Is there somewhere I can send a complaint to? These Oscar nominated scripts aren’t formatted correctly.

Quoted Text
Toller’s cell phone DINGS. He takes out his phone, checks the
messages.
There is a message from Michael: “Meet me at the Westbrook
Park Trail. East entrance. The red diamond trail. Come
alone.”

Two orphans in a row!

Quoted Text
MARY
(she sits)
I’m worried about him.
(he waits)
He’s involved with the Green planet
movement.

(Toller nods)
He was in jail in Canada. He got
out a couple of weeks ago. He just
sits at home. He doesn’t go out. I
got him to fill out a temp form for
Home Depot, so that’s good.

Three parentheticals in one block of dialogue! And some of them are the other person’s actions!

And bolded text!

Quoted Text
EXT KITCHEN DAY

No dashes in a scene heading!

Quoted Text
A man in a military uniform with one arm. Inside the
carriage,(think overloaded modern taxi) seven or eight people
are crammed in. ABIGAIL, an open, friendly innocent woman is
crushed to the side. She clutches a dirty purse and a letter
in her hands. Two kids, snot streaming from their noses,
cough TB into the air. The military man smiles at her. She
smiles back empathetically, then notices his other arm
jiggling. She looks down. He has his hand inside his pants
and is jerking off.

More than 4 lines of action!

Disgraceful!

I did get a kick about all the 'rule' breaking in the excerpts...especially the orphans

I agree, the list could be much better. I have only seen 'First Reformed' which I loved, and 'The Ballad of Buster Scruggs' which I thought was extremely disappointing, especially with it being by two of my favourite filmmakers.

I really want to see 'The Favourite', 'Roma', 'BlacKkKlansman', and 'If Beale Street Could Talk'. While the rest I have little-to-no interest in seeing.

Some screenplays I would of liked to see nominated are for the films: 'Sorry to Bother You', 'Game Night', 'Come Sunday', 'Isle of Dogs', 'Blockers', and 'A Futile and Stupid Gesture'.

First Reformed is the only one I'm truly excited to see on the list. My favorite film of last year, and a damn fine script. It's cool to see The Favourite on there as well, but that feels kinda predictable in the end. After that, the list drops way off. I enjoyed The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, BlacKKKlansman, and (to a lesser extent) Vice but mostly due to low expectations and a generally lesser quality of films across 2018 in comparison. The others I haven't seen and don't have much interest in doing so (except maybe Roma, I guess).

'Black Panther' up for best picture. The Oscars have officially lost all credibility. Are they seriously that desperate for ratings? I won't be watching the broadcast, only because I find it gets more and more boring year after year. Hopefully this year's will be at least somewhat entertaining. My favourite part of the Oscars were their movie parody skits, they should bring those back. Also, they should give the winners enough time to say their entire thank you speech. Did they have to spend an entire segment where celebrities grace some of us lowly peasants with their presence, not once, but two years in a row? They want people to worship them, when truthfully most people don't hold actors and filmmakers in such high regard, they just go to the movies because it's an effective escape from reality.

The biggest disgrace is that the short "Detainment" got a nomination.

That film should never have been made without the permission of the real life victims parents IMHO. Didn't even have the decency to let them know he was filming it.

Two steps to writing a good screenplay:
1) Write a bad one
2) Fix it
