Any Walking Dead fans (or not) watch the pilot? If so, what did you think?
I'm a pretty big fan of The Walking Dead and I enjoyed this opening episode. It was a nice set up and I'm enjoying the new characters. People online are complaining it was too slow. I expected that though and it did a good job of showing LA just before the outbreak. Then it ended with a bang. I also see people complaining, that the walkers look cheap. I'd put that down to the fact they're not the full on decayed zombies from The Walking Dead. They're fresher and I'm sure in time, they'll become more like the walking corpses we've grown to love. I thought they looked fine.
Anyway, I enjoyed it as an opening of a spin off to a show I very much enjoy.
I'm a fan of the original series and this didn't disappoint. I'm fine with the slower pacing, that's what makes the series and characters work for me. Framing it partly from a junkie's perspective was a nice touch -- how can he believe his own eyes, let alone convince those around him of what he's seen...
Interested to see how they deal with the outbreak in full. I liked the original in that we largely got to skip the usual 'Huh? Why's everyone acting strange?' phase and instead throw Rick and Co. straight into the aftermath. I think the writers are savvy enough to deliver some originality with this though.
Mixed on the LA location choice -- seems obvious, of all the places they could have chosen for the backdrop... Not a huge issue I guess. Interested to see where they take it, I'll be watching regardless.

I noticed this on the web but didn't watch. Thanks for the heads up - will do that one of these days. It's hard for me to grasp the concept here though - weird spin of but let's see.
It's just going to show how the world transitioned from normal modern day slowly into the zombie apocalypse, whereas The Walking Dead threw us right into the deep end.
