DvD Name: Jay and Silent Bob Do Degrassi: Unrated Directors Cut.

Grene: Canadian Mellow Drama,Comedy,Teen

why it was done:Kevin Smith, a long time Degrassi fan, lives out his dream of being on the show it's self.

what is Degrassi?: Degrassi was a Canadian Mellow Drama that started in the 80's and evolved from Degrassi Jr High to Degrassi High (sometime by the early 1990's) the show ended and a flim was made (Degrassi:School's Out) which tied up loose ends and everything.

years later Degrassi:The Next Generation comes along (which is the show the DVD is about) with the kids of past students (old cast members are part of the show) and follows the tradtion of the old show.

Story info: Kevin Smith visits Canada to find locations for his newest flim "Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, EH" in which Jay and Bob leave the USA to get there high-school diplomas they never got in canada, because they have been kicked out of every school in the USA. While doing a TV interview, Kevin Smith,  is told of Degrassi high, whishing to scout it for his new flim. Smith decideds to shoot there, but that doesn't stop the everyday lives, or the drama of degrassi from taking place.

what i think:

If your a Degrassi Fan or a Kevin Smith fan (me) your going to want this DVD. for being olny 3 episodes from the fourth sesson (olny 1 and 2 are on DVD so far) it has quite a few features, the few i have watched are very entertaining and add to the enjoyablity of this DVD.

the three show arc is well done and intergrades Smith into the show without destroying continutiy of past shows at all. if your not a fan of Degrassi and don't know anything about the past episodes, then you may find your self wondering "what the hell is going on" when it comes to the drama of the degrassi kids, but i assure you that the Parts  with Kevin Smith all will make sence to you and leave you laughing, even if the most dramatic parts leave you a lil confused.

a down side to this is that the last show ends so it could be a continued story line (even with smith out of the picture) this left me wanting more and unfortunely for me season 4 is a ways away, and unless you watch the N (these aired summer of 05 in the states) then you missed shows after it and probly any thing to do with the Smith Love tri-angle.

all in all it was a great buy (15.88 US) and worth the money i spent. if you were not a fan of the show (i was not a fan of the show) you might be by the time your done with this DVD, i know even though i did not like the show at first, it has started to grow on me.

DVD *****outta*****

Features *****outta*****

verdict: Buy it!

The DVD has last season's final three episodes.  However, Monday's new episode had Mewes and Smith again.  And they'll also be on next week's episode.  That makes five episodes in total that they've been on, and I wish they'd stop being billed as "Guest Stars".  They should join the show and be regular stars.  The only episodes I've ever had any interest in watching were these ones, and they're really good.  Although I'm beginning to care for the other characters, but I'm only watching the episodes which contain Mewes and Smith.  Because of Canadian Content requirements, Smith isn't allowed to write or direct the episodes he's in, but everyone wants him to, so that's why there is talk that he'll write and direct a Degrassi movie.  That'll be a movie which I'll definately watch.

As a Canadian and a avid fan of the original and next generation of Degrassi also of kevin Smith and knew he loved this show from Mallrats so it all seems to go hand in hand and this is a great little short DVD package with some great extras as all Kevin Smith releases have.

But if you hate Degrassi or Canadian TV you should not purchase this as Jay and Bob are basically only in it for a little bit and it's mostly the show.

Remember that, about 70% is Degrassi storylines and the rest is Kevin Smith. About 3% is Jason Mewes and all he really does is hit on 13 year old girls... Canadian writers have sick minds if you ask me.

You'd think that in Canada they'd have it on store shelves to buy (The Season DVD's for the original or NG) but no the only place I can find it is online.

I liked Jay and Silent Bob in Dogma, Clerks, and other movies where they were supporting characters.  I hated Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.  I don't think the characters are interesting enough to warrant their own movie.

Funny, when I was in college, the campus I studied at was were they actually used to film the Origional Degrassi series.  Me and my buddies would give each other nick names like Snake and Wheels.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of Kevin Smith. I don't see what's so special about him. His films have a few laughs but that's about it for me.

