This is going to be short...

The first review I wrote for this site was for the DVD of "DareDevil."  At the time, I had given it a *1/2 rating, citing that the film just tried too hard and was loaded with entirely too many one-liners.  Well, I am now convinced that the format of DVD is a magical thing that deserves to be cherished.  First "Alien 3," and now "DareDevil"...

Thirty minutes longer, un-edited diaglogue, and a darker tone (literally- just compare the color on the two DVD versions) make for a better movie.  I am now convinced that this R-rated film is the way we where meant to see one of my favorite super heroes, and a man who used to be one of my most hated of directors, Mark Stephen Johnson, has now gained a whole new respect for himself.

The one-liners are still present, but... who care!?  All I know is that at the end of this one, I actually felt the goose flesh on my arms when I saw Murdock beat the crap out of Fisk; something that was cut-and-dry is now deep and meaningful... and just oh so much juicier.  While not as good as even the first Spider-Man film, it certainly holds up much better then either the mediocre Hulk movie or the despicable Punisher flick.

Does this mean we will see the R-Rated "AVP" I so desperately want to see from Anderson?

While director Johnson provides another enertaining commentary track (this time with uber-Marvel producer Avi Arad), it is a shame that we gain a better film... but lose the bonus features from the first (that's the loss of a whole second disc).  Still, we do get a new documentary, this time on the making of the Director's Cut.  But, like I said, the new-and-improved "DareDevil" more than makes up for the less-than-adequate special features.

Isn't that what you want from these characters tho? If they started going off into rants and dramatic sequences you'd feel like you was watching Dawson's Creek (Not that that's a bad thing) when you want to watch Daredevil kick some ass in his red spandex

The only reason I enjoyed the original film is because I like Affleck's acting, it's bad at times and even he makes fun of himself for it but that's kinda what makes him better

So would you recommend this over the first one or would you say it's so much better that you should just go out and spend the money just this once?

If you enjoyed the first one than, yes, most defiantly pick this one up.  If you didn't like the original so much, than at least rent this one.

I have yet to see the DD Director's Cut.  I'm the only one out of my group of friends that liked the original version of the film, but the entire time I was watching it I could tell that something was missing.  Look forward to picking up the Director's Cut and giving it a spin.  

It's a bare bones disc, but the extra 30 minutes more than pays off and makes this movie 10 times better.

Yeah, so I finally bought this dvd going off of your review syco and I think it's 50% better than the other one. The other has more special features but the film itself is just that much better

And not just because I like Coolio and Kevin Smith. Even the director said the other one had no story, when the director says that you begin to wonder why not bring this out in the beginning. Than you realize it's all about money and well I get it, the only thing about this is that it's not full priced since it is a rerelease

They will completely ruin it without Ben Affleck because they get into the Batman realm by changing the main guy each time, Affleck would rather do bad comedy drama films that make little or no money when he could continue to do Daredevil and Sum of All Fears type films that rake in the cash

So what's next on your review list syco? AVP? Anyways I'll probably read them, even when you hate the film you actually somehow make it look better

I am going to give the "AVP" Director's Cut a spin (my review of the movie can be found on the Movie Review page).  Supposedly, the DVD is to include both the PG-13 and R versions.  So, I guess I'll just have to wait and see (though, I'm not hopeful).

You mean the version in theatres of AVP that i never seen was pg-13? How could it be pg-13 if that's true? If it's not bloody and violent it's a teen film, which is I guess more of an audience if you want money like they probably do
