What is it and how do I get it?  I feel so left out.
Posted by: Reed Enwright, September 3rd, 2004, 8:59pm; Reply: 1
Yeah, I just noticed that too. It's new. To get a reputation other members have to go to your profile and give a + or - to increase or decrease your rep. I'm curious to see how this new feature works out.

There you go Reed I helped you out haha
Posted by: Don, September 3rd, 2004, 10:52pm; Reply: 3
I thought that feature would be useful.  You can't affect your own reputation.  And, you can only increase by one increment or decrease by one increment someone else's reputation.  One individual can not decrease or increase another's reputation by more than one increment ever.  It might be useful.

Yay, I'm 100%!.....of what?

Don  - it's good to know this feature can't be abused.
Posted by: Don, September 3rd, 2004, 11:04pm; Reply: 5
It sort of can be abused.   If you get one vote positive, it raises your rep to 100%.  However, if the second vote is negative, it decreases your vote to 50%.  A positive vote after that will only bring you up to 75%.  So, in other words, the more people vote for or against you, the smaller the incremental increase or decrease.  So, if and individual has no votes and someone votes them down, they go to zero% if they are voted up, they go to 100%.  However, the second vote or third vote will not have as much impact.

However, don't get too obsessed with your reputation.  I've seen boards that have been using this for quite some time.  Even the moderator of the board has a reputation of only 80%...

Oh, I see. I wouldn't consider that abuse, though. It's just that as more votes are cast, each vote represents a smaller percentage of the whole. Dig?
Posted by: TomSouth, September 4th, 2004, 10:38am; Reply: 7
Thank you to whoever voted for me!

I think this idea is good, because it tells new members who to be friends with and who to stay away from.  Only good can come from this.
Posted by: lesleyjl21, September 4th, 2004, 4:59pm; Reply: 8
I think it's awesome.  So do we just all start out at a hundred percent by default or something?
Posted by: Reed Enwright, September 4th, 2004, 5:11pm; Reply: 9
Somebody has to vote for you at least once to get 100%, otherwise you just have N/A in your profile.
Posted by: lesleyjl21, September 4th, 2004, 5:13pm; Reply: 10
Fun stuff.  Thanks. :)
Posted by: Hypnos, September 10th, 2004, 1:33pm; Reply: 11
Well I went down to 50% (Thanks to whoever). Didn't think I pissed anyone off actually, I only help out.

Is there any way to turn this off? Because frankly I dont want people not reading my scripts or reviews because some loner gave me a bad score.

Nobody cares.
Posted by: Hypnos, September 10th, 2004, 5:41pm; Reply: 13
That's one way to look at it.

And it seems someone lightened the burden.

i would also like to take the opportunity to thank those whoever took the time to give me a reputation.  i could make a joke about finally acquiring one, but uh...i'll save that for another occasion.

thank you those people:P

hahaha I take pride in my reputation

someone give me a leather jacket and a carton of marlboro reds hahaha

It's turned into a popularity contest, if you review something in a bad way the writer will take your reputation down. If you tell them what they want to hear they'll do nothing but that was happening before this was added so who knows

Posted by: Glass (Guest), September 14th, 2004, 12:54pm; Reply: 17
I am inclined to agree ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ << "look Marla, another elipse"

I got my rep lowered for saying that I didn't care for the new Punisher and liked the old Punisher better.

I got my rep lowered another time for mixing up two letters in someones name... That was deserving.

Oh well, it really doesn't reflect on the matter at hand and that's the bad thing.  I love the rep thing, I just wish it would be more effective with writing and not popularity.
Posted by: Old Time Wesley, September 14th, 2004, 1:01pm; Reply: 18
Well if it means anything I haven't voted for you, only a couple people have gotten a good vote from me. I don't think I've given any negatives

I am trying to use them as they were meant, to bad it didn't tell you who votes for you than people would have to answer for there childishness

Again it's not like I wouldn't read a screenplay by you solely based on your reputation, really reading something shouldn't be attributed to the writer but the screenplay itself

We could be enemies and tried to kill each other before and I'd still read your screenplay if it was interesting
Posted by: Glass (Guest), September 14th, 2004, 1:05pm; Reply: 19
And that's the way it should be.  To bad a lot of folks here aren't like that.
Posted by: EsKayEye, September 14th, 2004, 2:01pm; Reply: 20
I personally was enjoying my horrible rep but someone went and increased me
Posted by: Glass (Guest), September 14th, 2004, 3:36pm; Reply: 21
LOL!  Yeah, bad reps are cool when you think about it.  It gives newer members some like... looking power.  They'll pass the 100% guys up as vets of the boards, though when they see the 60, 50 and 30% guys they'll be like: Better stay clear of them boys, we might get into some trouble if hang around 'em.

