It is starting to become maybe one of the biggest lies ever for a movie rumor. According to Varity, Microsoft reportedly signed Alex Garland to a $1 Million Dollar deal to write the screenplay for a Halo Movie. Then they would sell the rights & the screenplay as a package deal but the report stated that Microsoft never officially made it official. So, could this Halo Movie been a lie just to keep up the Halo hype?

lets hope so. i hope a halo movie never reaches the light of day. I despise XBox but love this game, and by making a movie out of such a good game its bound to be bad.

Unfortunately I'd give it a year or two before they announce a "Halo" movie.
With the success of the game, it's pretty much bound to happen.

I think the games are repetitive pieces of s*** and they need to quit making games like that. There are like 100,000 wars games in first person which makes Halo another war game just not set in vietnam.

I enjoy Halo and part 2 for about 2 hours and than it becomes what it was meant to be... Garbage.

As I've said the film if not in animation will suck badly because nobody wants to see any more cgi fests especially a stupid war film.

There is going to be a movie. I found the news on some upcoming movie website. Plus with the major sales still going up with Halo 2, the movie rumor is becoming reality. Those of you who have beat the game, all know that a Halo 3 will be hitting stores in 2006 or 2007, so most likley we will see a movie by at least by summer of 2006.

....I love the Zelda game on N64. And actually without the Halo series and Doom 3 X-box really sucks. Playstation 2 has much better games and the Gamecube is going to at least release a (hopefully) decent Zelda game on the Gamecube (Wind Waker was crappy.).

I love Halo as well but without it the X-box would still be considered the loser out of the 3. I've found myself buying more PS2 games then X-box games just becaus ePlaystation 2 only game titles are better then X-box only titles ( with the exception of Halo of course)

But anyways....I give a one thumb up to the idea of a Halo movie if done right. But I would rather see Mega Man hit the big screen before Halo...

Halo has a pretty basic storyline, it could be done as a movie. But I don't know anyone who was sold by its single player campaign. And if the movie is bad, which I'd expect it to be, it couldn't possibly be good for sales, at least not good enough to justify the money needed to make this.

Nintendo has a new Zelda game called Twilight Princess (I think) that is to come out later this year on the Gamecube. Its graphics are sooooooooooo much better than the cell shade mess that was Windwaker (despite its decent playability).

I have always preferred the Gamecube over the over two systems for one HUGE reason. Can you guess it? NO LOAD SCREENS! Not on the games made by Nintendo. Metroid doesn't have 'em. Mario doesn't have 'em. Zelda doesn't have 'em. That and I've been a Nintendo Loyalist since I got my first 8-bit system back in 1986. There are load screens on non-Nintendo produced games such as 007 and Mortal Kombat (those games that are also on Xbox and PS(fill in the number)), but not on Nintendo's own.

I played a PS1 for about 30 minutes once. I hated it because of those load screens. Sure it pays audio CD's but I have a CD player...why do I need another one? Sure Xbox and PS2 play DVD's, but I already have a DVD player. I bought a game system to play games on.

Anyway, I digress. As for another movie based on a video game? Usually a huge mistake. Video games are stories that focus on one character...you. You are to go through this whole storyline usually alone speaking to few people. The storyline usually lasts as long as a TV Season. A movie moves quicker, has more dramatic elements, has more characters, has subplots that focus on the tension between the characters, among other things. Name a movie based on a video game that was good...I mean really good.

Resident Evil? Nope.
Tomb Raider? Nope.
Super Mario Brothers? Good effort, but nope.

It's gonna happen eventually and with Alex Garland onboard as well as the rumored involvement of Ridley Scott (as a possible producer or director), I couldn't be happier.  And here's to Microsoft and Bungie for not simply selling their license off to the highest bidder but instead making their own script as well as a "bible" for the studios to follow.  Again, I realize I am not the majority here, but I am very happy with how this one is going.

I enjoy Halo 2 on X Box live but people cheat and the campaign but I don't see a film satisfying fanboys, personally I'd probably go see it anyway but as long as they are not giving it away like Bloodrayne and a few others have to a certain dildo I'm fine with it.

There's actually a qoute out there from one of the head guys at Bungie saying that there is no way on Earth that Uwe Boll will ever be allowed near this film.

I only go by what others say about Uwe Boll, I personally have never had to watch one of his films. But I generally like bad films (Resident Evil, Bride of Chucky and so on) Maybe I would like his films but they just don't appeal to me.

Halo should be an animated film, anyone see the new Final Fantasy film? This one looks beautiful and had a 9.0 on imdb last time I checked. It's got Cloud from FF7 in it for you fanboys out their ha-ha

I want to watch more animated films because they seem to have a better chance of not failing, Resident Evil would have made an awesome animated film. No limits, probably cheaper and a lot more risks would be taken to make it more like the game and entertaining to everyone.

