SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you

Since there isnt a thread like this, and we dont know eachothers specifics, I thought Id take the liberty of asking.  I basically only post in "I wrote a script" so i dont really care about people outside this forum, hence why i didnt make this in gen chat or elsewhere.  So whats your name, age, gender, location, and highest level of education completed? Or major in college if you went/go.  What kind of music do you listen to? Name bands, because if you say punk, and you mean avril lafuck, that isnt my deffinition. Whats your favorite writer or director? What are your hobbies other than writing?

My name is Luke, I am 21 yrs old, almost 22.  I am obviously male, and I live in Orlando Florida.  I am a Digital Media major at University of Central Florida, and am on the 7 year plan, which means Ive gone to UCF since I was 18 yrs old, but took years off here and there due to finances.  I listen to mainly metal, punk, hardcore and classic rock.  I like bands like metallica, slayer, iron maiden, children of bodom, zeppelin, the velvet underground, the stooges, the misfits, danzig, ect.  Ive played guitar for 10 years and play in various bands in the orlando area.  I also surf and skateboard.  My favorite writer is Elmore Leonard, and my favorite director is Quentin Tarantino.

now you know me a little better.  Whats your story, sucka?

You sound like a cool dude.

I'm 15, live in New York. I listen to basically just classic rock, alternative rock, some metal, and other types I guess. I just like alot of bands. A big range between bands. I go from Zeppelin to Metallica to The Strokes to Linkin Park to Alice in Chains to The Beatles. You catch my drift. I'd say that right now, my favorite bands are The Offspring (old stuff mostly), Incubus, and Finger Eleven (a great band that most americans have not heard of unfortunately). Favorite Movie: Pulp Fiction, Memento, or some thing else. It's hard to decide. Favorite screenwriter: Tarantino. Favorite director: Scorcese. I can't think of anything else to say right now.

I live in North Carolina, I love to write scripts, and act. You should read my campous killer series in the horror section and tell what you think. I have done a movie back in Feburary, and I'm going to audition for a film called SALT, a horror movie. You sound pretty cool. Please tell me what you thik of my scripts. Im writting 5 scripts right now. I got a Campous Killer 4, Freddy Vs. Jason Part 2, How To Die, Camp Dead: Part 3, and The Woods. How to die is a cannibal kind of script. Let me know of anything.

Thanks

My favorite Writer/Director is M Night Shyamalan if thats a correct spelling because he writes these great films that just make you think and keep you interested, of course I would've wanted a directors commentary on one of the three films I have seen but what can I do, I'm anticipating his next release The Village and hobbies other than writing Is I play video games alot, I am obsessed with the NHL and Mario lemieux (Not 12 year old girl and Good Charlotte obsessed) I like to waste alot of money on dvd's and cd's and my collection of both has went up high

Hi there. My name is Matt, I am 17 years old and I'll be 18 February 7. I completed highschool and I'm thinking about college. I live in Breezewood, Maryland aka Western Maryland. I like to listen to anything by Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. I also like Disturbed and Garbage. I like that techno music because I think it's good to use at parties when I write a movie. My favorite writer/director is Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson. They have brilliant ideas and they know what they are doing.

My name is Robert and I am 16 years old and live in Columbus, OH. I am currently in the 11th grade, but could possibly graduate a year early if I get good enough grades. I have a very broad taste in music ranging from The Dixie Chicks to Metallica (I know thats werid). My faviorite bands are proably System of a Down, Staind and The White Stripes, but like I said, I have faviorites in lots of different genres. My fav. movies of all time are "Jaws", "Pulp Fiction" & "Halloween". It is so hard for me to pick a faviorite director because I admire so many but id say my faviorites are Speilberg, Fincher & Paul Thomas Anderson. My faviorite screenwriters are Smith, Tarantino & Shymalayn, all who write great scripts, but to me arnt that great directors (Tarantino's only great film to me is Pulp Fiction, Resivoir Dogs, while having a very good script, wasnt executed very well in my eyes. Hopefully Kill Bill will rule all) Other then that I really cant think of much else to say other then that I have been a huge movie buff all my life and hope to be a writer/director someday, even though that is an unrealistic goal.

Hi. My name is Tyrice. I'm a 19 year old male, I live in Delaware, and contrary to what my screen name would have you believe, I am neither fat, nor a sandwich. I listen to a lot of music. Rage Against the Machine, AFI, Blackalicious, STUN, System of a Down, Hot Hot Heat, Cody Chestnutt... Hendrix, The Doors, man I could go on forever. I like everything. I graduated from high school a couple years ago so I'm just working while I decide what I'm gonna do. My plans are to go to school this winter, but I change my mind a lot, so who knows.

Oddly enough, I'm not really big into movies. I can't name any screenwriters that have influenced me because none have. I don't watch many movies and the only reading I ever do is old literature type stuff (I'm working on David Copperfield right now). But if I had to name an influence, it would be a show... and that show would be The Simpsons. I don't even know who writes for them, though, cause I'm an idiot.

But everything I do - reading, listening to music, watching a movie from time to time, working, going to school, eating, bathing - is all just a diversion... something to help me get over writer's block. As soon as an idea hits me, I'm right back here in front of my computer (or squinting at my PDA. heh).

I have a couple shorts on here that took me like a day to write, but I'm currently taking my time and working on a full length screenplay that is going to literally blow you away. It'll be like... BOOM! And you'll be gone. Ok, maybe not. But look for it soon, anyway.

Hi

My name is Shashi. I am from India. I am Web Designer for last 5 years and good movies have always attracted me. I have written quite number of poems and presently writing a movie script, finished more than half now. I will host it once it is complete and hope you will like it. Out the few movies i have seen I liked Shawshank Redemption, As God as it Gets.
Somehow I didn't like Pulp Fiction that much except for its dialogue & style of presenting, Well that is debatable but that is what I felt about it.

ALL ABOUT MAX!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JUNE 2003

In the beginning God created a writer and....

Okay, where do we begin?  First off, my real name is Jonathan E. Kiser, Max is my pseudonym pointing to how far I want to go with my writing TO THE MAX!  Aside from that it is a COOL name.  I am 37 years old.  I was born in Lubbock, Texas.  I presently live in Arlington, Texas.  I am both a martial arts/self-defense trainer and a writer.  I have been involved in martial arts for over 25 years.  See my martial arts stuff at http://groups.msn.com/kiserwingchunalliance and at http://groups.msn.com/personaldefensesolutions .  I also showcase my writings at Writing.com see http://www.writing.com/main/view_item.php?user_id=maxkiser .

I am also former active US Army, Field Artilleryman.  Currently I volunteer my time to the US National Guard in Dallas, TX.  I am a FIST specialist (Fire Support Team) for 4/133rd Field Artllery.

..and his hand began to cramp...

I began writing at an early age.  When I was 7 years old I wrote my first story about a space traveler and his funny adventures.  It was called "TAURU: SPACE WARRIOR".  I used this character in many ways to expand my imagination and write about things that I thought were wrong.  Unfortunately, I no longer have those wonderful little stories in my possession because they were lost on my numerous moves as a child.  Perhaps, I will attempt to rewrite these stories for children in the future.  Nonetheless, I wrote for my school newspaper as a reporter, perhaps this is why I like for some of my main characters to be Investigative Reporters?  I have taken some college, mostly while I was in the Army.  However, I am self-educated.  I do an enormous amount of research in the field of writing.  I read about anything, even cereal boxes.  So, one day back in 1999 I was wondering what I would do with my future.  I am very advanced in martial arts, however many people just don't care to learn these conceptually amazing systems that I have learned.  So, I believe my future is elsewhere (or at least involves something else).  I decided that writing was the other true interest.  So, I logged into Writing.com and the rest is history?

...and the writer thought, "Wow!  This stuff is a lotta work."

I have to this day written several works.  However, I am constantly polishing them in hopes that I will one day get them to a high enough quality to present to publishers and/or movie companies.  So, please enjoy my writings and if not please tell me why.

Overall, I write for my reader's happiness.  This in turn makes me a happy person.  I believe in constant improvement and commit to become the best writer I can be with the time that I have using the money and resources that I have available.

And the writer found some readers.  The rest is history.

from the mind of MAX KISER.

Hi,
I'm new here, my name is Cindy as you can see, and it looks like I am like the OLDEST person here. Ladies shouldn't tell their age WHEN THEY ARE OLD, but what the hay... I'm 46, I've got three beautiful daughters and three wonderful grandchildren who are beautiful, too.
I live in the metro Detroit area with my boyfriend of 4 years and daughter. He (my boyfriend) plays guitar and writes his own music.
I am a published poet, and I have a song that Paramount in Nashville are supposed to be managing, no word yet. It's title is "Wounded Angel".
as for music, I like The Stones, Coldplay, ICP, White Stripes, ect.
As for movies, I like horror, thrillers, and comedies. Anything, except a tear jerker. You'll never see me cry...
I am hoping to learn how to improve my writing from all you young'ens who are willing to help, and I will try to do the same; but you have to bear with me if I act ignorant, because this is all pretty new to me. I feel that writing screenplays is very exciting, and I love to write.

