So, I have HBO now and recorded every movie I had any remote interest in, saw this was available, and decided to give it a shot.

This falls into The Conjuring universe, which I not a fan of, but the connections seem to be few and far between.


The story takes place in the early 70's in CA, but based on how the characters look and dress, almost no attention seems to have been paid to making it authentic.

This is a very, very simple story and plot.  Much of it is contained to our Protags house and yard.  It's so simple, it really makes very little sense and I'm shocked it made over $120 Million WW, on a $9 Million budget. I'm also shocked $9 Million went into it, as it sure didn't show to me.

How a simple child killing in 1800's Mexico shows up in early 70's CA is a real head scratcher for me.  It's just downright stupid, really.

The movie is slow...and dumb, with few scares and even fewer logical plot points.

I watched it all, but had to slap myself a few times to stay awake.  I honestly don't understand why this was greenlit in the first place, and I'm completely clueless as to how it made the money it did.

Agree with the review Jeff, 100%, woeful film.

But the character of La Llorona is a significant urban myth for many people going back decades, they've previously had Halloween mazes for it at Universal Horror Nights for example, so I think part of the audience was pre-built.

And of course many people pay no attention to reviews when it comes to this jump-scare rubbish.
