Has anybody else heard of this news and what do you think?
In my opinion they should leave it as it is. Nobody can replace Cary Ewles and Peter Faulk. It also happens to be one of my favourite films of all time. Leave it alone!!

I heard about this obliquely on Twitter after seeing an outbreak of "Inconceivable!" memes.

I agree, leave this one alone, cheesy ROUS's and all.

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Additional scripts are listed here.

Yep, soon Hollywood will be rebooting The Wizard Of Oz, Gone With Wind and  It's A Wonderful Life. Perhaps a remake of Silence Of The Lambs, The Untouchables, The Godfather, as well?

If it ain't broke don't even attempt to fix it.
Classic stuff should be left well alone.

I was also thinking of The Goonies but there is one film that they must certainly not touch Back to the Future.

Definitely, all classics should be left well alone.

Yea, but why take a chance on an unknown movie from an unkown writer when studios can just reboot a concept they already know is popular - rinse and repeat.

I really wish they would stop remaking movies lol

Two steps to writing a good screenplay:
1) Write a bad one
2) Fix it

I wouldn't be surprised if they remade all of these except for The Godfather and Gone with the Wind. Godfather is the only one on the list that still seems genuinely untouchable by studio hands. Gone with the Wind, I think, is so old that there wouldn't be a viable demographic for it anymore, and the subject matter would probably be too "problematic" for today's political climate. So even Gone with the Wind, I don't think it's an issue of the studios being above remaking a time-honored classic or anything like that.

Everything else is on the chopping block. They even remade Ghostbusters, which is crazy if you stop to think about it. A lot of people were upset about it, but no one really seemed to think it was all that weird. I remember when they remade The Texas Chainsaw Massacre back in 2003. There were mixed feelings about the remake itself, but the prospect of that film getting remade was unheard of at the time, as it was a classic and did genuinely seem untouchable.

So it's Princess Bride now. Not one of my favorites, but I understand it's huge for many. I see it's getting remade and think "bummer" but with a shrug. It's sad. I don't get worked up about remakes quite the way I used to -- they've already remade everything I love, more or less, so now everyone else has to eat it -- but their saturation in the theatrical market has greatly affected my interest in movies in general.

Honestly. What is the point in this? The only positive thing about these remakes is it reminds me to watch the original. I recently enjoyed ROBOCOP after seeing the remake pop up on a streaming service.

I wonder if the remakes generally create a spike in sales/streams on the original.
