I just say this.

I am making this post to warn all of you. This was the most horrible movie of the year. Son of the mask is better then this crap. An Uwe Boll movie is better then this crap.
I'll tell you what went wrong.

SPOILERS


1) This was advertised as a horror movie. It was not horror. It was nothing. Un-scary.
2) Acting was good and was a little stiff at parts.
3) Boring. Seriously i know a movie sets up in the first half hour ill say. But nothing that could be considered 'exciting' happened until the last 5 minutes.
4) A mystery? Going to this movie because it looked like a mystery? There is nothing to solve. Trust me.
5) WATER!?!?!?!?! Wtf. The preview had water pooring from the walls i believe. The movie did not.
6) I dont think the actors knew what was going on.
7) Here is a summary of the movie.

they buy a hotel
water is leaking
after about an hour of telling the janitor to fix it he does
people are heard upstairs for a good 20mins
daughter has imaginary friend
mother doesnt like
mother check room. it is flooded.
memories or her being abused by mother
found out girl is dead in water tower
mother dies in hotel place
and daughter lives with dad

Though I did not personally see this, let's not say things we can't take back.

I've been hearing things like "If you go into it expecting a horror film you will be disappointed as it wasn't advertised correctly. If you go into suspecting a suspenseful drama, you'll like it" etc. Are you sure you're not being a LITTLE harsh? You pointed out that it's NOT scary because it's NOT a horror film. Well yes you can blame the advertising campaign for that, but not the film itself. I've heard people praising the performances, especially Jennifer's.

I'm still undecided about whether or not to watch it when it comes out in the UK (next week or something I think).

The acting was the only good thing in it.
If i went in for a drama i would also be disppointed.
I think the movie was a useless piece of crap.
You couldn't even laugh at how stupid it was.

That sounds diappointing, the original japanese Dark Water was good. Tell em, did it have the scene where the mother is next to the water tank and the cool random girl in a yellow coat trys to bash her way out?

WARNING - This is a completely mis-advertised film. What you see in trailers/TV spots for the most part are false. The scene where water is coming down all over the living room isn't there(but you can easily spot where it should've been), the ghostly "mirage" behind Dahlia in the elevator isn't here, and the creepy ghost hand reaching out of the water as she steps inside the flooded apartment is also not here. This is not a horror or a thriller. It is a psychological drama.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS  

 I just saw this today. I went into the theatre expecting a disappointment, but I instead found an interesting creepy drama. I liked it, due to the fact it could of easily been a "haunted house" type of film ie: Ring, Amityville, but went into a totally different and imaginative reality of its own.

 The story follows the unstable Dahlia who is in the middle of a custody battle over their six-year-old daughter Ceci. With her lack of money, she is practically forced to live in a run-down, crappy, ugly as hell apartment building on Roosevelt Island in Manhattan. While living there, Dahlia experiences her own inner demons/problems by rehashing memories of her forgetful and alcoholic mother.

 Jennifer Connelly is simply excellent in this and is possibly her best role. This is the first time I actually felt involved with a character and really felt her suffering. You can't help it but care for this woman because of her traumas and situation, and how she really IS a good mother.

 There are some creepy moments, but not much. Instead we get some good intense scenes, I personally found the scene where Dahlia learns that Kyle(her ex) has taken Ceci away and she goes home and throws a tantrum very disturbing and heart breaking. Also, the scene where Dahila "thinks" she is talking to her daughter, but...well I don't want to spoil it...very creepy and freaky as hell.

 There is a mystery to solve and that is the only supernatural element to this. It deals with Ceci's imaginary friend, Natasha. Is she real or is she not? You actually don't find out the whole truth to that story until the last 15 minutes.

 The ending is the only let-down of this film, it came too quick, and it tried to be to moving for me to like, but still...it's effective and it works. Overall, not that bad, like less than 3 plotholes, the one that REALLY gets me is the "burning of the elevator buttons" and where Kyle is talking to the punks, they should've made that more clearer.

 I'll say give this film a try, it's better than most of the films we've had lately, and I'm happily glad to say that, personally, I find this to be one of the best of the year.

Well we all have different opinions.
I thought it was boring and you thought it was good.

It was misadvertised really bad and will loose a lot of people. DVD sales i can bet wont be that good.

This just is not my kind of movie. I seriously thought it was terrible  and boring.

 I guess you can say it's one of those films you either hate it or you really like it, you can't simply just "like" this film, it has to be lesser or greater.

 I went with three others and only two of us really liked this. Yes, the misadvertising of the film did loose a lot of people, it only made about 9 million in its opening weekend. Damn Touchstone...

It truly was a wonderful film (i think)
but the advertising made it seem bad.

People that expect horror do not want character driven dramas.