Not to mention that the CG animation that would undoubtedly be used would appeal to the fan boys because it would like watching the game, since the same basic technology is used to make the wonderful, pretty graphics in the games.

Yeah, though I think a lot of film makers stay away from animated films because the general thought by people is animation equals childrens movie so they think it could hurt the product in the long run.

Probably a dumb thing but that could be it, we still have Matt and Trey, they hate working with actors and every few years they make a film.

I think it's a shame that people do think that animation equals kids' movie. So much can be done with the medium and has been done for that matter. After all, most of the Star Wars movies was animated. If properly marketed and produced, the product can stand on its own. But I know producers are leery of trying anything new.

Eric Cartmen could be Master Chief but how would he fit in the suit? Hmm... That's a thought but I won't say anymore because somebody might actually get an idea and think about writing South Park mixed with Halo ha-ha.

Though maybe they couldn't do Halo, they could do more than 1 film every couple years. They can write really well in such a short time and animate them as well so I doubt they'd have much trouble making more films if they wanted.

This new Final Fantasy film looks really promising so let's cross our collective fingers, it's already out in some places I believe but not in North America.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children it's got a 9.1 on imdb and that's saying something. It'll probably go down when it comes to NA but I hope they at least make people in HWood say "Hmm... We need to take this medium and kill it like we did horror."

If the Final Fantasy film does well, we'll probably be inundated with animated video game films pushing Halo right to the top. That's okay. I borrowed the game for a while, but then whle playing it, I realized I never finished my first 007 game for the Cube and went back to it. Haven't gone back to Halo since.

The people at Microsoft are going for an online audience, pay 100 bucks a year and you can have a great time, if not we give you this bland boring single player mission to tide you over till you get with the times.

So, I got online, and now I only buy and sell cars on Forza Motorsport because people cheat on Halo 2.It's ironic but not really, man I really need some better things to do with my time.

I played Halo 2 online with a friend of mine, so we had to go guest. Still, dear Lord, it's insane! I have been playing video games since 1982 and I can't compete. Some of the people on there must do nothing but wait for some poor sap like me to sign on to kick butt on it. Every single time I play, I get stomped!

I don't bother with online gaming. I find that I do too many other things to specialize at one game. I am happy with my one player missions on my Gamecube. I don't believe I'll be needing the Xbox online gaming experience. Of course, I do kinda want to get those Star Wars games that Lucas won't release on the Gamecube...

Yeah, there is a film in the works. Microsoft has indeed confirmed that. I just heard this on CNBC. Who's making it is still unknown, though. But a film is in the works.

Woohoo, I think I beat you guys to it! Universal and Fox are going in on this one.

Well, I have both of the Halo games on Xbox and it is, honestly, so freakin' awesome. FPS-wise, it is beyond awesome. As a movie, it could be utterly cool, man. If done right, that is. As for a director, I'd go with... Sam Mendes or Robert Rodgruiez -- since he has a big thing for CGI stuff, which is cool. Or anyone who's good and knows what they're doing. Hopefully, it don't turn out to be a huge flop....

Latino Review, who tends to be very good at getting their hands on scripts for big name movies early, has snagged a copy of Alex Garland's "Halo" screenplay.  The bad news is nothing.  The good news, is that it is apparently incredible.  It is given a 5/5 star review and described as the "'Saving Private Ryan' of video-game movies."  Wow.

Now, I know that there have been many great scripts that got so caught up in studio politics that they have produced mediocre movies.  But with Peter Jackson on board as exec producer, I have very high hopes for this.    

Why? Peter Jackson is a jerk off. He's such a complete ass monkey. Peter Jackson is clammering to get his hands on any property that he can for a buck. He's ruined the LOTR's series... He's crippled King Kong to all hell. He's now working on making a video game to movie adaptation, which we all know is gonna suck in the end... all video games suck when going into a movie... and all movies suck when going into a video game... They can't be crossed over. They just can't.

A game's story is second to actions.
A movies story is second to nothing else.

Trying to gap the two is impossible.

Back to Jackson, though. KING KONG was an APE MAN... he wasn't a giant gorrilla. I hate the new Kong. He's not even as big. He's absurd looking. I really hope this movie bombs and Jackson looses all his stock in Hollywood.

Truth be told... the only movie he ever did that was good was BRAIN DEAD and maybe MEET THE FEEBLES "which wasn't all that good" I did like the 1st LOTR's it was decent... the other two just drug on and on and had nothing going for them.

Peter Jackson is a second rate George Lucass to me.

Have to disagree with you here Balt. I think Peter Jackson did what no other producer/director could have down with Tolkien's work. Honestly. His vision and craft brought the LOTR trilogy to the point where it's brilliant. To say he's a poor man's Lucas is a bit naive. You can't judge them unless they both switched roles and produced each other's movies. In my opinion, if you judge both the Star Wars trilogy and the LOTR trilogy, then Jackson comes on top...just. I'll give Lucas thumbs up for creating the universe of Star Wars and for Episode III which was great. But what Jackson and his writers did for the Tolkien series is indisputable. He didn't squander a mass of money on a Hollywood blitz, he created a truely believeable world. Turning New Zealand into Middle Earth itself.

