Since all notifications have gone out, AFF has given the green light to announce that my short script, Last Thursday is a semifinalist! I was told that I would find out if it advances to finals around the first week of October. I'm actually happy with where I landed, even if I don't advance because I never expected to get this far in the first place.
They had over 13000 submissions this year, although I have no idea how many shorts. I'm guessing about 1/3 of that. So to make the top 12 of 3-5k is pretty amazing.
This is my first script to make it to AFF, although I had a film (that I also wrote) that played there in 2015.
Hmmm. I hadn't received any sort of notification, not even a "sorry, you didn't make it" notice. But upon searching my e-mail, it appears I forgot to enter the contest this year hahaha. Oh well.
Meh, I don't do screenwriting comps, I don't have the money for them. As for the film competition, my film didn't make it -- first year w/ a new fest director and my movie's running time (2 and a half hours) probably didn't do us any favors. But the movie already got picked up for distro and should be available on Netflix, Prime, etc early next year, most likely January. Would've been nice getting in, but with the long running time and the fact that it's all virtual, probably a bad year for film fests anyway in regards to networking/screenings/etc.
Anyway, good to hear, Kevin! Congrats! God damn, man, 13,000 entries??? Pretty fucking sweet, man, but not a surprise, I really dug the script.

Sweet - make sure to notify us when it's available. Which one was it?

It's a crime-drama/thriller called "Rage" I was hired to write a few years back -- movies take too fucking long to make lol. Actually turned out really, really good, the 2 hrs 25 minutes goes by pretty fast, good reviews, though it's only been reviewed by 3 critics so far. Will keep you posted. Would've been nice to get that AFF laurel, but it's cool.
