaster of a script. 70 pages in and can't tell whether it has moved on to the second act yet.

Knowing Emmerich's previous work, I'm sure the script for 2012 will be a breeze to read through - entertaining and, well, not much else.

Btw, thanks, Pia, for hosting the scripts.

Just finished the script and I'm sorta fifty-fifty about it. I know the end of the world will look great on screen (and I'm really looking forward to seeing that) but storywise, the script is really thin.

First, we have seen all before. This is a very typical Emmerich story - it's almost a complete copy of Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow - it uses the same exact template as those two movies - yes, the White House is evacuated as usual and the "bad guy" is a government guy (like in ID4 and TDAT). Then it takes a little bit of everything we've scene in other disaster movies like Volcano, Impact and even a blown up version of the pyroclastic cloud in Dante's Peak.

Second, the intertwined family-reunion story is soooo predictable and overly sweet (yes, the same plot elements as in ID4 and TDAT).

Third, I agree with Pia that the ending is just too bright. I mean, it's all good.

Four, I was really surprised at how badly the script is written.

Five, why is the lead guy named after 50 Cent of all people?

All that being said, I'll still go watch this movie - but it'll be for the visuals and not much else.
