I read this over the weekend and I have to say it's one of the most original and compelling novels I've ever read. A blend of horror, science fiction, psychological thriller, and black humour, it's almost impossible to categorize.

"Isserley always drove straight past a hitch-hiker when she first saw him, to give herself time to size him up. She was looking for big muscles: a hunk on legs. Puny, scrawny specimens were no use to her."

From the opening paragraph, you might think this novel follows a predictable course, but the ride that follows is a bizzare and unexpected journey into the psyche of our protagonist, Isserley. The intrigue Faber creates is phenomenal. Who is this woman? What is her interest in buff male hitchhickers? Any assumptions you have are immediately thrown out.

I don't want to go into details at risk of spoiling it for anyone, but I will say that this is a fantastic read. It's been described as the Animal Farm of this century and I'd have to agree.
