Titane is now available to watch at home and I wanted to give it a shoutout. This was my best cinema experience of the year (though I have high hopes for West Side Story, haha). I saw it with a small but enthusiastic, moderately drunk crowd at a 19+ theatre, and most if not all of us were audibly laughing, gasping, squirming, and cheering, especially throughout the film's show-stopping murder sequence -- there's a good bit of murder in the movie, but you'll know the one I mean if you see it.

It's the story of a disturbed young woman's search for security and happiness. Or that's how I read it, anyway -- I've seen a lot of different reactions. I'd strongly recommend going in blind.

This movie had everything I could ask for. Brilliant visual style, unexpected and emotionally engaging storytelling, great performances, sex and violence, black humour, and tons of all-around weirdness.

You may come away from the move wondering what genre it is. It's been mostly marketed as a horror film, but overall I don't think it aims to provide the experience that horror movies usually do. It's definitely not scary, though it is delightfully violent. For me, the strange mix of genre and drama landed perfectly, and I got all the visceral thrills of a horror movie as well as the emotional catharsis of a drama. And for all of that, I'd consider it a pretty light and fun movie in its own way. I walked away from it feeling very happy.

If anyone's enjoyed the director's previous film Raw, I'd recommend this one as a surprising step up (and I thought Raw was great). I'll be eagerly awaiting her next one.

Hubby just read a review of this on Sight and Sound, said it's a must-see.

Watched Raw not long ago. Not sure I would describe it as enjoyable, but it was riveting and disturbing.

I don't know much about this one yet. Go into it cold? Maybe... Though I might be tempted to read that extensive S&S review just to make sure I can handle the gore.

What we've been waiting for, for ages it seems, is Cronenberg's Possessor.
Have you seen that, Chris?

I really enjoyed Possessor, something different for sure.

I believe Chris reviewed it on the boards a while ago, that's actually where I heard about it.

I quite liked Raw so I'll be checking Titane out on the weekend.

I suspected he might have. Was being a bit lazy so will look it up.

Hope things are humming along for you, Warren.

Warren is correct. I loved (and now own) Possessor.

Titane is for sure in the same vein of extreme arthouse horror, though they're very different movies.

So, I watched this on the weekend...

That was bat-shit crazy!

POSSIBLE SPOILERS but I don't think so.

I was fully engaged the entire time but if I had to try and explain why I think I might be at a loss. This really isn't my partners type of film but I explained the plot to her the next day and I think both of us were thinking what the hell did I watch.

From the car sex scene to the homoerotic fireman dance parties and a woman leaking oil, I think you'll find there's something for everyone haha

Anyway... I'd give it a recommend, if nothing else you will be entertained.
