Alright, i said philip k. dick was awesome at sci-fi, but William Gibson has to be recognized too...
totally sweet stories, all of them.
Look up JOHNNY MNEMONIC for a sample.....though, it was a pretty bad movie and it had Keanu Reeves at his less than finest.....and.....it was a bad movie...

BUT  TRUST ME!!!
he rocks

If you like Gibson (Neuromancer, Burning Chrome, New Rose Hotel, etc), check out a cat named Walter John Williams.  His stuff is cool Cyberpunk with its own identity, rather than a rip of Gibson or Dick.

It's funny...Keanu made one of the worst Cyberpunk movies ever (Johnny Mnemonic), but followed it up with the best Cyberpunk movie EVER (The Matrix).

I have to respectfully disagree.

Neal Stephenson is THE MAN!!!  Check out his work!  They'd make awesome movies, too.  I hope to see them in theaters someday.

And some of Greg Egan's stuff would also translate well to film.