Wow how long have I been here and I didn't know anything about any of you!  Good going, Luke, is it?  So weird to say, so I'm going to stick with Eskay.  As it stands now, I'm sitting here waiting to get back on the Final Cut Pro machine here at school so I shall write my little bio.

My name is Lesley, I'm 24, female and I go to the Art Institute of L.A. I major in video production.  I want to become a screenwriter and I've been actively writing on and off since I was maybe ten or eleven years old, maybe longer than that, I can't remember.  I live near Los Angeles.  I want to get out of here as soon as possible.  Don't let people fool you:  you can live outside of California and still make a living in Hollywood.  It's not all it's cracked up to be.  I love hanging out here because I've met a lot of great people and I enjoy interacting with people as excited as I am about movies.

Music?  I like a lot of electronic.  Current obsession:  "Lost in Translation" soundtrack.  I like Coldplay and Radiohead, a lot of smaller bands that don't get as much publicity.  I'm tired of regular radio because it's all sounding the same.  So I listen to NPR.  I didn't like him previously, but John Mayer has kind of grown on me.

I'm starting to believe we didn't really go to the moon.  I've got this weird obsession with clean ears.  I'm sure there's other quirky stuff to know about me, but I can't think of it right now.  So there you go.

I LOVE THE DIVERSITY HERE!  IT'S SOOO GREAT!!!! :D :D

Heloo people

Well here goes my stint on this little chat.

My name's Tommy and i live in the middle of sunny England.  i'm 27 years old and i'm skiving off work as i type this.

Trying to just be a good/better writer which i've been trying to do for the last 2 years now.  I love any type of movie especially a good horror or action flick but get bored from time of all the brain deadness that goes with those genres.  Favorite movie makers are Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Wes Craven, Old John Carpenter people like that.  Favorite movie is Quadrophenia.  Gonna go out to see Kill Bill tonight - can't wait, really exicited 80)

Music tastes are fairly rock based, favorite bands at the minute are The Darkness (they rock better than anybody) and Jet.  All time favorites are Oasis, Radiohead, Coldplay, The Stone Roses, The Charlatans.  But i've had my stint of dance based nights out, you know the sort of things loads of people in small room listening to repetitive beats and then back some bodies house for more of the same till the sun comes up.

Gotta admit i think buying a pad of paper and a pen was one of the best moves i've ever made as i love to write (except when i'm having a bad day), looking back now i wish i'd have started it long time ago but he ho at least i've here!

So, I'm. . . do you want to know, or do you prefer to call me freak? I like freak, myself. I'm 16, live in a no name town with less than 250 people in it. I write mostly horror. I have written a twelve part, two movie series called Spoof Trek (which has a fan base, if you can believe it). I watch too many horror movies, play too many videogames, and am a bloody genius (my marks will show it). I have two friends, who are like me, sans writing.

I like anything rock, loud and obnoxious as my friend puts it. I never write without music. Favorite directors? Quentin Tarrantino, Robert Rodriquez, George Romero, Wes Craven, Lucio Fulci.

I'm hoping one day to make a zombie movie.

Hello All...
Ok...I'm Francis Scott Kessler.  Call me Scott or I'll eat your flesh.
I'm 32 years old, born in Merced, California and currently living in Kansas City, Missouri with my wife Jennifer, who is a high school teacher.  I work as a paralegal.  Now that the boring vital statistics are out of the way, let's do the fun part.

I listen to aggressive music that covers a wide range of genres: Iron Maiden, The Misfits, Jawbreaker, The Pixies, Thrice, The Alkaline Trio, Fugazi, The Used, Alice in Chains, etc.

My Favorite movies go on forever: Reservoir Dogs ,Once Upon a Time in China, Pulp Fiction, The Boondock Saints, Boogie Nights, Unbreakable, The (original) Star Wars trilogy, Indiana Jones (all three), Hard Boiled, Full Contact, The Usual Suspects, The Road Warrior, Unforgiven, Memento, Spider-Man, True Romance, From Dusk til Dawn, The Matrix, Excalibur, The Exorcist, The Wicker Man, Alien, Aliens, THe Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Angel Heart, Rocky (1, 2, 3, & 5...4 sucks), The Killer, My Father is a Hero (Jet Li, not Gerard Depardeau), The Green Mile, The Sure Thing,  Office Space, Friday, Brotherhood of the Wolf...I could go on forever.  I'm also an obsessive fan of Hong Kong film,  co-authored two books on the subject and own a respectable collection of said films.

I read a lot: James Ellroy, Stephen King, Clive Barker, H.P. Lovecraft, Chuck Pahliniuk, the occasional John Grisham, old British texts on King Arthur, mythology, religious texts from all over the world and my obsessive love of comic books (Hellblazer, Batman, Daredevil, Sin City, Preacher, Spider-Man, WATCHMEN, V for Vendetta, The Crow, etc).  I worked as an underground comics writer in the mid 90's on a title called DARQUE OF NIGHT, as well as writing role-playing and wargame manuals freelance.  I've just completed work on my first full-length novel entitled OASIS, TX.  I'm editing it now with the hopes of publication within the next couple of years.

I've completed two original screenplays (GREEN RIVER and THE MERCY HOUSE SPLIT) and two comic adaptations (JOHN CONSTANTINE: HELLBLAZER and HELLBLAZER II: ROYAL BLOOD).  With the exception of MERCY HOUSE (which I'm editing), the others can be found here for your perusal.

Favorite Directors: Quentin Tarantino, John Woo (his Hong Kong work...his American movies, with the exception of FACE-OFF, suck), Ringo Lam, Tsui Hark, Robert Rodriguez, P.T. Anderson, Martin Scorsese, The Wachowski Brothers, Sam Raimi, George Romero, Brian Singer...on and on...

If you have any questions, hit me...and Alan, I'm flattered that you list me among your favorite writers.

See ya all later!

Green River was fun to read.  Sorry I didn't give nearly enough criticism for it.  I finally saw some HELLBLAZER comics at a local comic shop which I should go to more often.  It looks like a good comic.  But instead of buying it, I'll read your HELLBLAZER scripts...eventually.

Hi, my name is Brooks and I live in Houston, Tx.  I'm 32 years old and am just starting out with trying to write screenplays.  I was a physician for a few years before deciding to give that up to pursue other interests.  My musical taste runs the gamut, from Sinatra to Snoop Dog.  I also have to mention the Flaming Lips - great band.  My favorite directors include Kubrick, Scorsese, the Coen brothers, and Hitchcock.
I'm glad I found this site, though I do feel a bit old.  I like everyone's enthusiasm for writing.  I'll try to read as many scripts as I can and provide constructive feedback.

Name: Ross Cooper
Age: 27
Height: 6 ft. 4In.
Weight 155lbs.

I was born in Nottingham England in 1976. And in the early 80's I moved to California. In '88 I moved back to The British Isles, this time living in N.Ireland for 4 years. In 1991...we moved back to California and have lived there ever since.

At the age of Ten I found that I was a very creative writer and I have been writing ever since. I've written plays for various groups and activties, written Poems for weddings and funerals- and written full length scripts.

My first full length script to be completed was Memorial Day a sequal to Independence Day- it was a co-writing project..and came out alright. During the writing of MD I was doing research and review for all sorts of aspects of my Terminator 3 script.

T3:FR took a total of 8 years to script and guide through it's 5 drafts. The main reason for this is I took the process very seriously. I felt as if I had to answer to cameron and deliver something worthy as a follow up. Judging from the responses I get even now three years after release...it seems I did my job.

Since I completed T3 I turned to other projects.

Strange December- Post Nuclear Survival/Thriller
Secluded Fear- Horror/Thriller Set on Alcatraz Island
Reverse Psychology- Action/Thriller

All of the above projects are in varying degrees of Pre-production and research.

My current projects in Active/Fast-tracked development are-

Terminator: Years of Darkness (Continued off T3: RoTM)

and

Terminator: The Machine Wars (Continued off Terminator: Years of Darkness)

Once again I'm taking a great deal of care in writing these projects sice I care deeply about maintaining a high level of conviction and solidarity in the franchise.

From a musical standpoint I mostly listen to Motion Picture Scores..as it stands my 3 disc changer is filled with Terminator music at the moment- Terminator: Definitive Edition Score, Terminator 3 Score and Terminator 3: Unreleased Score.

If anyone wishes to read my T3 script and post their reviews I'd appreciate it. We might start a page for review at the official website for my script.

Cheers...

Nice to meet you all.

Similarity's end there though as i didn't move to California - i ended up in Derbyshire

Posted by: LetaMoore (Guest), November 5th, 2003, 9:29am; Reply: 27
My name is Leta Moore Swearengin and I look for dead people.

Seriously.

I'm a professional genealogist (which helps to pay the bills) and yeah -- I'm a screenwriter. I live in Corpus Christi, Texas by way of the Land of Oz. I'm married to a guitar slinger and  love the blues. I have 3 grown children which now I think it's kind of neat that I started so young because I have a great buddy/mom relationship with them and am amazed that I had a hand in the fantastic adults they have become.

