before making a movie about vampires, zombies, witch's, werewolf's, ghost's and etc.  I recommend getting an informative book about them.  Amazon is great for finding any book.  I definetly recommend The Zombie Survival Guide, by max brooks for a zombie movie.  there is a bunch of literature on vampires, the book I got was called The Vampire Watcher's Handbook by constantine gregor, and it was good, taught me a bunch.

But in that fact wouldn't it make your monster film to be like many others if everyone used the same formulas? So which makes them all instead of being dumb they would all be the same

Since they do not exist in real life these books are just what people say they are, so why can't a writer with an imagination create there own special monster and call it a vampire?

Vampires are based on legends and these books are what the original legends are.  also books can kind of spark creativity, give you a general idea, and you can take it from their adding your own twists and turns.

I agree, I read the vampire book: encyclopedia of the undead just for fun last year, when I just wanted to read about vampires, and now that I'm encorporating them into a script, it helps alot, even if I've created a whole different lore than the norm.
