Is it just me, or has Comedy Central just had some sort of come-back in decent live-action shows?  For the longest time, episodes of "Upright Citizens Brigade" and "Strip Mall" (as well as countless others... alright, one more) and *shudder* "Let's Bowl" polluted the airwaves of my beloved comedy channel.  Now, with the likes of "Chapelle Show" and "Reno 911!" reering their happy heads, it looks like Comedy Central is finally doing something right.

With a stellar comic cast, this "COPS" parody does just about everything right.  Never have I witnessed a show where just about every single joke is a keeper.  There is not a single one that really falls flat.  This leads to a lack of that awkward feeling of a room full of friends where-in everyone-looks-at-each-other-uncomfortably.

One of the best things that can be said about the show is that every episode is such a good parody that, if it weren't for the jokes, the series could pass as an authentic police reality show.  The directing and editing of each show has that shaky, "COPS" look... except with a better premise.

(And not as much beating on minorities... pysically, anyway).

Anyway, even if you have never checked out this fantastic series, I suggest you pick up this set and immeadiately start watching the 2nd season (the third episode comes on tonight at 10:30 eastern time).

TV Series: **** out of ****

DVD Extras: *** out of ****

The uncensored extras are alright, though I was hoping the commentaries would have been a bit funnier (there are a few silent pauses throughout the tracks).

Your'e right, Comedy Central has gotten their shit together in the last few years. Reno 911 was a suprise hit last year, at least to me. I'll get that DVD sometime soon.

This reminds me of another show I saw on TBS late one night a few weeks ago. It was a show called 'Blotter', as in 'police blotter'. It was a very similar show to Reno 911, but not nearly as funny. The timing of all the jokes was just a little 'off', but they had some funny ideas.

Anybody else see this, or did I just hallucinate it?

Somebody else told me about "Blotter."  There is even an official website, although it is just exists to sell products.  But, no, you did not hallucinate it.  I've been told it usually comes on around three in the morning on TBS basically as filler between late night movies.

Hey, I love reno 911. I dont think any show can compare, unless they just stole ever idea from the show. On the dvd though----is it edited, like the show on tv, or not? Becasue the Chappele's show DVD isnt supposed to be edited.

While a few choice words slip through the commentaries, the actual series itself remains censored... though, I do not believe that to be a bad thing.  After all, without the bleeps, certain things would not be as funny... just think of anything Weigel says, and take away the bleep.  All of a sudden, no more fun.

Yeah. Like when whats-her-name (I cant remember the name! Shes the crazy one with the dead mother and the friggin beanie babies!) when she tells them she was just kidding about killing herself and everyone is pissed because they had treated her nice----and then she totally says f*ck you at LEAST ten times, but they beeped it all out. That was funny as all hell, man.

Reno 911 is better than Cops. I don't see why on Comedy Network they block out nudity and swearing. Have you seen Chappelle Show? He says racial slurs and cusses like his mother's dead and it's all uncensored and this is at 9pm and Reno is usually on later