As a writer I have heard over and over -- WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW.
I'm assuming that fate meant for me to be a writer considering the wealth of experiences life has handed me. I buried both my parents by the age of seven. I have lived in orphanges and foster homes. I had my 3 children by age 22 and was widowed by the time I turned 24.. I have experienced and survived more death than you can imagine. I've lived through the pain of suicide, murder and abuse at the hand of a pervert. At one point in my life I believed abandonment must be my middle name. So writing what I know tends to be character driven scripts ususally film noirs because I have been the star of one all my life.

Some of my favorite films are Slingblade, The Man Who Wasn't There, Reservoir Dogs, Goodfellows, Pulp Fiction, The Usual Suspects, The 3 faces of Eve, The Longriders, Rear Window, Blue Skies, Frieda and Memento.
My favorite writers/directers are BBT (if you are a fan you know whom I speak of) The Coen Bros, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez and of course Hitchcock. And i do have to give a heads up to Tom Hanks cause everything that dude touches turns to gold.

And now -- finally -- with the help of Mr. F.Scott Kessler I am about to -- finally -- see one of my scripts come to life. Which is going to be very interesting for me considering some of MATFIELD GREEN is based on my parents life and some of the plot twists were actual "incidents".

So as a writer I say to you-- my fellow writers-- that the saying WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW does hold some merit. And I also say best of luck to you.
Posted by: the goose, November 5th, 2003, 2:25pm; Reply: 28
Hi I'm the Goose. After looking at the tiny little bio I put compared to everyone elses so I decided to give a longer one.

My name is Harry Deckard. And I live in, as Tommy said Sunny England. I have many interests, I screenwrite (a lot), watch lots of movies, take lots
of bike rides and I like to refer to myself as a very amateur Ghosthunter.
My favourite directors are Sergio Leone and Quentin Tarantino. My favourite
movies are: Once upon a time in America, Terminator, American Pie (all 3),
Unforgiven, Blade Runner, Alien, Predator, Vampires, The Thing...and the
list is endless.

My favourite writers are Quentin Tarantino and....some of the guys on here
are quite good.  Um, I like in music: Avril Lavigne, Nirvana, any rap and
I have a soft spot for Bruce Springsteen and Western movies. I've written about four scripts, and I NEVER bother to do re-writes. It just seems so pointless. If I just see a mistake! I think it's art...pure.
Posted by: Alan Holman (Guest), November 5th, 2003, 9:52pm; Reply: 29
Wow.  Now I want to see MATFEILD GREEN.  I hope you keep writing, because you're a very interesting person.  A lot of my writing stems from my experiences as well, so I support your statement of WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW completely!  Every scene in the first two episodes of THE CREATOR contains masked-references to actual people in my life.  In my comedy BANANA CHAN, the character named Buster is A LOT like I was at his age -- lovesick poet who's sucessfully dealing with issues of suicidal tendancies.  Even the character named BANANA CHAN is based on several real people.  Banana's personality is based on a girl I ...love.  Her situation is based on a girl I hate.  Or at least, that's how she started; she has since developed into her own unique individual.  But we should talk about you, because you won.  Congrats!

Hi.  This is Don.  I'm the Webmaster of SimplyScripts.com and the administrator of this discussion forum.  I admire all of you who contribute to this site.  I admire you for your bravery.  I admire you for being able to stand up and say, this is who I am, this is where I am from and this is how old I am.

I just finished read a chapter from "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" to my sons.  My boys are eight and three.  The chapter I read ended with this:

The Lion thought it might be as well to frighten the Wizard, so he gave a large, loud roar, which was so fierce and dreadful that Toto jumped away from him in alarm and tipped over the screen that stood in a corner. As it fell with a crash they looked that way, and the next moment all of them were filled with wonder. For they saw, standing in just the spot the screen had hidden, a little old man, with a bald head and a wrinkled face, who seemed to be as much surprised as they were. The Tin Woodman, raising his axe, rushed toward the little man and cried out, "Who are you?"

"I am Oz, the Great and Terrible," said the little man, in a trembling voice. "But don't strike me--please don't--and I'll do anything you want me to."

So, after reading that I thought it was time for Toto to kick over the screen...  I hope you aren't too disappointed.
I am Oz, the Great and Terrible," said the little man, in a trembling voice. "But don't strike me--please don't.   My name is Don Boose and I'm an unpublished screenwriter.

And, quite frankly, I don't know how my dorky little website got so out of control.  I didn't set out to create a screenwriting website.  I just like reading.  I like reading scripts.  Like plays, novels and short stories, a screenplay is a fantastic form of literature.  A good screenplay grabs you by the ears and pulls you into a story and doesn't let you go until you get to "The End" and you look up and think, "wow.".
Seriously though, I don't see myself as "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz".  I'm neither little, bald nor wrinkled, yet.  However, I am sure that a lot of you have a vision in your mind of who I am and what I am like.  I hope that by revealing to you all who am I and what I am like, I don't disappoint you.

SimplyScripts.com started out six years ago as a personal bookmark of neat scripts on the 'net.  It grew.  Later I got requests from people who wanted their scripts posted on the net for others to read.  I posted a few, though only those I thought were good.

Then I got a request from a young boy to post his script.  The format was wrong, the stories were silly and he kept pestering me to post them.  I did.  He wrote more stories.  I posted those, too.  He wrote me a letter telling me that seeing his stories on the web inspired him to write more.  And, the feedback he got inspired him to write better.  He wrote better.  He spell checked them before he sent them to me.  I was relieved.

It was then I decided that no matter what I thought of the story. No matter how badly written or badly formatted the story was, everyone would get a chance on SimplyScripts.com.

So, that is why all the stories get an equal footing on the site, much to the consternation of some who ask me to separate out the wheat from the chaff.  When it comes to an idea, what is wheat and what is chaff, is hard to tell.  A great idea can come in bizarre forms.  A stupid idea can be served up beautifully.  (This doesn't mean that I don't appreciate a great idea served up in 'generally accepted screenplay format').

The site is meant to give everyone a chance.  The unproduced section of this site gives everyone a chance to work through the bad spelling or strange formatting to focus on the story that they want to tell.  When I got an email from someone asking me to take down their script, I was elated.  Someone saw it and wanted to produce it.  Six months later it happened again.  Now it happens every month or so.  None of the scripts 'discovered' on the site, to my knowledge have been "six figure block busters", but that isn't the point.  If you are here with "how much can I make" on your mind.  You are in the wrong place.  If you are here with, "I have this crazy idea," Then, no matter who you are, you are in the right place.  At one point, someone wrote a story from their heart and laid it out for others to read, warts and all.  And someone read it.  And it became a movie.

More Later,

Oh.  I was born on Labor Day in 1965.

Don,

This is one of the most beautiful analogies I have ever read. Of course hailing from the Land of Oz myself -- I love it when people reference it.

Your "dorky" site is a wonderful tool to bring writers together to learn and to share.
I am amazed at the number of younger writers this site has garnered interest with and am happy they have a place to hang and get help learning the craft of writing.

I have a number of writer websites that I participate at and let me tell you that simplyscripts is fast becoming my favorite home away from home. Not only do you offer a place for eager first time writers to post what they feel is the next big break out film but also a place for us more seasoned writers to help steer them towards a better end product through helpful critisim and gentle suggestions on how they can better their final script.

This site is like finding an old trunk in your grandmothers attic, stuffed full of trinkets and treasures -- and a few old antiques such as my self.  ;D and my thanks go out to you for taking the time from your own busy life that it takes to keep a site as large as this one up and running.

Toto, we may not be in Kansas anymore, but have no doubt -- you ARE the Oz of simplyscripts.

When first I read "Don" at the bottom of an e-mail from you, I pictured a mafioso-esque figure, a mob-boss, someone with a calculating trigger-finger on their dirty hands.  Though you are "The Godfather" of the site, you're more of a family man than a destroyer of lives -- in fact, I doubt you'd ever destroy a life on purpose.  Though I know where I'm going with this analogy, I will stop it right here before it reaches its destination at I don't know where, even though I said I did...heh.  Don Boose, huh?  Family man, huh?  That's far different from what I pictured in my head -- at one point I thought you were an asian immigrant.  At one point, I thought you were a fifteen year old with a passion for reading scripts...umm...and you might have been.  Anyway, are any of your scripts on the site?  I want to read stuff by Don Boose.

Alan:

I knew when I posted my bio (well, actually just the beginning of the bio) that I would disappoint a lot of people.  I must say that most folks, based on the quality of update on the site, thought I was 12 or so...  As for the Asian immigrant thing, my wife is Chinese, we speak Chinese at home and celebrate both Eastern and Western holidays (actually, yesterday was October 15th on the luner calendar and marks the beginning of Winter).

As for my writings on the site, I purposely have kept it a secret.  If I had my name on the script, I am afraid that it would get undue and unwarranted attention at the expense of the other scripts on the site.