I'll lower yours if you lower mine  ;)
Posted by: sheepdogg_plankton (Guest), September 14th, 2004, 8:29pm; Reply: 22
Is there a way to see who has increased and decrease your reputation?  Hmm, maybe I should come out and say it, who decreased mine to an eighty?  No hard feeling, just out of curiousity.
Posted by: Glass (Guest), September 14th, 2004, 8:32pm; Reply: 23
I gave ya a +

I think it'd be cool though to have it to where we could see who jacked with us.  That way everyone would run around here looking even.

You lowerd my rep -- I'll lower yours

You raised my rep -- I'll raise yours

You lowerd my rep -- I'll take away the plus I gave you in the 1st place

I can see it now... a board of war and mayhem.
Posted by: Glass (Guest), September 14th, 2004, 8:39pm; Reply: 24
But see, just like that... someone went and lowered my rep to 60%

For what? Who knows... It's kinda silly, but fun at the same time.  It's almost as if you go looking for the folks who marked ya down, just for some answers as to why.

I think the marks should be legit.  I don't think you should give'em just to give'em... I think maybe with the plus and the minus we should have a little spot to where we can write as to why we are doing it.

So then we can see who all votes for and against you and later if someone changes their opinion of you, they can increase or decrease it as normal, but with a reason backing it.

I mean, it's just silly right now.  You lowered me! I'll lower you then... whatever.
Posted by: TheParadoxicalShaman, September 15th, 2004, 1:46pm; Reply: 25
lowering and highering..haha
neways...it's impossible to exist here with an opinion without having less than 100%.

somebody isn't gonna agree with you, no matter what you do.  the mediators are generally those that suffer the greatest.

*sigh

Posted by: Antemasque, September 18th, 2004, 10:35am; Reply: 27
Lol. I think this is a interesting idea. And it should tell ya who does it that way you can go to the person and say "Excuse me kind Sir. Why did you vote negative on me?"
Posted by: TheParadoxicalShaman, September 18th, 2004, 1:47pm; Reply: 28
well i think anonymity was the actual purpose of the whole thing hahha
Posted by: dogglebe (Guest), November 4th, 2004, 3:15pm; Reply: 29
I was wondering what the reputation thing was and am hoping to get some votes here.  Come on people.  I'm posting and reviewing scripyts.  That should be worth something.

I hate to tell you this but people don't owe you anything for reading there scripts, and than there's the part where some will lower your rep when you give them a bad review so I'd be careful what you ask for
Posted by: dogglebe (Guest), November 4th, 2004, 7:23pm; Reply: 31
I know no one is obligated to read a script, but if someone loads up five or six scripts but doesn't read anything, eventually no one will read his scripts.

Too bad thtere's no way to see how many scripts someone had read.

I'm probably getting up in the high number for reading them myself but it seems just today my rep went down to 75%  I guess that's what you get for saying what's on your mind and people just can't take it, I have yet to use more than 5 reputation clicks so I will keep mine and not waste them like some do for no reason than to just give themselves a giggle

If you look people at 100% rep barely ever say anything or when they do are playing it safe and than there are others like myself who take one for the team when everyone else is being conservative
Posted by: Balt (Guest), November 5th, 2004, 1:43am; Reply: 33
Yeah, Reputation is funny here... really.  I mean, I think I'm one of the more vocale about saying what I feel and what I mean and well... my rep is very accurate of that, lol.

I've got few fans here and that's actually a good thing... Too many and then my door get's knocked on... People follow me to the gym... I get calls all night long and e-mails of naked women... "did I just say that out loud?"  I mean, when's it end?  War what's it good for?

In my opinion, the lower the rep, the more truth's you've told. I see folks running around with a 100% rep and I kinda laugh a bit.

Balt~

Wes, it's cool... I know we don't see eye to eye on every issue, but yeah I see where you're coming from.  I also used my like 4th click just now to raise yours but it didn't go up much... go figure?
Posted by: Old Time Wesley, November 5th, 2004, 1:53am; Reply: 34
I think I only used it for Don and someone who said nobody raises mine so I did for them and said there, I basically know who lowered mine, it doesn't take a genius to figure out who. (Looks at you) I know who you are and some day soon I'll get you

Anyways Balt, I finished reading that script I mentioned and now, well in the morning I'll begin readin the one you mentioned in which I already have saved in order to read

I do hope it's as good as the one I finished today because it was my top 2 favorite ever in the script department, I've been pleasently surprised by my selection of screenplays not having read one horrible one at least this year.

