Movie rights are up for sale.

Gaming fans have long salivated over the prospect of a Metal Gear movie. And now it seems that the game's creator, Hideo Kojima, is joining in the anticipation.

Kojima has held tight to the movie rights for years, even after being courted by major studios, but he recently told entertainment industry mag Variety that he may finally be interested in selling the rights.

Kojima believes it's best if any film based on the Metal Gear series stands on its own, unrelated to any of the games' storylines. "Things one can express in a game are different of those in a movie," he says. "It would have to be a very different script, almost a different story."

I don't think other than the name anybody will care... Here are my thoughts an action film based on stealth... Hmmm oh wait it's been done before and many times. Metal Gear is a good game, don't ruin it with an average film.

Everything is up for sale these days. Start with dignity, artistic integrity and anything else that has to do with ones being. The game community and film alike are whores, they are no better than a person who sells themselves for cash.

Just my opinion and it may be harsh but the companies swallow for sure.

The games are fun and the 'Solid Snake' character's cool... But the stories are pretty ridiculous and would deffo need to be retooled for any film. If they tried pulling any 'possessed arm' sh*t they'd be laughed right out of the cinema.

Just to let you all know that they are ending the MGS series. That is what Kojima said in an interview, and I think it would make a great movie. I'm going to disagree and just say... It's make a kickass movie.

I've seen that preview, it was weird to say the least but very funny.

It kind of tells you Raiden might be back, you cannot hide from the bad guys and other stuff that might make it a different experience.

Once they see how poorly bloodrayne did in the box office Boll is not going to be able to do this. If he does do it i do really think a crazed metal gear fan will kill him. no joke.

Hell, I'll do it.

I actually wrote a script for this a few years back based off of The Twin Snakes. I ended up junking it, because if I had kept going at the rate I was going it would have been about four hours. What can I say, I have troubles cutting things down.

An update on the Uwe Boll rumors. He said that French scriptwriters approached him with the screenplay for Metal Gear Solid; however, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, who has confirmed that a Metal Gear movie is in the works, has vehemently denied Boll the rights to produce or direct the film. Details here

Finally an update from Variety.

It seems the films has gained some financial backing. Michael De Luca will produce the adaptation, with videogame creator Hideo Kojima as executive producer.