Don, congrats on a great site. This is probably the Godfather of all script sights. But please tell us the name of at least one of your scripts. Is Welcome to Prosperity one?  ;D

Until the posting from Don i never really gave too much thought about who'd set all this up but now i just have to say one thing - cheers Don for setting up this site and letting it run the way it does - since i stumbled across this discussion board i feel like i've learned so much

Basically at the risk of sounding sickofantic i send out an honest thank you and then i'll leave it at that.

Thank you

Don, you are awesome, awesome, awesome, man!!!!  I've been coming to your site for about as long as I can remember and I was thrilled and jumped on this discussion board as soon as it opened.  (I think there were only five people when I joined?)  Drew (Script-O-Rama) died, so I began looking for new places to find scripts to read.  I am so thrilled you host this site because from the several emails we've exchanged now and again I can tell you are thoughtful and kind, and precise.

That is so cool.  May this site always exist in some form or another because you have led me to some very very wonderful people who know who they are (and one I absolutely adore with all my heart;  he knows who he is) and I can't thank you enough for that.

Um, since everyone is sharing birthdays, hit up my Amazon wishlist Feb 5, because that's when I was born.  hint, hint, folks. :)  just kidding, I don't have one, but if anyone's interested, I'll certainly set one up!

Also, since I've been away from this thread awhile:  what's up with all the guys from Nottingham?  ;D

And Leta, I was really moved by your bio.  You have certainly been through a great deal of obstacles in your life and it shows that you are a more beautiful woman for the better.  I love strong women in general.  I am so inspired by them.  I'm also jealous you won Kessler's contest, lol.  But having seen just a sampling of your writing, I can tell you have a great deal of talent.  Congrats.

Ross, yeah, I know where Redlands is.  That is fire country alright, but so beautiful at the same time.  If there weren't that threat for me, I would easily move to Lake Arrowhead.  Hope all is well with you and your neighbors.

Hello Don
It had been a pleasure to read your bio. Please accept my thanks and warm wishes to you.  I always find myself logging to this site again and again. This site had been a real inspiration for writings.
Cheers

Don...Bravo.

I consider you a friend (as I do many of the other contributers on the site) and I'm glad we can all get to know each other on some level other than our work.

It makes me regret that I write screenplays so slowly compaired to my other written works.

And I too want to read your work!  Run it up the flagpole, bud...and I'm certain many of us will salute it.  Your bio leads me to believe you're an excellent writer and I'm curious to see what else goes on in your head...

Not to mention I personally want to thank you for your diligence and for giving us all the opportunity to write and post on this brilliantly maintained and generous forum.

Bravo once again.

Anyone else a musician?  I've been playing drums since 1989, I twang on a guitar (very, very little) and I sing for an old-school influenced punk band.

Anyone else?

I bought my youngest daughter a real pretty blue guitar for her 18th birthday tomorrow. She can play it and I will sing, that is if she doesn't do anything stupid like run off with that creppy boy she's been seeing.
I'll know soon, she's considered an adult now.  :'(

I somehow get the idea that we're talking about music now.  So I'll volunteer the following information:  I play the trombone, drums, and an unnamed yet melodious wind instrument.

oh and i didnt know they were your favorites, but they're in my top ten too...maiden first, originally i was a guitar player and started singing along as i grew up, so i learned and loved maiden guitar, harmonies and blazin solos, ect, but i love to sing like glenn danzig, so my writing fuses the guitar sound and blast beats of maiden and i try to sing like danzig haha

when i record some demo stuff ill post it

Hello all!  I just joined this forum.  I am 42 years old.  I am female and married with 3 daughters,8 cats, 3 angora goats and a shetland sheep named Gunnar who is our family dog. I have a macaw named Elvis and 5 fish and 30 rabbits(all pets and all named).  I also have 9 banty type chickens and 6 roosters as pets.  The chickens lay the cutest little eggs and our house is VERY noisy early in the morning and sometimes the roosters crow most of the night!  They are pets and hard to get rid of because they are sweet but they sure are noisy!  Our house is constant noise with a 3 year old and a 5 year old and a 14 year old, all girl. Me, the kids, the fish and my husband and the macaw inside and the chickens, roosters, goats, sheep and cats, outside. Thank GOD, bunnies are quiet.  Needless to say, we don't live near other human beings.  I'm a kid from the suburbs, experimenting.  It has been a bit of a failure.  We moved from California to rural Oregon, 5 years ago.  Not liking it!  No way out now, we are bound to the land by the animal commitment.  I need to be comitted.  My spelling and math skills are rapidly declining.  I have taken to writing!  I need to write myself out of this mess.  They say, "get a life".  Watch out!  I have one, there is no doubt.  If one has a life, one has diversity and adversity also.  Hoping to overcome this, this year.  We are planning to move to Park City, Utah.  There is more of cultural activity and less of avoiding bears and mountain lions and bob cats.  Once upon a time, I was very different.  I like the me that I am now, better.  I like being so weird and "out there" in the most ultimately, uncool way and finding out who really likes you and who really doesn't.  It has made me a more personally powerful person I find and is good for the imagination and creativity.  We are absolutely and completely poor, financially but we are emotionally and intelectually rich and our life is textured with interesting details.  I don't want it to stay this way.  I want to be able to travel and have adventure for myself and my husband and kids, I want to change the details, keep them interesting but less work, atleast a different and less noisy kind of work.  I have had a very varied life.  I change, as my life changes.  I cannot truly describe myself and I am grateful for this.  I can say that I believe in practicing love, kindness and compassion.  I know how to be tough also.  I have been tempered by life and am grateful for all of the "good" and "bad".  I like U2 the best for music and this is consistent for me.  I like Johnny Depp best as actor and this is also consistent.  I have always liked Tim Burton, I also like Quentin Tarantino, as director and as far as women actresses go, I currently like Jennifer Anniston best, as she is most likeable.  For acting skill, I like Nicole Kidman best.  I like movies that are very offbeat.  I liked "Girl on a Bridge". very much and love, love, love the French actor(his name is escaping me now) who is the star of it.  I am very good at watching movies.  I am currently in preproduction for learning how to write them.  Catia

Hey I heard about "Girl on a Bridge" but never got to see it.  Did you see "Amélie"?I love the French actor in that.  His character is definitely my dream guy... That's quite a speech, wow!  It's good to know more about you though.  Look forward to seeing more of you on the board.

It's a great little community here and we're very supportive, so don't be shy.  We're only here to grow.

I've gotta jet because I'm procrastinating getting ready for school, so I shall see you later.  Take care!

Daniel Autieul, that is the name of the actor in The Girl on the Bridge, a TRULY great actor in any language.  I didn't see Amelie yet.  Queen Margot is a good movie for great looking french actors that are great actors also.    I LOVE Vincent Perez(not French), he's in it also.  Nice to meet you and I SURE did go on, on my first post!  Comes from living in the "boonies" with only animals and children to talk to!

I hated Frailty.  Something about young boys murdering, chopping, and burying people....???  I think it was well written and good in the sense it made the viewer think....but i was just disgusted.    Although i love all of Tarantino films and his are even more graphic.  It was the whole kid thing I didn't like I guess.  So it was a good movie it just didn't appeal to me and I don't want to see it again.  I'm weird. ha ha

Oh yeah and Fraility is a cool movie - Bill Paxton rocks as actor and i guess in his directorial debut - Hudson still rules my world to this day "We got sonic, electronic ball-breakers...." classic stuff from the man.

Heather, Lesley:

I went from 27 degrees in Virginia to 72 degrees in Carlsbad, CA.  So, it is grey and overcast and will rain tomorrow.  Hey, at least it is above freezing.  I've lovin' life.  I drove from San Diego to Carlsbad up the Coast Highway with the windows down in stop and go traffic (I caused most of the stop and go 'cuz I was looking at the ocean).

Sup everybody, I'm Kelvin, 34 and I live in Atlanta, GA. I 've always wanted to be a screenwriter/ director, but I just recently got into screenwriting. My favorite director is Bill Duke, "I love his work." One intrest I have outside of writing is sports. If you want to see my script it's under the unproduced scripts, title "Kinship".

I guess I should introduce myself.  Sounds like a good idea.  I am Rob, age 22, living in North Carolina.  I've written over 10 full length screenplays and around 15 short length screenplays.  My favorite writer is anyone who has the bravery to express their ideas openly and is not afraid of what people might say.

Hi All,
My name is Stewart and I am currently living in Canada. I'm 27, and I've been writing on and off over the last couple of years...mainly as a hobby. I love watching movies, and playing on the PC. I have currently completed 2 shorts (which I've sent to SimplyScripts to be put online...still waiting :-))...I have one script on the go, and another full length script waiting to be re-written.

I hope to one day manage to write something deemed worthy enough to be produced...but don't we all.

Cheers!

Stewart,

Welcome!  I had a stuffed bear, as a child, named MacDuff...

I hope to get the unproduced section updated this weekend.  I just flew in from NewYork this evening (and Boy! Are my arms tired) and have a ton of email to wade through.  I hope that you (and everyone else) can be patient while I sort through stuff, get it organized and posted.

