Just to give you an idea of how we'll approach things.

Tonight and Tomorrow we'll finish discussing the Timeline and get that boxed off. Most of the events that will inform the episodes/storylines are already there. We just need a few more, particularly at the back end of the story.

It might be a case of just continuing story threads that are already there.

On Monday and Tuesday we'll discuss Characters and Story. I will start a separate thread for that.

There has been a bit of a debate about whether the show should be a small, contained story such as the Road, Bird Box etc or whether it should be a series of separate stories in a Shared Universe like World War Z. Or indeed, a combination of both.

We'll make a decision on that on Monday when everyone has had their say.

Story discussions will involve not only plot events/what happens, but also a discussion about ways we can present information to the audience, be it scenes acted out, or things like Police Statements being read out, or a character recording a journal.

Try listening to some of the more popular Narrative Podcasts to steal ideas.

By Wednesday we should have an agreed upon Timeline of events, a list of cast members/characters that people can use for the main story-line (if that's the route we're going) and rough idea of what's going to happen in each episode.

At that point we can get definite numbers for who is partaking and decide how they want to approach writing it. Whether they want to try their hand at writing an episode alone, or with partners.

Heretic mentioned that it might be a good idea to have a first episode as a template for the series.

I thought we could plan it out in relative detail at the end of next week so that everyone has a model to follow and a platform to jump off when they write their episodes.

Anyway, for now I'll lock the Discussion Board and just leave the Chronology Thread open so we can finish that off.

Been a lot of fun, so far, I think. Even though it's been a little chaotic, I feel a lot has already been achieved.

I'm late to the party. Just got back from camping a couple of days ago and catching up on stuff. Is it too late to join the fun? Or at least contribute to the world-building?

Rene, we're only just getting started... Just kicking ideas around at the moment. No official sign-ups of writers yet either, so your contribution is welcome, I'm sure. Have a squiz at the threads so far.

Like Libby says, we're all at the beginning of the process.

What I'm trying to do at the moment is get a list of events in chronological order, which are a (plausibly) realistic set of events to which the characters would react to... Things which will inform the events of the stories and conversations etc so we all have a solid basis / througline to our stories and know where they fit into the whole.

Thanks to everyone's hard work, we now have a near definitive TimeLine.

The story has naturally taken shape.

There is essentially a main through-line dealing with a small group in a local community, experiencing the Fog first hand and learning about the wider world through TV and News reports.

This group tries to protect the community but the community collapses when Migrants leave the nearby City, violently overrun it, and leave almost nothing behind.

Our small group travels to the nearby Hospital to treat the wounds of one/some of its members, where they learn from the Doctor that the Government has announced Martial Law, and effectively abandoned the country.

From there they make a dangerous trek to a Military protected community where they are growing hydroponic crops.

In one of two side stories, we learn of the actions of the COBRA Committee (the meeting of the Government's highest ranking politicians, security advisers, Military etc) through Recorded Minutes. They give the audience the real information that the characters are denied access to and we learn the true magnitude of the situation through them.

They organise attempts to dispel the fog, which fail. Leading to a decision to try to burn the atmosphere in some way in a desperate attempt to avert even greater numbers of deaths (and for their own benefit).

In another side story, we follow a member of the local community as he descends into a kind of 'Fog Madness'.

Hearing about the abandoned prisons he leaves the community to release them.

The three strands come together when the Prison group attack the Main Character's Community and are about to succeed, but the Government's drastic plan interjects when the atmosphere erupts into cataclysmic fire..leaving the story on a dramatic cliffhanger as we wonder how anyone could possibly survive what's about to happen....and setting up Season 2 nicely.

It's a very strong structure and full of drama.

Outside the scope of those three main lines, there's also the possibility of additional POV's and side-lines that fit in along the way (for instance the Rich people hiding in bunkers idea) but those are the three critical lines which the story must be built around.

The main challenge is the madman's story-line...that will be the thing that makes or breaks it. That will give it a unique tone and a feeling of eeriness, but it needs to feel plausible as well and as far away from cliche as humanly possible.

From here we'll move on to populating the world with the characters. I'll started a new thread for that purpose. I'll keep the Chronology thread open so we can continue to refine it, and see where we can add extra elements/POVs etc.

Thanks everyone. It's been a great discussion so far, and surprisingly productive in a very short time.
