I'd just save your rental money and not even bother, it was very very very preditable and very very very untrue to the original... So much so that it shouldn't have even taken the name.

I was really dissapointed... but I can't complain really, I had little to no expectations of it anyway.

Funny little story...

I was in Block Buster one day, shortly after the release of the movie... and some girl came in asking if they had anything like Dawn of the dead out in theaters. She went on to say how she's never seen anything like it before and how so over the top it was...

"Just a bunch of B.S. I knew wasn't true"

The guy at the counter, kinda chuckled and said yeah... Dawn of the dead.

She said, it's already out!?

He said, yeah for like 20 something years...

She was like... they had another one?

He directed her over to it and of course more lack of common sense ensued.

Anyway, it was funny to see how people "like the girl in question" get snowed blowed by movies they "THINK" are new and original.

I love how everyone was saying "THE ZOMBIE BABY THING IS SO OUT THERE. IT's SO WILD"

Was it wild in "ZOMBIE 3" no, it was sick and twisted and disturbing. Only cause it wasn't released to mass market appeal. Only cause it wasn't for the eyes of the pop culture kids.

I loved the original Dawn of the Dead and saw nothing wrong with the remake. I'd hardly call it a remake by the way. It loses the point of the original, but I still thought it was a good, fun ride. While it was predictable, it's really only predictable to people who have seen a lot of movies in the zombie genre, like you, baltis.

... I can't say that that would be the case in this movie. The remake was a pointless jont down a torn path of destruction.

I didn't care for the remake, at all. I also didn't care for the TCM remake. I dont' like remakes either though.

I've seen alot of ZOMBIE movies, wrote an incredible WESTERN ZOMBIE movie trilogy and even wrote a space age ZOMBIE movie... and even a medievil ZOMBIE movie, named MEDIEVIL.

I know the genre... I know it too well and I know it well enough to know what is a bad zombie movie and what is a good zombie movie. Sadly 87% of all zombie movies are... crapo!

I have to agree with you there. Sadly most zombie flicks fall flat.

(Hopefully I can make JTD one day and make something that zombie fanatics will like. Lord in heaven I hope the zombie fans will like it, lest I be absolutely crushed and sell off my zombie DVD collection in shame. Bushido may be a bit extreme, though.).

In my opinion any zombie flicks make in the post 80's really aren't any good. (I liked DotD04 though, if for nothing else than the first ten minutes which kicked absolute ass). If only the Italians would start making them again.

As for remakes? Remakes suck. I made it twenty minutes into the TMC remake before I started picking up old popcorn off the floor and eating it.

I very much enjoyed "Dawn" '04.  While it certainly was not up to par with the original, I was certainly entertained the entire time throughout (I liked the fact that nobody survived).  Not to mention, for a first time director, Zack Snyder did a great job with the strictly alright script crafted by "Scooby-Doo" (why?) scribe James Gunn.  

Finally (and I know a lot of zombie fans will eat me apart for this... no pun intended), I really, really liked fast zombies.  I don't know what it was, but there was something very cool about a dead person that could sprint towards you with lightning quick speed (though, I thought "28 days later..." did a better job with the idea).

As for "TCM" '04, I was not expecting much... and I didn't get much.  Director Nispel needs to learn that the same jump-out-of-your-seat gag can not be used multiple times (by that, I mean the effect of having a shadow glide by the camera in the foreground while he characters group in the background... I swear, it was used eight times).

Look, a fast ZOMBIE is not a ZOMBIE. ARGENTO & LAMBERTO BAVA did this years ago with DEMONS 1 & 2, they are infact called DEMONS when they run, sneak, jump, and sprint.

I'm sorry... Dawn of the dead didn't have ZOMBIEs, they had Demons as far as it goes with me.

Very true... but, I do have to say perhaps that was what the filmakers were going for.  Though, before the release, the director tried to clear things up in an interview by stating that the reason they could be fast is because of riga-mortis had not fully taken effect, hence newer corpses could still be quite flexible.  To me, that was a mistake.  Instead, he should have said something along the lines of perhaps this was not a "downed sattelite," but demons from hell possessing the bodies of the dead (ala "The Rising," a fantastic (albeit talking zombie) book by Brian Keene).  Screw logic- it's a zombie pic!  As for "28 days later..." (though a zombie flick to me), I tend to think of the Infected as mutants.

As for best true undead flick... I'm torn between "Dawn of the Dead" '78 and "Zombi 2" (aka "Zombie").  Christ, I cannot wait for either of these special edition DVD's!  The 2-disc set of "Zombi 2" comes out in two weeks while the 4-disc set of "Dawn" is due September 7th (a real shame considering I purchased the "Special Edition" released in March... oh, well... hell hath no fury like a studio releasing two DVD editions of the same movie in less than six months of each other).

Speaking of which (I know this is terribly off topic), but to those whom enjoyed "Hellboy" and like their DVD's in the best possible edition, put off buying the 2-disc edition being released on July 27th- a 3-disc set is scheduled for early November.

And, on that note:

FUCK SCREEN GEMS FOR RELEASING A 2-DISC SET OF "UNDERWORLD" WITHIN FOUR FUCKING MONTHS OF THE ORIGINAL DVD... FUCK THEM UP THEIR STUPID ASSES!

At least with "Resident Evil," they waited a year or two (the Ultimate Edition is due September 7th).

Finally, baltis, what are your thoughts on "Day of the Dead: Contagium?"  To me, it looks almost "House of the Dead" bad.