Hello, my name is Writer. I am fifteen years old and live in Redding, CA. I go to Enterprise High School(GOOOO HORNETS!!!) and am also in the band. Writing is great, but so is music. I've been playing guitar for the last five years and it has been my thing since then. Movies had always tickled my fancy, and when I was a little kid I had dreamt of one day becoming an actor, and if I was ever offered the job I would probably take it. But then, in the sixth grade, I think, I started writing my own little short stories and really enjoyed them. I was...inspired by Stephen King novels and read a lot of them. I also got into D+D, not just as a geek, but I realized that being the Dungeon Master gave me complete control and so I got to make a story that the players would respond to. Earlier this year, I read "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare- a God among writers- for class. I fell in love with plays. I soon discovered that people actually wrote movies kind of like plays, which makes me feel really stupid when I look back on it. Before I had just thought that producers thought of an idea, and actors were told what to say. I know- stupid. But noone else had ever told me any different. So I soon went on the internet to see how movie scripts were written. When I found out I began to think up ideas and write them down in my notebook. I have started on one and am at least fifty pages into it.

Have any of you ever played HALO?

Hi. I'm Rob, 25 this month, an Englishman with Swedish blood and an MA in English Language.

I listen to Beatles, Elliott Smith, White Stripes... mostly tuneful guitar-based stuff, but nothing too grungey or repetitive. I like a lot of 60s music.

My favourite screenwriter is Robert Towne. My favourite director is P T Anderson (as of late).

Besides writing, I like to travel.

Hey gang.  Here's the newbie.  Brian Wickham.  Thirty.  Tyler, Texas.  Carpentry pays the bills.  I was hanging out on the PGL boards for a while, then I stopped hanging out on them for a longer while, then I went back to find them defunked.  Oh well, PGL has disappointed me lately, anyway.  So I did a search and found this place.  Should I stick around?  I just started working on screenplays again after a terrible experience slapped the screenwriting taste out of my mouth.  I finally got over it and now the ideas are deluging, so I need someplace to go to be with people of my own kind.  I hope this will be it.  I hate shopping.
Oh, you were talking about writers and directors...  Favortie film makers:  Michael Mann, Danny DeVito, and Luc Besson.  I don't really have any favorite screenwriters, but my favorite writers are:  Kurt Vonnegut, Vladimir Nabakov, Albert Camus, and William Faulkner.  Somebody mentioned actors: Ed Harris, Gary Oldman.  Actresses I won't comment on because as a guy I am too influenced by looks to be objective.

lots of international attention which is nice to see.  welcome those inside and outside of the united states from me here in california!

rob - (macaco) elliott smith is really good.  i like his music too.  my fave director is also p.t.a., so good choice there.

who is the guy that digs josh hartnett?  matt?  hey, just gotta say that's my man so no you can't have him.  lol. :)  the others listed are cool too.  where is gosford hill?  is it near gosford park?  if so, can you say hello to ryan phillippe for me?  hehe.

wolfsfang, nice to kind of get to know you better, as i've seen you around but not really known much about you.

brian - i dig the screen name.  five year zen.  i wish, my friend.  i too used to hang out more at pgl but things kind of got a little mad over there last season and i didn't post as much anymore.  people were getting a little too...nutty.  were you there from the start?  back in the day i began as a reviewer when i first heard about it in oct of 2001.  yes, this is a good place to hang.  yes, i know all about the effects of screenwriting woes.  i guess you just gotta get back on when you fall.  shopping's not that bad.

nice to know you all -

Greetings new people.

Anyway, I haven't really gone into much detail about myself on this board and as I am like a B-movie (it's been there for ages but no one notices it) on the board thought I'd say hi. My name is Harry James Deckard and I live in Norfolk, England. Screenwriting has been my hobby for about three years now and I've had a few brushes with companies over my scripts but nothing really significant.

My favourite directors are probably Lucio Fulci, George A. Romero, Sergio Leone and Don Spiegel. My idol is Clint Eastwood and I would like to gain the respect in the movie world that he has (maybe my sights are set a bit high). When I finish writing my "dream script" which will probably be a low-budget Zombie flick I'm going to just launch into onto the world. It'll all probably fall through in the end, but hey, can't a guy dream? Anyway now I've opened up and embraced the website I'm gonna slink back into the darkest corners of the site and "see what happens next"

A smiley world is a happy world.

Hi I'm Kenney P. 19 y.o.
I'm from Belgium, Antwerp.
I love watching zombiemovies, writing (all sorts of stories), reading, drawing, party  8)

The reason I came across this site: I want to write some good screenplays, and I hope this site/forum could help me a lot.

I've got lots of ideas, I have a brilliant mind some people say (no not my mom).

Anyways, I already read some nice scripts here, and I tend to read more and post some myself ... Thats it :p

I would like to add: Bad Taste is by far my fav movie, low budget horror on top ;D

Hello all. I've contemplated on whether I should post here but I find most people on the site intriguing and involved with scriptwriting. And since I am relatively new to screenwriting this discussion board has been, to say the least, interesting informative.

On that note, I am a 30 year old biology student in Southern California. Like most people here I'm not originally from here. I spent 8 years in the military, just recently got out due, in part, to the fact that they sent me to this farce they call a "war". That really opened my eyes to the frail and fragile reality of the world in which most of us find our selves. So I've dedicated myself to a full on Altruistic lifestyle. My fellow humans are my only servant. I got into screenwriting because I wanted a way to express myself "artistically" and because I love movies...

I wish I could devote a majority of my time to my recently written script but find my time is limited and like most novice writers I'm not sure how to(or if I really have the stamina) rewrite my script, Shades Within. I learned how to srite screenpalys by reading alot of books on screenwriting and reading produced scripts. I've had Velera review my script and the critique was eye opening and informative, yet a little discouraging. So if anyone would like to give me some feedback on it I would be indebted. I have many years experience in military matters and medicine if anyone needs information or technical answers to these things I would be more than happy to oblige and I'm familiar with most scientific matters(especially physics/metaphysics).

Oh, my favorite movies are: Basketball Diaries, Memento and City of God...

Going through bios it's suprising to see so many writers from the other side of the pond...I just read your bio Don and I think it amazing the influence one person can have on so many people (especially from such a diverse group). For all you French speakers...my Father-in-law was a (relatively) famouse French actor(William Kearns) in the 70's and 80's. Some of his more famous movies were "Plein Solel" (Purple Noon) which was the original version of "The Talented Mr. Ripley". He played Freddy, the guy Ripley kills in the apartment...He was also Bill Balentine in the long running 80's french TV series, "The Adventures of Bob Morane"...He played many smaller roles (Patton) in American films...being from Oklahoma this has been my closes "brush" with someone famous...

Yeah He played Miles.  He's speaks in French with a strong American accent...It's pretty funny. I think the original is much better than the remake, by the way...

Hi everyone,
Obviously,  my name is Andy. I'm female and 25 and my favourite movie of all time is The Goonies. needless to say this inspired me to write my very own concept for a potential sequel, and I had a few dreams come true when I met 4 of the cast over the last year and got to give them a copy of my script (which was in its early draft!).

If you want to have an insight into 'Andy' you can download my video of when I met them at my website, in the video section.

http://www.redmorris.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/gooniesneversaydie/video.html

Looking forward to posting here more regularly. I love BTTF series, basically anything with Michael J.Fox in it and am a huge fan of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Am starting to think up some new script storylines, original ones now. Maybe I'll be able to improve my writing after reading all the helpful hints and stuff on this site. Great job BTW.

Have fun!

Hi all

Uhmm let's see. I hate my first name, hence most people online just know me as Roon (my surname is Rooney). Don't you just love the internet?

I'm an "aspiring" writer, though I'm sure I'm about ten years behind. I'm 25, another girl, I develop online content for an education company in South Africa, but am hoping to complete my Bachelor of Arts in writing in some point. I'm really green when it comes to scriptwriting. I've completed 3 scripts for existing TV shows and one original. All are in dire need of editing, since I still haven't got the hang of getting out of "prose" mode.

I don't claim to have very good taste in film or television, but I love all mutant enemy shows (Angel, Buffy, Firefly - was going to love Wonderfalls and Still Life but Fox decided not to let me). I play around with writing Angel scripts, since that is my favourite show, right up there with Farscape. Favourite movies are Deep Impact, 5th Element, Galaxy Quest, Willow, Donnie Darko - basically anything that makes me feel like real life ain't that bad. Favourite actors are Jensen Ackles, Bruce Willis, Samuel L Jackson and a slew of others. As for music, I try almost everything except sakkie sakkie, polka and opera.

I hope I will learn a lot here. It looks like a darn good place to do just that. Brilliant place!

Thanks

Baltis is my name

25

6ft 2in

210 lbs

I enjoy a manor of different things as long as it doesn't include being up above 15 feet.

I like working out. I am trying to get my own GYM opened up now here in KANSAS CITY "best city in the world"

I'm a carpenter by trade, went thru the app program right out of highschool. spent 4 years of my life traveling the united states constructing TARGET stores and other such department stores. I've been litterally everywhere here in the U.S. and that is why I saw there is no place like home. K.C. is where it's at.

