I see that this board now has 900 members, which is pretty amazing, but here's the problem: nearly 600 of them have never, ever posted! If you include those who have posted 3 or fewer times that number jumps to almost 800.

Here's my point: Don't you (the plural you, not just Don) think it's time for an inactive member purge? It's obvious that at least 500 of those people never intend to be active. It just seems a little dishonest (though not intentionally) to claim to have 900 members when fewer than 100 make any effort to post on a regular basis. Perhaps any "member" that hasn't posted in the last 3 or 4 months should just be dumped. They probably wouldn't even notice.

Now I'm not suggesting that members who post infrequently should be booted, just those who registered then never came back.

What do you all think?

I know why most of them do it, they get there script up and join in hopes somebody will read it but in all reality well at least the one we live in that never happens

I try my hardest to read the ones nobody else has read but it's hard to send the person whose script it is a pm about the script when they don't post saying hey this is mine

I don't want to become one of those people who hurt others for fun so I will give bad reviews through pm

But in reality most times that writer doesn't even answer when you try and reach out to them, I think in a effort to make it a lot easier to read screenplays by people who want the feedback we should outcast the ones who are only here to bash others, the ones who post there scripts and dont want to read any, and a few more

Just ignore those types of people and than all the people who care about someone other than themselves can get better and make this a lot better for all involved

I totally agree that far too many people send scripts to Don to be posted then never make any effort to be active on the board. I suppose that's why there aren't more serious reviews here. I mean, why bother to read and review a script if the author isn't going to be around to see the review?

You're right, the non-posters aren't hurting anybody, but they're sure as hell not helping either.

What's the point of having 900 members when 90% of them aren't really members at all, just names on a list? They registered for some reason (maybe to post a script, maybe not) but they have abandoned the board, so just get rid of them.

I know a while back Don did do a major purge, we were down to only a couple of hundred members as I recall. Every other board I'm a member of faces the same thing. People register and then never post anything. Eventually I'm sure he'll clear it out again, but it'll just build right back up.

I know it's a problem on all boards. And yes, it'll just build back up, but I think the time has come for a major purge again. I know Don is busy, I'm sure he'll get around to it, I just thought I should bring it up before we get to 1000 members.

It's not going to hurt anybody, it is possible to read posts on the board without being a registered member.

I do, periodically, purge out the non-posting names.  It is very cumbersome to do, tho.  I need to go in and print out the registery so that I know when the non-poster registered and I have to manually type in their username to clear them out.

I stopped posting on gamefaqs for a very long time because there was just nothing to say and thankfully they never deleted my account, I was inactive for at least a year

Sure, a lack of anything to add to the conversation keeps a lot of people from posting. Myself included, I'm not really a very active poster.

Of course, as I stated before, you don't have to be a registered member to read the board. I don't think an inactive member purge (that Don has done already) is really going to inconvenience anyone. That leads me to wonder how many regular lurkers we have here. Probably quite a few. I lurked on the Done Deal board for a long time without posting, that was before I found this board.

Did you just notice that today? Don cut it down to 350 the day I first mentioned a member purge. I think it's a good thing, those people were never likely to come back.  I don't think any of them were really trolls though. More like 'strolls', they strolled through the board, wandered away and never returned.

I usually don't look at something unless someone mentions it or I do and than just think nothing of it, for some reason today I noticed it and it stuck with me

I think a number of these people just want someone to read thteir scripts and sing praise about it.  They don't have any intention of reading other people's work.  And when no one reads it (for whatever reason), they disappear.

Exactly.  My favorite email is "My script has been up for a month and no one reviewed it."  Users do not realize that there is give and take on the site.  If you review other's work, then they will review yours.

Actually that's not the case, people whose work you read doesn't really mean they have to read yours or will

That's like quilting them into it, I just read stuff and when I come out with something new if nobody reads it I just deal with it and move on
