I'm retired and I'm not even old enough to buy beer, well at least that's what I tell people when they cry about getting a job

I have been trying to get one for a year and a bit since I graduated school and what do I get for my effort rejected for a fat kid who can't keep his pants up

This town has some pretty messed up values when it comes to employment, I'm a model worker and they pass on me for children and fat people... _______

Wish! Why should I wish? I said my job was part time, well the other half of my time is taken up by destorying the evil hordes of the undead, writing and chatting up girls way out of my reach.

Sorry to go OT and I swear I won't do it again, but Alan, whatever happened with Niolan?  Have they paid you yet?  Yeah, I'm a student too.  Bloody tired of school but graduate in December God willing.

I'm a zombie buster in my spare time, video game demigod part time, and all around evil genius full time. Now, watch as I unleash my latest creation: cybernetic zombie fish shaped like Playstation 2 controllers! MWAHAHAHA!

Well, to get this back OT (tho I am interesting in hearing about Alan's saga), I'm an Epsilon Semi-moron (Brave New World by Aldous Huxley reference) with a large American Telecommunications company that begins with the letter 'V' paper pushing project manager who has been occupied for the last month with this.

Oh, and I moved this topic to the "Getting to know you" thread.

Alan, if you're trying to sell Banana chan as a kids cartoon, good luck, there's not a station out there that would take it as it is and maket it for kids, without butchering it.  It'll probably do best on Adult Swim, i know i said toonami but that was before I read the second episode...

Anyway, some of you seem to deal with the Undead  (better known as zombies).  I have it worse.  I DEAL WITH THE SPAWN OF THE DEVIL- EVERY DAY FALL, WINTER, AND SPRING!  Yep, you know what I am.  I am a teacher- I started out as a permanent substitute for a middle school, first one on the lst if a teacher is out, and if I learned anything from that job, it is that SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS have it bad, and are not payed enough.  Those little kids think they can slack off because the teacher is out, and the advanced kids always criticise you if you don't do things way the teacher does it. (and no, i will not tell you what school, simply because that's my business, not yours.

I also started and teach the  animation "elective" in the last two bells of the last semester, which is small, the most students in one class was 9 kids (that's how obscure it is.)  which is really fun, we used a program called Animation Maker, and we make our little two minute flicks starting from a script and working our way through the finish. It's fun, but a lot of the kids don't know jack about scripts or anything, "don't they just make it up as they go along?" one student asked on the first day.

Fun job, but, if you notice, i was really busy for about two months or so, and was hardly on, that's because I asked if we could do the elective, and the school said yeah, but nobody (in nyc, at least) had ever done anything like it, so i had to write out the curriculum myself and everything.  I've been asked to do it again, and out of the 17 that did the class this year, 16 are coming back, and 3 new ones so I hope we'll be able to do more stuff this time around.

Apart from stopping the zombie hordes I am what you call a ghosthunter.
Paranormal Investigator. That is why most of my work tends to be based
on the occult. Getting paid for proving to people what they think isn't real
is real is a pretty good job!

Conscience is one of the reasons why I quit a well-paid job in Market Research.  Now I'm broke.  But I've still got my soul.

Missed this thread for some strange reason...

This is sooooooooooooooo boring, but here goes.

I work as a 'Costs Negotiator' for a law firm...in other words, I make and inflate bills, then negotiate/argue over them, and then rip people off so I can make my firm profit - ......NICE!

And yes, I do go to bed at night and sleep with a clear mind....how horrible am I?LOL!  ::)

See why I NEED my Goonies........ ;)

Right now I'm in high school and most the jobs in my town are either taken by college students or not availible because of job shortages. Damn, President Bush!

Either way, I'll probably try to get a job at  "Hollywood" video over the summer for money to finance a film project.

I am a juvenile observer, which is a fancy way of saying Baby sitter (If you can even call that a job)  during the summer I do it more proffesionally at summer camps...