I began writting screenplays about 3 years ago. Off and on with a friend. We set out to make a blisterless hand and bendable back life out of it, however he has went on to other things "Not including screen writting" I have stuck with it.

I have sold 2 screenplays for a modest sum of 5000 a pop
placed 3rd in a scripting contest for DC comics
I have an agent and plan to quiet carpenter work within the next few months to focus on my GYM and screen writting paths.

I have a wonderful wife, her son and the love of my life -- my cat BALTIS, whom I love very much and cannot live without. He is the reason I got thru my last 7 year relationship break up.

My favorite movie is -- anything and everything LUCIO FULCI has ever done. He's the man and will forever be missed.

My favorite director is -- LUCIO FULCI, not cause his keen detail to graphic violence in horror, but cause he was such a talented and multi diverse director. He laid so so so many blueprints for other directors like WES CRAVEN and PETER JACKSON and yet he is still overlooked. FULCI mastered everything he did -- WESTERNS, DRAMAS, COMEDY, SOAP OPERA's even... and we all know HORROR is his game.

my favorite food -- Anything with over 30 grams of protein and 100 grams of carbs.

My car -- WAS a 2002 eclipse... I was in a severe wreck a few weeks back and well... it's no longer with me :(

My car -- NOW a 2003 OLD's ALLERO ... not near as comfortable or smooth as my baby was. :(   "cost more too" :(

I live in a 3 bedroom home with a landlord who likes to mow the yard every 2 days it seems. I'm also not supposed to have pets, so it's a bit tricky when he gets in the window all the time :)

I like going to plays, reading alot, watching fox news, watching horror movies, sleeping in when I can, drawing a little from time to time...

that's about it for me... not the most exciting person I guess, but I'm content.
Posted by: baltis (Guest), June 25th, 2004, 1:14am; Reply: 125
Oh yeah almost forgot...

I don't like RAP, POP, R&B, SOUL, JIVE, or any of that rap metal crap either...

I like ROCK and that's about it.

U2 -- MATTHEW GOODBAND "2nd best band in the world" -- MATTHEW GOOD -- RADIOHEAD -- FLICKERSTICK -- anything 80's -- NED's ATOMIC DUSTBIN -- ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN -- BLINK 182 "not bad" -- FLESH FOR LULU -- and many others.

I like playing guitar also "or rather trying to" but haven't had much time to touch one. I do still get time to pick up and play though every now and again.  I'm not fantastic or great, but... I can hit a few notes and play a pretty good song book.

-------------

I've also found a new love for roller coaster's "even though I hate heights"

I don't drink, don't smoke, never done a drug and stand by my honesty in this.

That is about it...

Favorite People- Lois Black, Quintin Tarantino, Chris Rock, Uma Thurman, Ben Stiller, I can think of those others

Coolest crap- Money, Cars, Big hair, the 80s, the early 90s (big flat hair), Asain stuff, Mexican people, british action-detective movies, the embryo of alien life under antarctica waiting to be broken open to cause alien holocaust (sorry, when overboard with the EVA thing).....

Well, might as well put in my two-sense...dontcha love the spelling.  I'm a novelist, screenwriter, tired of being an executive chef, martial arts instructor and part time TM teacher.  Writing has been my passion since I was 11 when I got a D on my report card, knew I was going to get my butt skinned and decided to write my mother a, (boo-hoo, pity me letter) The letter was 3 pages. When she came home, read the report card, then read my sweet letter to her, she ask what magazine I had copied the letter from.  I was stunned and before I could explain, she cut my rump cause she thought I was lying....true story...since then, it's been a pleasure to write, especially since I had to get my butt cut for inspiration.

Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Canada, is where I live.  Our mayor Don Atchison was voted Canada's Craziest Mayor in a national poll, for good cause too, because I HATE HIM!!!  The bastard turned the other cheek when City Workers stole a bunch of stuff from our yard.  For more information, read many of the entries in my journal at http://www.livejournal.com/users/radiomovie/

What else can I say about Saskatoon?  Hmm... It's a beautiful green forest at this time of year.  The city is woven beautifully among the trees, and the river cuts it into two sides: the rich east-side, and the middle-class and poor west side.  I live in the west side.  Not the part of the west side that's the wrong side of the tracks, but still deep enough into the west side to wish I lived on the east side.  When my pal Josh moved to the east side, he immediately noticed that they get way more free samples of stuff in the mail (obviously because they're rich enough to buy more stuff).  He even gets free razors -- much of the west-side population SHOULD NOT get free razors, and luckily they do not.  I could use a new razor, though, for shaving.  I'm becoming more and more of a vagrant with each and every passing day; it's horrible.  This morning I was called by a collection agent who wants $508 bucks for a credit card that the bank was stupid to give me about two years ago.  I have -$508 to my name.  I've been looking for a job for a while.  I got offerred a job selling mortgages, but I didn't take it because I already worked in a "circle of callcenter hell."

My friend Stephanie said she can't believe I turned down a job.  I simply can't do anything un-creative since my muse inspired me to write Banana Chan.  Call it attention deficit, or whatever, but I know that if I'm focused all the time on only the things that matter to me, I'm happier than I'd be if I were focused on stuff that doesn't matter to me more of the time.

I'll quit before this post becomes a novel.

O.k., jini is my nickname....you can call me sya, sylvie, sylvia or "little pain in the neck"..... ;D
I am 35 years old and a beginner in movie-script-writing. A few month ago I finished my first screenplay "THE SEALED SCRIPT", I sent it to the screenwriting awards in Hollywood - but there was one problem: I sent it in German and in a not so good translated version in english.... ::) (think, think.....) Hm, perhaps when I get enough training here, perhaps, sometimes, I can translate my moviescripts in perfect english...LOL!  ;D
Well, o.k., great that I can be here with you all guys, to learn more about screenwriting.

sweet greets  :K)

I am new here....

My name is Natasha and I am 14 (almost 15)and I am a Cunuck!! I AM CANADIAN!! I have wanted to dierect/screenwrite since I saw Ron Howards biography when I was 8. Other than screenwriting I waste my time by dancing (ballet, Jazz, Modern, Lyrical and several other styles). I love music so I listen to anything except country (it kills brain cells). I have over 250 CD's and you can find anything from eminem to puccini (opera) to black eye peas to billy talent and nickleback. So yah I really like music but I don't play an instrument... strange. My favourite director is Ron Howard (mostly becuase he the one that inspired me) and my favourite screenwriter is John Logan or Scott Frank.

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie so I thought I'd introduce myself.

My name is Jennifer (aka angelparis) and I'm in my early 30s. I live near Adelaide in Australia and work as a reservations consultant for a travel company.

I love music...some of my favorites are: Pearl Jam, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Evanescence, Sarah McLachlan, Chris Isaak, and Dido.

I love TV (CSI, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Without A Trace, Alias, 24, Buffy, Angel), and movies (Pulp Fiction, The Crow, ...there are just way too many to mention).  A few of my favorite writers are Joss Whedon, Tim Minear, and Quentin Tarantino.

I've been writing short stories and longer novel-length stories since I was about 10 or 11, but it's only been in the last 4 years or so that I've progressed to writing in script form.  I have my own website (click on the link in my sig below) where I've written alternative episodes of the now cancelled TV show "Angel" from season 2 onwards.  All the episodes are done in as close to a shooting script format as possible.  I've got a copy of the shooting script for the first-ever Angel episode, so I've tried to stay as close to that format as possible.  I love writing in this format because I can visualise how the scene would look to an audience watching it on TV.  Some of the earlier episodes I wrote are a little naive, but I believe I've gotten better as time has progressed.

Eventually I'd like to work on movie scripts, but that's only going to happen once I've finished all the episodes for my website (I'm going to stop at the end of season 6...so there's a while to go).  If only there were 48 hours in a day....

Jennifer

Very cool to see a bunch of new people here.  Welcome folks!  I've been around since the dark ages.  My name is Lesley and I live outside Los Angeles, California in the good ol' US of A.  I work in Hollywood, but not doing what I'd like to be doing.  Well...soon enough!  :)  And angelparis, I like the name.  I'll drop by your site.

Welcome!

Hi, I'm new here. Umm, I'm not in to mention my name just yet. I just signed on here a few minutes ago. I live in Belgium, I'm 17 soon I will become 18. I enjoy films and writing. I have no real favorite director but if I have to take my pick Stephen Sommers is one of 'em. I've been into a one-man writings business since I was 9 or 10. Which means I write and no one cares. Most of it is just fanfiction. At that age I wrote especially Power Ranger stories because of their popularity then later on I trained myself more to it with other series. Now I mostly write about MacGyver, that was my first 100+ page story. Besides that I have this dream of becoming a director. Maybe I will someday. Hopefully. I've got another 2 years of school to do and then following an education in the movie business, I guess. In the meantime I kinda hangout and try to keep on writing. It's my hobby since the past few years that I kept doing and it's the only thing I like doing. Creating a world of your own where you can do whatever you like. Makes you feel like God and if you succeed to make a movie of it... I don't have to spell it out for ya, right? Showing the world how your mind works!! Further on... recently I started working on my first real movie scenario while I actually have no real experience. But I'm trying. I'm using an ideabook and try to make the puzzle complete.

