My script Araucaria was Heat 7 Winner in the NYC Midnight 2005 Screenwriters challenge. :)

Phil (dogglebe) was second runner up with A Can of Worms. Congrats Phil, it must have been a close call.

I read thru the list of screenplay there, that won, and I gotta say 95% of them sounded pretty bad. I'm almost shocked at how bad they really sound.

The fishing one with the cajun dad
The doll one, where they destroy a plastic doll???

Those are laughable at best...

I do congratulate you, though... it's a great honor to be in the mix, I'm sure.

Der Spieler,
I have to say I don't respond to many of the scripts that I read...but I couldn't help myself. After seeing that you'd won the heat for your group in the contest I was interested in seeing what a "good" script looked like. This is probably the best written script on the site(from what I've read, anyways). Very, very solid work. I can't believe you've created such a piece with just fifteen pages! It appears you have a special talent for story telling. That is something most aspiring writers do not have and it is something one cannot learn. Keep up writing these intriguing pieces and you'll do well. I will definitely take time to read the rest of your work...

Less than 18 hours to go and I think I've had an idea for my script. I still haven't written FADE IN but I'm working out the details of a story.

Genre: Fantasy    Subject: Steps

I've never ever written fantasy. I hate fantasy! I even struggle to enjoy LOTR. This is going to be painful.

At the moment I think it's going to be a children's story. A hero's journey with a difference.

I'll probably submit it here when I'm done (if it's not too awful)

Sounds a lot easier than suspense/old record.

Children's story? Bah, who was I kidding?

12 hours remaining and I've scrapped my original idea after 4 pages. I've hit on something that I think could be great. I just hope I'm able to write it in time. It's gonna be a dark, nightmarish tale with maybe a touch of comedy.

What the hell are you doing haunting around here?

Get back to work and fill us in later!

But since you are here (maybe), don't limit yourself to "steps" as in a stairway.

Perhaps there could be something that requires a specific NUMBER of steps.

Like a magic spell, or a treasure map.

Woah. I submitted my completed script with over an hour to spare.

I now realise that 24 hours is an insanely short time to complete a screenplay. I mean, I knew it would be tough but, man, was it tough.

Anyway, I'm actually really happy with the way it turned out. It's a surreal and somewhat disturbing piece, possibly over-influenced by my lack of sleep.

It's called 'The Universe Explained?' and it's about a professor who thinks he has discovered the meaning of the universe.

I'll probably host it somewhere tomorrow if anyone's interested in reading it.

It's almost 5am here so I'm off to bed.

Okay, if anyone's interested, you can read my script here: Link

The Universe Explained?

Professor Douglas Quinn has discovered to true meaning of the universe and all that it entails. He's about to reveal his secret to the world... or is he?

I'm happy with it but obviously it could have been better given more time.

Anyway, hope you like it.

Warning: contains disturbing images

Thanks Heretic, glad you liked it.

The idea was that the injuries wouldn't be visible in the next location. I should've made that clear.

Thanks for reading.