Of course, these are all opinions. I can't comment on King Kong, and I'm not a fan of the previous movies.  I have enjoyed previous works by Jackson (Heavenly Creatures, Brain Dead, Frighteners) and I'll think he'll create a good Halo movie that will sweep the box office when it opens (and will be a pretty darn good movie too).

I think you guys are getting caught up in a lot of hype... Scripts are always good but when filmed things change, ask the Saw director how much his film changed because of budget.

I hope like you guys that halo turns out special but I can't help but think since Pete is only a producer that whoever directs may screw it up as Scorsese was Producer on a few terrible films and he's hailed as a legend in the business so I doubt as producer it matter to anyone.

Why not just let Pete direct it? After Kong this month he's got an open schedule I believe.

It wouldn't surprise me if Pete decides to direct it...unless he's got "The Hobbit" up under his sleave...

Peter Jackson's next movie is something completely different: it is based on a novel called "Lonely Bones" I believe, and is about a young, teenage girl that is raped and murdered by her neighbor and then narrates the events of her killer being caught from heaven.  No, if there is one man to do the job, I would agree with what was written in the Latino Review article: James Cameron.  It would almost be like Cameron directing a sequel to "Aliens," except with enough things changed to stand out as its own film.  Another idea I heard from a friend of mine was why not have Garland re-team with "28 days later..." director Danny Boyle?  He brought such a ferocity to "28 days," that I'm sure he could do wonders with a "Halo" movie.

Indeed I do not want a movie made about Halo, at all!!!   But the bible thingy from Bungie makes me wonder if it will be the turning point in Game Movies.  It seems to me that Companies just sell off their Game's Name and Characters to be put together by some guy who has never played the game to become a huge ball of flaming crap!  If I made a game that was good and made money, it would become my baby.  Therefor if Microsoft was to sell my baby off to be made into a movie, I would write a HUGE bible for the Film makers to follow, I would be on set everyday to make sure my baby wasn't made into a Huge Flaming Ball of Crap!  The game makers need to be more involved!  That is the key to make a good Game Movie!

Some bad news. JoBlo reports that in a recent interview with GameSetWatch, novelist/screenwriter DB Weiss confirmed he has just been hired to pen "an entirely new second draft" of the film, Garland's script looking like it has been dumped.

The director has officially been announced by Universal Pictures. Neill Blomkamp will direct the Halo motion picture.

He is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and original artists currently working in short films and commercial advertising.

I have a feeling that this film will be run more by the producers than the director.  I think the director is only going to be there in name, because I can't see this guy having the final word over Peter Jackson.

So I think it will be more like a Peter Jackson film than this new guy.

That's probably why a bunch of directors dropped out because the producers were the ones running the show.

Yeah, i really don't see a point to adapting Halo at this point. I do love the game but i dont play it for the solid story if you get my meaning.

I think its just for making money off of a very popular game. It's obviously just going to be a non-stop action flick... which I don't mind because I love to sit and watch a good action flick... as long as it has a bit of a storyline that is feasible (in a way). The only thing I'm worried about is the grunts... they were a little stupid and funny, which made the game, for me, a little less serious. Meaning the film will be less serious to me.

It is possible to have a decent adaptation of this game. Someone on these boards wrote one once, and I remember reading it. It was pretty good, had some decent plotting and character and all the good stuff. I think he may have taken it down, since I can't find it anywhere. He based it off the game and some books that were based around the game.

I remember that too. I read it... written by a member called Another Writer if I'm not mistaken. He hasn't been around for a good while now though. His adaptation was brilliant in my eyes. Something I wouldn't mind to have seen in the cinema as Halo The Movie... it's a shame if he's taken it down.

Despite the participation of executive producer Peter Jackson, Fox and Universal have pulled the plug on the funding for the videogame-to-movie adaptation of XBox mainstay "Halo."

According to Ken Kamins, Peter Jackson's agent, "What happened was this: Universal, on behalf of both studios, asked for a meeting with the filmmakers just prior to the due date of a significant payment. Basically, they said that in order to move forward with the film, the filmmakers had to significantly reduce their deals. They waited until the last minute to have this conversation. Peter and Fran, after speaking with their producing partners and with Microsoft and Bungee (the studio that designed the original game), respectfully declined."

So no go for "Halo."

Nevermind. Still, I'm pretty sure there'll be a studio that'll sign on Halo. It's big money that can't be missed. Personally, I hope it happens... it's probable that it's gonna happen sometime, whether it be after the third, forth or tenth instalment of the game.

Looks like the Halo movie has been officially halted. Peter Jackson and Microsoft's WingNut Films has released the following statement saying that production has halted:
