Normally, I stay clear of competitions in their first year, but this one may be the exception. The 2013 ScreamCraft Horror Screenplay Contest is a competition that deals strictly in the horror and thriller genres. Most competitions looks for that potential Oscar winner. The few horror script competitions that are out there (I'll post another one or two soon) are looking for good horror. A masked serial killer script actually stands a good chance of winning here if it's well-written. Let's see Nicholl do this. The website claims that the judges panel includes development executives at Lionsgate, Paramount and Sony. The reason why I'm considering this competition is because of the low entry fee: twenty dollars for early entries. I can't vouch for this competition but I'm likely to risk $20 on it. Phil |

Hmmm....is this an omen(no pun intended, lol) for me?
Very close to finishing my horror/western and should be able to revise it by that early deadline. |

Hard to beat $20. I just don't have any good horrors. I have some horrible scripts! But they probably don't give prizes for that. |

Thanks Phil and Pia.
I was thinking about Screamfest LA and Shriekfest too. Anybody tried them before? |

Shriekfest is supposedly the oldest screenplay competition out there, dedicated to sci-fi and horror. I won second place a few years back with The Burnout and was a finalist for Roly-Poly and A Druid's Guide to the Northeast. I recommend this competition wholeheartedly. The people behind it are very professional. They keep you up to date with everything and answer your questions in a timely fashion. I've never entered Screamfest, but it gets good reviews on Moviebytes. This is a good site to help decide whether a competition is worth entering (among other resources). Participants rate the competitions and give their opinions of it. Phil |

I agree with Phil about Shriekfest. I didn't win, but they were very professional and kept me up to date about my submission. I had a problem with my submission and they notified me about it. They even notified me when I didn't make it into the cut. lol. They're good people. Edit: Had several typos. Damn waking up early. |

This is actually a rarity. Unless you've made it to the finals, the only acknowledgement you get from most competitions is that they've received your payment. Phil |

I know Phil. I was shocked to get that email. lol. Not because I was cut, but because they let me know I was cut. lol. A weight off my shoulders.
Don't know if it was a one time thing though. I was probably lucky. But, I would submit a script to this festival. They're cool.

Uncanny... I'm polishing a thriller at this moment with Jeff that has exactly that. A masked serial killer... Mmmm... Jeff, you think Cosmic Justice would fit the bill? Shawn.....>< |

Thanks for the info, guys. I've never entered a competition before but I think I'll go for all three this year. Heard lots of good things about Shriekfest and Screamfest. |
