For the past 200 years, brilliant and disturbed Dr. Victor Helios has kept himself and his masterpiece monster, Deucalion alive through his work in genetics. They have set up shop in New Orleans, where the Doctor has started a genome research institute, where he is going about using his prototype to create a master race, which will eventually take over the Earth from the conventionally-produced humans. But Detective O'Connor is investigating the spate of gruesome murders that have plagued the city, and the trail leads her to the doctor. Meanwhile, Helios's tormented creations are becoming increasingly erratic in their behavior. Originally conceived as a pilot for a television series, the script for FRANKENSTEIN was directed by Marcus Nispel with Martin Scorcese as executive producer. The star-studded cast also includes Adam Goldberg,  Michael Madsen and Ivana Milicevic.

So what is their to say about Frankenstein... one of the many to come out over the years. Well it's not Frankenstein but they do mention Frankenstein which defeats the point of calling it that.

I enjoyed the film but they were way too ambitious on a television budget. Frankly it falls flat, every character looks dirty or as if they haven’t washed leading up to the film. Parker Posey looks like she has dirt make-up on her cheeks the whole film and it’s distracting.

Michael Madsen gives a great performance.

The movie is easy to follow the story and the progression of the characters… they added in Parker Posey’s partner as comic relief which is always annoying in films but the guy gives a good performance.

They leave the film off like it will have a sequel but Ghosts of Mars also did this and never made a sequel so they basically stuck that in our asses and said run with it.

Oh did I mention it was directed by the Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s (Remake) director Marcus Nispel? Scorsese put his name on this? How the mighty have fallen.

Overall it’s a disappointing film but it is enjoyable and I would recommend watching it if not for the good acting in a weak film.

It has a 30 minute featurette which is a behind the scenes look at the film which is a cool thing for a film like this. It also has a commentary with Marcus Nispel

It’s just above average but worth a watch if you like different types of who did it mysteries with a little science fiction added in for good measure.

Darn! I thought this was the review for the 1994 Kennth Branhagh's Frankenstein. Thats one of my fav evr movies. Maybe I'll post a review for thta film myself...