I guess I've been here awhile and never really introduced myself.  I have been in the "filmmaking" business for about 5 years now.  Started into a screenwriting class at 14 and moved my way up to a professional production short film The Chance of Fate and owning my own small production company Factor Films.  I am obviously a big movie buff and they have taken over my life.  I have been lucky enough to meet people who share my passion and dreams for movies with the same intensity that I do.  I have written about 6 partial screenplays and about 10 shorts, most of which I have produced.  Anyway, that's me in a nutshell.

I didn't even see this board before I posted my other thread.  :B Please forgive me and pay no attention to the first one, Well anywhoo...I'm new to this board, but I've been writing for a while. I'm 17, graduated early and I'm an english major.  ;D  Let's see...I've always loved reading and writing. I wrote my first script when I was around 10. It was just an adaptation of "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" and it was meant for stage. After that I fell in love with writing and I wrote lots of short stories and two novel-length stories. One of my short stories was published in a children's magazine. So that was pretty exciting.

I started writing screenplays a few years ago and wrote tons of unfinished screenplays. I'm  in the process of writing a film right now. The first draft is almost finished!  :P I skipped 6th and 11th grade so I graduated two years early. I've been studying english, telecommunications and all my required courses.

I've helped out behind the set of a few indie films which was exciting. I'm excited to be part of this board. And thats mostly all I have to say  ;D

Hey I am new here. My name is Chris Wilson, aka: Towser the Dog (um... don't ask, lol). I'm 16 and I'm from New Waltham near Grimsby in England. I've been writing scripts since about 1998 and that was triggered off by how The Simpsons had once again another piss-poor episode (has anything changed?). I have a big dream of going to Hollywood and being a big ass rich writer! But for now, I like to write them irritating comedy shows (coming soon to a computer screen near you by the way, lol). My favourite film is The Apartment (1960; dir: Billy Wilder). My favourite director is Billy Wilder. I'd like to rub something in everybody's faces as at college, I am currently taking both Media and Film Studies, which is awesome!  :D

I have spent a large chunk of my life as an underachiever. Despite this I have managed to live a pretty comfortable and respectable existence. I emerged from my Southern California High School unscathed and unnoticed. I earned a Bachelors degree from California State University Long Beach in Radio, Television, and Film. During those four years I stayed quietly in the shadows scoring and photographing other student films. It earned me a reputation as a reliable, dependable, hard worker. This was my label and it had let me slip under the radar without incident or cause for alarm, but I was acutely aware that the trade off for this complacency was that something important inside me was dying. If I continued on this path that something would eventually be gone forever. I knew it as did everyone who knew me.

In 1999 I left Los Angeles for the romantic notion of New York City trying to slip the tight bonds of my own apathy and pursue that something. I took the first job I was offered behind a computer terminal in a Legal Publishing house. This was it, I told myself, I was in the biggest brightest city in the world and I was finally going to be more than the life I had lead so far. Those first few months in New York were among the most wonderful of my life and I was sure I was closer to that something than I had ever been. It also became clear to me that writing was the way I would rise above. I had talent and I was as passionate about it as a person with no passion could be. New York had pushed me further than I had ever gotten with my writing and I had started and stopped more Novels than I could have ever dreamed of in Los Angeles. I was moving in a forward direction and getting nowhere. As the days and months passed the brightness of the city faded under the ultra violet glow of my tedious desk job. I was caught again in the quicksand of contentment and my own fear of success.

I decided to go back to school and pursue a Masters Degree. That seemed like a safe and logical step. The New School University had a respectable creative writing program and I often wonder what my life would have been like I had showed up to the office two days earlier, before the program deadline. The teaching program was opened and I settled in comfortably. I was back on the treadmill. I became a good teacher and for the most part loved my students and my job. I married and had a beautiful baby girl. I was simultaneously satisfied and unfulfilled. My students inspired me to keep that something alive and I did, but I felt it slipping from me with every passing moment. And then one day the whole world was different.

From the fifth floor window of my classroom in Brooklyn, my students and I watched not just the beautiful skyline we took for granted change forever, but everything in our lives as well. As students names were called over the PA system and panicked parents rushed to take their children home I can’t tell you exactly what I was thinking, but I do know that my trance was lifted and I wanted nothing to do with my former self. I was ashamed, humbled and thankful that I had my family to fortify my newfound clarity.

I moved back to Los Angeles last year and vowed never to live with regret only to work towards minimizing it. The path I put myself on for so many years was not a waste. Instead I know now that there was no other path I could have been on given the choices I made. It lead me to that something I wanted to know so clearly and it guides every new choice in my new life. Here is my something as simply as I can state it: I am a writer.

Hi, my name is Nicole Adams.  I am 16 going on 17 in December.  Prank Initiation was my very first script.  I enjoy reading and writing.  I mostly write stories, but my friend, Tanner (directoboy12), got me into scripts.  We, along with my sister and friends, make movies that he writes.  ( Tanner's Valerie we filmed. )  I wrote Prank Initation in intention of filming it among ourselves.  But since we never got around to it, we dicided to send it in.  I like basically any music, depending on the song.  But if I had to choose the best, it would be classic rock and country.  Stuff like Led Zepplin, AC DC, the Beatles, Eagles, etc.  I am in 11th grade.  I am doing quite well.  I have a 4.036 carreer.  And I have no clue where I want to go in life.  I don't have a fav director or anything like that.  I like acting, but I don't think I'm that great.  I just like doing it.

I am Jesse Stilwell of North Carolina.  I'm 23 on November 1st and I've been writing for a damn long time, but just got into screenwriting a year ago after finding out that I'm a crappy novelist.  I tend to put some umph in my dialogue and found dialogue much easier to write in screenwriting, so ta-da; here I am.

I've yet to finish a screenplay, although I've got a metric ton of them started.  My current project is looking to be my first finished screenplay, which I'm fairly excited about.  I doubt it will ever see the light of day as I refuse to move to California due to heat being my asthma's bane, but oh well, I still love to write.

My genre of choice is comedy but I'm also known to write a thriller here or there.  I'm not a fan of pure drama, horror, or action.  I like to make people think, laugh, or both.  I also have a flair for debate and tend to get defensive, well, often.  I'm sure it'll come out at some point on this board, so I apologize in advance.

Nice to meet you all.

Hi all,

I've been involved in screenwriting for the past couple of years. After some friends began showing an interest I decided to create an entity, which will host screenplays for both TV and Film. Conflict Scripts started back in July 2003 and we currently have a selection of screenplay's which are viewable on our website.

We also have a team of movie/book reviewers who contribute to us on a regular basis to help build up the website content and along with some other features including a new look forum we hope to turn Conflict Scripts into a respectable voice for film.

Thanks for your time and feel free to take a look around our website, we are always looking for feedback and ideas to improve Conflict Scripts.

hey everyone, another newbie here. my name is jason and i'm a sixteen year old student as well as an aspiring screenwriter and director (although i've never successfully done either). i go to a private catholic school (bust!) and i have a part time job at the lamest arcade/sports center in the world.

my favorite director would have to be james cameron sometimes and m. night shamalan most of the time (sorry can't spell for beans) and my favorite screenwriters are kevin williamson (... well, only the SCREAM scripts, the rest suck) and once again m. night.

i have never finished a full fledged feature screenplay, but i have finished one short (i've only finished one short because i was actually trying to write a short.)

there's my info. i'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and maybe work up a collaberation or two. i don't really know what we're suppose to do on this board really... i just joined because i've visited simplyscripts.com for a while now.

I'm 16 and live in Pennsylvania - Romero's zombie capital -
Michael Birch is a pen name I use since I've gotten a lotta emails involving identity theft. Plus it's looks more proffesional then my actual name.
Hell, I'm a pretty frequent poster, I signed up in October but have been browsing the site for around a year and a half.

I'm a huge Sam Raimi, George Romero, and Kevin Smith fan.
And a Playstation 2 junkie - Silent Hill has jack shit on Resident Evil.

BTW I wrote that crappy short "Job Applications."

Currently - I'm working on a book, script, and a theatre project.

I also have a few treatments being written into scripts.

Hi My name is Marty...I just started a fun website for writing scripts for fun...http://fartinmowler.proboards42.com/index.cgi

I was a regular member on a site called I-mockery until I asked to be banned.  Yes, I asked to be banned, because I was looking for something more stimulating to put my creative juices to work on.  I think a health way to work on script is to just write as much as possible and I hope some of you will put some of your wierdest idea's on my site...I want to say that I'm not out to steal any idea's or use this site for a pipe dream at actually making my own professional script.  I think in everyone there has to be a level of pride in knowing that what they accomplish is 100% there own.  Please have fun post and make up a character.

Quoted from Don

Hey Don...

