I usually watch horror movies all October. In recent years I've shifted from watching old favourites to watching mostly new stuff. Anyone got suggestions for horror flicks? (The more obscure/unusual/weird the better...I've seen a lot of movies.)

And surely I'm not the only one that does this. Any horror movies that y'all are excited to check out this month? I want to catch up on Candyman and The Night House in theatres. Also going to see Titane tonight, super excited for that.

If you haven't seen They Look Like People yet, it's a good movie that focuses on mental illness. You can find it on Prime. I enjoyed it a lot.

Oh great suggestion. I did see that one and really liked it. Inspiring for what can be done on a tiny budget!

I've been watching quite a few Korean movies/TV shows recently.

One on my list is Monstrum, a creature feature (I've not seen it yet, but it looks like it might be decent)

Feature

42.2

Two steps to writing a good screenplay:
1) Write a bad one
2) Fix it

Ooh yeah I'm gonna try to find that one. I skipped it in theatres because I was an overworked grad student haha, and then I forgot it existed. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm sure you've seen All Hallows Eve and Terrifier, but what about Terrifier 2? Isn't that one out by now. As indie as they are, I still liked them.

No Terrifier 2, yet.

What about Return Of The Living Dead? Such an underrated and fun zombie flick, IMO.

Most looking forward to "Lamb"

While it is probably uber-movie-geek to have a favorite production house, A24 almost always brings the goods.  The uninitiated are encouraged to browse their library.

Terrifier was so utterly ridiculous that I would most definitely watch Terrifier 2.

Hey, it's my tiny, little IMDb!

You've got that right! Low budget and just grabbing friends to act in it. Turned out great!

Terrifier...one of the select few moves to make me physically ill. That saw scene just made me sick to my stomach. And I loved it.

"Send...more...paramedics"

I love and own that movie. I also have the third movie on VHS, that ridiculous Brian Yuzna one. Also, I haven't seen them forever, but I feel like those direct-to-video sequels from the mid-2000s, Rave to the Grave and the other one, were surprisingly good.

Love Horror recommendation threads.

Thinking about Train to Burden (2016) - Korean zombies on a train.
And the Candyman remake.

Any good?

Busan?

Can't say I'm really recommending Golden Glove. It's a bit ugly and depressing, but it's German and then usually don't go for pretty or cool, IMO. It's based on a real serial killer in 1970s Hamburg, I believe. It made me feel dirty, but I still watched til the end.

Have you got the Shudder streaming service in Canada?

I use that as well as cinema visits to keep up with stuff, they've had some good stuff appear of late, including the new Creepshow series.

Recent highlights (for me anyway) have been...

Martyr's Lane
Superhost
The Boy Behind the Door
Kandisha
Everly
Jakob's Wife
The Toll
Vicious Fun

Shudder has about 20 new additions per month so there's always something new to check out.

The Boy behind the Door sounds good, Ant!

I don't have Shudder but hopefully can find it somewhere else.
Roger Ebert said this:

They do, however, steal one of the most famous images ever from one of the greatest horror movies ever in a scene involving an axe and a bathroom door.)

Good enough for me.

Jakob's Wife trailer looks quite a bit like Santa Clarita Diet which didn't really appeal to me, though Barbra Cranston is usually good horror value.

Will check out the rest, thanks.
