From the beginning of the shooting script, THE WIFE

I have the following questions:

EXT. CASTLEMAN HOME -- DAWN 1A

Birds are starting to chirp as dawn breaks on the Castleman home: a charming old Connecticut farmhouse, an appropriate residence for a famous novelist.
We hear a PHONE start to ring inside.

2 INT. CASTLEMAN BEDROOM AND HOUSE -- EARLY MORNING 2

Joe and Joan are fast asleep, each sprawled on their separate sides of the bed. Dawn is just breaking. We hear birds start to chirp outside. The phone rings.

***

Is there a reason for the repetition of

Birds starting to chirp as dawn breaks on the Castleman home

in the Ext shot

And

Dawn is just breaking. We hear birds start to chirp outside.

in the Int. shot

***

Is it because if there is a need to stage separate shoots, due to weather or whatnot; they need the repetition down on paper if time winds up getting chopped up?

Also,

The first page contains huge blocks of text normally referred to as "unfilmables" and ordinarilly frowned upon.

However, to me, it's acceptable in this case because it's giving the actor necessary information right at the get-go.

Nevertheless:

I suspect that anyone trying to 'break in" and actually get read by anyone who's anybody even if the anybody is A. Anonymous Reader Person, they would take a look at the block of black and, if they're in a bad mood, maybe fling it out the window after first mangling and ripping and trying to set it on fire with their last match. What a waste of a match. And a good script. And perfectly good scrap paper.

The "know the rules before you break them" proverb is good advice, but even still, the obvious disparity is irksome.

And why...

Did Mel Gibson keep getting turned down with the making of The Passion of Christ?

What did they say? It's too controversial? How many good lawyers could argue that Hollywood is Queen of Controversial.

Anyways, let me end on a positive note. A movie that I'm unable to find a script for:

Blind Spotting

Really enjoyed it despite its content.

Sandra