I'm in retail managment. That is what I have been doing for the past 8 years. I think this job has helped me with writing.
You wouldn't believe the things that I see and hear. Things like sneaky shoplifters that try to appear as nice people, drunks and drug users either using or passed out by the dumpster, prostitutes who use our parking lot, and then the regular customers who come in, some with their children, who always take the time to say a friendly hello. The kids are the highlight of my days there, that is when I'm not having to pick up after them.

I'm a soon to be travelling bum. I have no idea when I will get another job after this one runs out in 6 weeks  :o

I do know that I want to get out of the legal industry but really don't know what the hell I want to do with my life yet. Ideally, I would love to combine my love of animals, media and people all into one job, but I have no clue as to what that would be. I am stuck. 26 and no plan, Stan.

Oh well, maybe I will forever be a travelling bum - be kind if you see a haggard looking cavewoman washing in a Denny's restroom near you  ;)

I will most likely not get another job until next year sometime when I hit Canada! Only 2 more paycheques left and then niente.
Scary stuff!

Does anyone here actually enjoy their job?

I have yet to meet anyone who really does! I envy those who do and would love to find my calling in this life before I reach the age of retirement... :o

I actually do enjoy my job. Working in the games industry is a lot of fun. I honestly can't complain. I guess I got lucky

I have worked in call centres in the past, customer services, sales etc so I know what it's like.  It can be soul destroying at times, especially when you have 8 hours of irate customers and very little appreciation for your work. Targets! targets! targets! I hated it

I'm glad you do like your job!! Is it also working abroad that helps or the game industry alone which is fun?

I loved Germany and enjoyed working there for 2 weeks when I was younger. Plus the Oktoberfest is fun... :P German beer is strong stuff and they drink so much of it!!!

You reminded me... I have a friend in California who has been working on this new game called 'Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks ' or something or other, which is due out in september I think. I am not sure exactly what he did on it, but loves his job too. Hmmm, maybe I'm in the wrong industry!

To qoute that cool guy from "Dawn of the Dead" '04, "I sell TV's at Best Buy."  Well, I used to, 'til I realized that I hated it there.  So I dropped the job, dropped some of the weight I gained from working there (actually I just bulked up on muscle), and now spend my time hanging out with friends and mallratting around.  But once I go to Pittsburgh for school, I'll have to get a job.  'Til then, I have recently made a Scarecrow mask and I soon hope to invent a fear toxin (boy I wish I was joking).

Cheers.

I don't hate my job, considering that I am posting from work right now, have access to Word, am able to save my work and email it home, and have enough time between calls to write quite a bit (my short The Last Word was written while at work, along with all of my Fempiror Chronicles screenplays.) I am not in love with my job and if I were to promote out of this position, my love might diminish considerably. I would rather write at home with a deadline and a paycheck, but I can deal with what I have. To be honest, the pay for as little as I do is pretty darn good, too. I'm getting over $15 an hour to twiddle my thumbs.

I've worked in three different call centers in the past. I think my experience was tainted by the last two places I worked where there were always 10+ calls in the queue and you could go a whole week without any break between calls.

The first place I worked was much quieter and I actually did enjoy it. I had time to browse the internet, write emails etc and it was good to talk to some of the nicer people you get on the phone. I found it helped me with  writing dialogue too. You pick up on little nuances in the way people talk and react in different sitations. I used to play a game at work where I'd guess which area of the country people were from based  on their accent. I was pretty good to. I'd have their local retailer up on the screen before they even told me where they were from. But yeah, the last two places sucked.

Your job sounds okay, I struggle to write a short in my spare time, let alone an epic trilogy while at work.

Thank God I am leaving my job in 5 weeks. Today I had the worst day ever.

I got told off for internet use at my office when I was in work before 9am. Now the firm are changing their policy of internet before work, after work and lunchtime to only 10 minutes a day MAX! My boss was very unproffessional too and b*ll*cked me big time and just shouted at me for 5 minutes straight. Sodding git. I was in shock for about 3 hours afterwards. :'(

I cannot wait to get out of there now.

Sorry, rant over.

That sucks but I guess depending on your work maybe it was unprofessional on your part ha-ha I'd say get a laptop computer and use that... I'm not sure if you can get wireless internet on them but if you can you're set.