Last horrible script I read I started to cry from it's horrendous state and than I realized it was mine and felt stupid and than cried some more and than I came here and I was happy again

haahah....what a funny story.  and a sad story.
but yeah, i think we can all agree that reputation has added a new variable to the game.
personally i forget about them nowadays. then i'm like...whoa!!  mine hasn't changed in a long time.

i need to say more:P ahahahhah

Posted by: Old Time Wesley, December 11th, 2004, 4:37pm; Reply: 37
I think you could raise and or lower everybodies rep once
Posted by: Hypnos, December 12th, 2004, 3:35pm; Reply: 38
I think reputation is more an accurate indicator of the fact that you can format your opinions ( whether negatively or positively) in a positive way, with enough constructive critisim,
Posted by: Old Time Wesley, December 12th, 2004, 3:45pm; Reply: 39
I think it reflects badly on the members when someone that is a proven writer has a very low rep because he's opinionated and someone who is a lower level writer has 100 because he kisses ass

I wont mention names but you know who you are
Posted by: Old Time Wesley, December 12th, 2004, 6:34pm; Reply: 40
Of course not you
Posted by: Higgonaitor, December 12th, 2004, 9:52pm; Reply: 41
I think its coolest having no rep, because then your like, distant, and uh . . . mysterious . . . .
Posted by: Balt (Guest), December 12th, 2004, 10:36pm; Reply: 42
My rep only bothers me if it reflects on me as a person... I can asure each and everyone here that even though many do not like me or even the sign of one of my mundane post in there thread, I'm really not at all a bad or dislikeable << is that even a word???, LOL >>  person. I'm not.

I may come off a bit extreme and offish at times, however, it's only because I'm very direct and to the point... it's not that I wish to hurt anyones feelings or break them down in anyway at all.

Also, my rep kinda bothers me in 1 other area... it does and I'd be lying if I said it didn't... When folks look at rep, many think "Bad writer" "not at all positive poster" um... "dick head" and many other things to be sure... While some of them might be true,LOL, I do believe in my work as a horror writer... I do.  I'm not better than anyone and I'm not saying my work eclipses anyone persons here, however, it does have merrit to stand on its own apart from everyone else's work here, I do believe this.

So, yeah, in a way the rep thing is damaging... you post positive, you're gonna have a good rep... you post negative you're gonna have a bad rep... you post truthfully and who the hell knows what you're gonna have for a rep.  It depends on what side of the mirror you and the other person both stand on.

It's like selling gasoline to firemen as they run into a buring building or selling lemondade to 6 and 7 year olds... The end result won't be a good one.  ;)

That's where I stand on the whole thing... Don't mind the man behind the curtain, he's often stoopid, often makes no sense and often makes bad moves to counter act the good ones, cause he often thinks the water is warm til he discovers how deep it really is in here... Water fills my lunges like tripoli spring loaded cannon's.

C.K.

Good thoughts to all and to all a goodnite >> a little christmas cheer from your local jewish poster, that in its self is irony of the best kind, LOL!  A jew who celebrates christmas too... "scratches head" Ah, forget everything I've just said  ;)

I can say your screenplays are in the quality margin and deserve a Walter or even one of those real awards that they give to best screenplay or writer, something like that

Contrary to what others may want you to believe there are good screenplays and or series on this web site, all of those threads about lacking screenplays.

I can understand why your rep went down Balt, I believe people still hated you from your first stay. If it were solely based on talent you'd be at 100%, no doubt but it's not.

Posted by: Balt (Guest), December 14th, 2004, 9:53am; Reply: 44
Well so nice of you to be so subtle about it Wes, LOL!  ;)

I'm sure a good number of them still do hate me, LOL!  Thanks for the compliment though, means a lot when you got a supporter in your corner.

Save a corner for me!

Seriously though, this reputation thing is really not very accurate - too many people vote who know nothing about you or can take offense to things said too easily.... it just isn't worth the time of day worrying about how you will be perceived...

- yeah, sure, if mine went down, I would be thinking, '...huh, wonder who lowered it and why?' but at the end of the day, it's just a number and well, no biggie.

The kind of people who are put off by someone's rep to even go on to read their script, are probably not the type of readers you want anyway.......open minds everyone.... :o

I love your work CK, can't wait to finish Coffin Canynon, loving it so far! Also really loved 'Lady in the Window' - go read it if you haven't..........
