I was curious of the various methods people go about promoting their work?

Aside from entering competitions, what are your methods and ideas?

I started off using freewebs.com (and then that changed to webs.com) because of the writers here back in the day.

I then created a blog using Google's blogger that automatically posts to twitter once the blog post is created.

I've started a second blog using WordPress and imported all my existing blog.  This also posts to twitter automatically along with hashtags.

Strange thing WordPress posts rank higher than Google's own blogger.

Recently I've started to write lots of short scripts for an actor who is creating an acting reel.  So the actor can show off his various skills.  Two films have been made so far.  And the rest are in the pipeline.

I tested this idea helping to create an actor's reel by posting on a Reddit forum for actors, and it appears people like this idea.  To help them create their actor's reel.  I think this is a great idea that's mutually beneficial.  It challenges you to come up with stories according to their specifications.  And if they like it, they will make it (I hope).

What I really want now is to get an agent/manager.  And with more credits to my writing C.V./resume, I hopefully one day will get there!

I'd love to hear your ideas.  And hopefully we'll help each other out in the process.

I wrote a few bunch of articles for SS on this sort of subject - you can find em here - https://anthonycawood.wordpress.com/category/articles/

But my current strategy is...

1) I have my own website - http://www.anthonycawood.co.uk and keep that up to date.
2) I have Twitter and Facebook accounts that tie into it and post on/from there too.
3) I post my short scripts on here, Inktip and the like.
4) I look for writing opportunities - which I also share on here - and try and build relationships with directors and producers I engage with.
5) I make sure my IMDB page is as comprehensive as possible in case anybody goes looking.

I like the idea of helping actors with showreels, I guess my only concern would be how much does it expose the quality of the writing as opposed to the acting... but it's definitely worth experimenting with.

Agents and Managers are easy... sell something significant to Hollywood or win Page/Nicoll and they'll be all over you

I follow you on WordPress.  Nice site too.

See IMDb, is it possible to combine two people?  I've got credits across to individuals.  Both me.

I don't use InkTip.  I thought there was a cost involved?

On Inktip, shorts are free while features you will need to pay.

I stopped using them due to an issue I had with them. Not sure if this affected anyone, but they took me off their site since they claimed I never received their newsletters which I guess is a requisite for them to have your short on their site. They claimed that it was going to spam. So I never went back. I’ll stay here.

Jayrex - thanks for following, glad you like it...

Not sure re combining records but i'd ask them, I've always found them helpful (though a bit slow).

As Gabe said, no cost to list shorts... they just take the logline and then people contact you to read the scripts. Most of my scripts sell from here, but Inktip is my second most successful source.

Not had same issue as you Gabe, but if you know it's going to spam then you can change your spam filters to allow it - if you want to.

I have my own website that I try to keep up to date mark-renshaw.com. I’ve got a few queries and one option that way, so well worth it as the optioned script starts filming next month.

I’ve listed on Inktip on the free for shorts option. I did win a paid for slot earlier this year which got me nothing, not a single inquiry. Plenty of producers read my logline but no further. When I emailed them they admitted their site doesn’t get any producers for TV pilots, yet they gladly accept them! I’m glad I didn’t pay for that.

I keep an eye on Script Revolution, Stage 32, ISA, Shooting People and Mandy Crew. I’ve got a few sniffs and options from Shooting People but that’s a yearly subscription site. I’ve had some success with Mandy Crew also, and I use the free service for that, there is a premium paying version but I’ve never tried it.

I have took the plunge and got IMDB Pro for a year just to see if it helps. I’ve had it about two months now and I haven’t found any agent or producer’s email addresses that I’ve looked for. They all just list the general info one you can get from the website.

I’d highly recommend going to the London Screenwriters Festival. http://www.londonscreenwritersfestival.com. Next one is April 2020. It’s the best networking, workshop and pitching gig there is in the UK.

There’s also some great writer’s groups on Facebook. I highly recommend Bang2writers.

Thanks for the link Mark!  I'll definitely go!

If you can remember, could you let us know how your IMDB Pro experience after twelve months has fared?

For those of us with websites or blogs.

If you can use HMTL enhancements or blocks.

I recommend this site: https://getsitecontrol.com/

You can see four four of the widgets on my blogger: https://jayrex007.blogspot.com/

I personally think it adds a touch of professionalism.

I have my own website that I promote with a Twitter profile, and with my own Facebook page. I post scripts on here, Script Revolution and Reddit. I'm also on Stage 32, although I don't frequent it much. I've gotten the best offers here on Simply Scripts, and some interesting conversations have emerged on Reddit. But Script Revolution and my website have been helpful in getting people to find my stuff too, if anything to at least pay me compliments!

More of my scripts on the link, please let me know if you'd like to read one of them! https://www.scriptrevolution.com/profiles/oscar-moreno