I've seen in him person and he's acted like a complete prick. When he was filming those Degrassi episodes he would go to this crummy little bar in my area, sit there and drink wine.  We told a waitress to invite him over to our table and he just sent her back to us with a smart ass remark.  Unless it wasn't him but we were all pretty damn sure it was. Sorry for being friendly.

Anybody else hear that kevin Smith is back on degrassi this upcoming week (If you're in Canada and get the series new episodes) I heard on a commercial "In an all new episode, kevin Smith returns..." Can anyone verify this or was I dreaming?

I'm sure i clearly heard this on TV.

What is this? -- is this Movie Poop Chute?  "Strike Back" is great!  I laugh whenever Mewes says anything, even if it's not a joke.  If Banana Chan or Cara Chan ever got produced, I'd want Smith to direct, and Mewes to provide the voices for Baka and Anton. (Baka is a character from Banana Chan.  Anton is a character from Cara Chan.)

Yes.  In fact, I said it earlier in this thread.

Anyway ... for totally unrelated news ... go to a different thread.

Yeah, im not sure why he is back (who cares really, Smith= god) but he helps Pagie and someone else deal with the sexuality, because paige kissed some girl and there is much confusion.

saw this while looking up any info on a Smith Return, now thanks to smith i too am what he calls a "Degrassi Whore" i hope they continue somthing with the Joey,Catlin,Kevin tri-angle.

I've watched the DVD 3 times so far, once with the commentry and twice without and i still can't stop laughing at them.

"How did she become principal when she doesn't speak gooder english like us americans"-Jason Mews- "Going down the road Pt.1"

*sigh*  The quote should be attributed to whomever wrote the episode, and not the actor who spoke it.

Some of the greatest quotes in history are never by the person who says them... Even the president has a writer but that's because he's dumb (But we don't talk aboot that)

Thanks anyway as I'm too lazy to actually do any looking up myself (Degrassi probably has a .ca or .com website by now) And this kind of makes that Jay and Bopb Go Canadian DVD pointless if he comes back so soon.

Either they need Kevin or he somehow convinced them to bring him back... I'd love to see him in the role that he talks about on the DVD.

Americans stole Jim Carrey and in return we'll steal Kevin ha-ha

All Presidents had writers. And those writers had writers and I'm sure there were some interns below those guys too.  ::) But I don't want to get into that.

I was never a Jay&Silent Bob fan. They were OK in Dogma and Mallrats, but nothing groundbreaking.

Not groundbreaking but fun entertainment and isn't that all they are supposed to be? I like Kevin Smith, he's a naturally funny guy who just happens to make some enjoyable dumb films that make people feel better in whatever way.

What I meant was that I think Jay and Silent Bob are a bit overrated. I agree with Phil, they didn't need an entire movie dedicated to them.

I think they did, without that film I'd never have knew who Kevin Smith was. Beofre 2001 when it came out I had no clue who he was and still wouldn't to this very day unless that film caught my eye on DVD.

I know it's a personal reason but the truth is the truth and I cannot sugar coat it. I agree to a certain degree that they didn't NEED the film but just look at Kevin Smith, can you blame him for doing it?

Overrated... Yeah, I'll give you that much.

You have to remember though, lines for jay are based on previous stuff that all ready exist, which was written by kevin smith, which is loosely based on Mews when he was about 16. (Smith said something on the DVD of strikes back) so without Jason Mews, Kevin may not have thought of the Jay concept, which would have made it so the character was diffrent ,if made at all, and that line may have not ever come to be.

Same with Smith's line, all are based on things he has said about him self, that is why it sounds so much like him.

Besides i think olny Mews could excute that line the way he did and make it so memorable and funny.

I hope i made sense, it's midnight and it seems to make sense, but that could be because it's so late. oh well, you get what im saying right?

Yeah, they don't need an entire movie; they need at least thirteen.  They should hurry up and churn out more while they're still alive.
