I've read that the font to be used while writing movie scripts is Courier. However I only have Courier New on my Microsoft Word. Is using the Courier New font the right or wrong thing to do?

Please don't torture yourself trying to write a script in Word.

Free software is available.

^^^ That's a better answer than mine.

When it comes to free software, I can't recommend Trelby enough.

I was dabbling with Trelby when I stumbled upon Writer Duet. FREE as well and has tons of nice features. It's web based so you can in theory use their app to write when you're away from your computer. The free version allows for a couple of projects at a time I believe.