Stumbled across this thread and had to resurrect it!! Wow there are a lot of people here that go waaaaaaay back, LOL!

Just wanted to say thanks for doing such a great job administering/webmastering this site and for giving people a place to post their work and read and learn from others too.

I enjoyed reading your post here and putting a face to your infamous name.

Andy (Goonies-obsessed SimplyScripter  ;D )

PS - Any newbies here that missed this thread??

I can't remember if I have posted here or not...so here goes:

My name is Stewart and I was born in Dunfermline, Scotland 1977. I moved to just outside Saint John, New Brunswick in Canada around late 1989. From there, we travelled 10 days across Canada until we came to Richmond, British Columbia in 1996. I have 3 older sisters, 2 of which are still back in the UK...along with other family.

I work in the I.T. field - and lend support and development to a large video chain across Canada (yay, free movies!). I like my job, but I don't love it...

I started to write when I was around 22, but never really took it seriously until the last couple of years. I think I have talent, so I am trying to make up for lost time! So far, I have written the following:

Father - Short
Looking Down From Above - Short
Addiction - 60 min feature
Untitled Project - Feature length, 1st draft
The Confession Booth - Short, 1st draft

But the big thing is another script that I have written. It's currently in Option to a production and distribution company and hopefully will be starting production sometime in the fall. It will have a nice little budget, and we are hoping to attach a well known name. Yay! I don't talk about it much because I don't want to jinx myself...and until they say "...And Action!" - it's still not concrete.

I am very easy to get a long with, a good laugh, great sense of humour and very loving. I have lots of friends from coast to coast and overseas. I'm a geniunely nice guy! I got married last July 17th to my lovely girlfriend Nadine, and we are about to enjoy our first anniversary. Married life is tough, but what isn't these days.

I call myself MacDuff, because that is my Clan. We killed MacBeth, so I'm famous for something.

I am currently working on a new project that will hopefully be my next success...

:-)

Hey Stew,

I wish you the best with this project - I hear you on the whole 'jinx thing' but keep us posted with how you get on, ok? I really enjoyed reading 'Looking Down from above' too btw.

Take care

I don't know that I've ever posted on here.

My name is George Willson, and I've been writing since I was a senior in high school in 1992...sort of. Before then, I made impromptu "movies" in my backyard with an old video camera, and instead of having dialogue, I set them all to music. I have since lost that tape. I don't know where it is.

I mark 1992 as my started writing year because it was in that year I actually sat down to write something...but it wasn't a screenplay. No, I wrote a musical piece and scored it for a concert band. It was called "Creature" and lasted about 8 minutes. It has been played twice since I wrote it - never end to end and never in public: once in high school and once when I was in the military band. I conducted both times.

In 1993, I started writing in a different medium: musicals. I knew I had a knack for storytelling, so I thought I'd combine my musical ability with storytelling and be another Andrew Lloyd Webber. My first musical, Amehr, was completed with a collaborator writing lyrics to my music in 1997 and I submitted it local commuity theatres. Only one threatened to produce, but backed out because he didn't understand it. The only feedback I ever really got was, "The music was beautiful, but I didn't understand it." I revisited it in 1998. Yeah, it was a mess. Might make it into a movie at some point. Back to the drawing board.

In 1998, I completed my second musical called One Night. This one had a more solid storyline, good music, and I wrote book, music, and lyrics on my own making me more of a Stephen Sondheim instead of an Andrew Lloyd Webber. When no one would produce, I attempted to produce it myself in 1999, but never was able to get a cast to perform it. I still have it stored away. I have sequenced CD's (it took two) of the music. It has never been performed.

When I was writing One Night, I got into playwriting. With a local playwriting forum, I wrote a one act play called The S&M Library which was a sketch show about a worker in the Southern & Metro Library. It was performed 8 times at a little theatre in Tulsa, OK, and it was hilarious (judging by the audience laughter).

During the One Night fiasco, I ran across a guy on the internet called Jimmy Granström (but he went by Woodriver at the time) who liked musicals and in collaboration with a total of 4 other people (all of them Swedish!), we wrote a musical called Ron & Julie which was produced in Sweden at a college dinner theatre. The website is still up at www.ronjulie.com; I wrote the music clip which plays when you login to the site.

In 2001, I was browsing the internet and ran across screenplays. I started reading, and thought it would be cool to write a movie. I'd written musicals and plays (I have a couple I haven't mentioned), so I thought "why not?" I had an affinity for horror and thriller movies, so I came up with a couple of plots. The first screenplay I completed was entitled Vengeance, which you can read under horror on this site. I completed a second one very shortly thereafter called The Soul Keeper, which is also on this site under thriller.

I had another idea at the time about a twist on the traditional Vampire myth. It started very simply where the characters had all the traditional characteristics, but hated who they were. Then I recalled Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula and wanted to re-write this based on my vampire myth change-up. I wanted Dracula to be an old man, there is a  young man who protects him, I wanted Mina Murray to look like the young man's lost love causing him to follow her around, and I wanted the vampire hunter (I couldn't remember his name at the time) to be a vampire himself and have a vendetta against the young man. Over the next 3 years, this idea morphed into a tale now known as The Fempiror Chronicles. I have written parts 1-3. For those who have been following the tale, I told you those stories to tell you this one: Part 4 is my rewrite of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I now sit here, 13 years after I started writing something, in a genre completely removed from where I started. I can still write music, and I still play piano, but mostly I play the keyboard, if you know what I mean. Boy, I sure know how to run on.

Anyway, there's me in a nutshell, but nowhere near the whole story.

I've been loitering around here for a while but I don't think I ever properly introduced myself so here goes:

I'm 24 years old and from the U.K. I used to write a lot of stories as a kid but kind of gave up in my later teenage years while discovering girls and beer etc. When I was 18 I went to university to study Film and Literature. During the next three years I was drawn into screenwriting, not least because we had a great screenwriting tutor who really inspired me to write again.
I wrote a few short scripts while at Uni (none of which I'm happy with) and continued to write upon leaving. I spent the next year or so gaining experience working on independant film productions and contributing articles and reviews to websites. I was starting to grow tired of making tea for snotty actors, working long hours and rarely being paid when, out of the blue, I was offered a job.
I now work at a video games studio in Germany, where I'm primarily employed as a writer but also dabble in cinematics and other areas of game design. The last year has been a great experience for me and has really helped to develop my writing.
Since I spend most days writing for my job, it's difficult to motivate myself to write in my spare time.
So I decided that I'd write something just for fun- nothing too serious. It's a silly, whacked out idea I've been toying with for a while now and finally got around to writing.  I'm almost finished with my first draft and once it's tidied up I'll post in on here and let you guys tear it apart  ;) It's about pigeons.... yes... killer pigeons!

Thanks Andy!

That was my first ever attempt at writing something - so cheers for that.

It's good to get to know everyone.

Hey there!! I love pigeons, LMAO :o! Would like to check this out!!! You've got me intruigued.

Germany is beautiful, I've been there twice, once to Dachau and the other time to Berlin. It's so clean there, my God! Do you like it there or you prefer England?

Best of luck to you while you're there!

Hey George,

Wow.. writing since 1992 - all I remember doing that year was listening to East 17 and NKOTB!!

That's quite a comprehensive background you got there, really interesting. Musicals seem to appear every now and then out of Hollywood, but don't in my opinion, fair as well to the oldies/classics -  EG Sound of Music, Oklahoma, The King and I etc... etc... etc.. LOL.

Nice to be better aquainted with you. :)

Monette is my real name, and I'm no doubt the oldest person on the boards. I'm a teen at heart, still liking hard rock and most everything else I always did. I live in a suburb of the L.A. area.

Here's a little idea of what films and scripts I've enjoyed seeing/reading in the Thriller/Horror vein.

Two good horror scripts I suggest reading are "The Farm" and "Shimmer", both highly original stories.

Among films I enjoyed were "The Changeling" and "The Shining". A more recent one, "The Others" had elements I like.

Of least interest to me are slashers, where knocking off a group of generic teens takes 98% of screen time. I don't read scripts with excessive violence or loaded with gross language. Unnecessary, prolonged sex scenes annoy me. My thing is to be emotionally moved by characters, rather than plot. Formulaic plots are the most boring. Too many twists and turns can turn me off.

So...if your outlook is similar, I'd like viewing your script.

I'm Ashton, one of the founders of Cracked Cranium Productions. CCP was made for three reasons. 1) To help publish my plays and produce THG 2) To help people who want to do a play or make an independant but need scripts, equipment or expertise 3) to make enough money so that I don't have to get a real job. I have done many plays and am in the process of producing a Buzz (the THG I spoke of) type TV series (which will be exclusive to Canada). I have acted in a TV series and some of my plays, as well I am one of the THG crew.

A "real job" As opposed to writing, which is a "fake" job?

LOL! Deja-vu!!

Writing is a real job, it just takes longer to sometimes get paid for it!!  ;) As already stated on this board, non-writers don't really seem to get the fact the writer's are in fact working.... now whether they stand to make money or not really isn't the issue. It's what it means to you and you only.

Andy
