SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Greetings!  I'm new!

I'm new here.  I've browsed the forums for a little bit before I joined but not too deeply.  During my time here I've browsed a few of the scripts.  The site appears to be a very valuable tool for writers to get their work seen; whether it be for actual application or just sharing one's love.  I've submitted my own comedy for your enjoyment.  It is my first.

Scriptwriting, for me, is not really a passion I must admit.  I do not intend to do this as a career.  It's more about entertaining my imagination and sharing that with others.  It's just very fun.  Some of my friends and I write these up and share them with each other for laughs but "Botched!" surprised me.  When I had finally completed it I appeared to have a full length script!  There are some parts that may disturb people (and, looking back, may need revisions) but you must understand that this is coming from comedic moments my friends and I had.  Just making jokes and thinking "Hey.  That would be hilarious if it were in a movie, show, etc"

Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the stuff I post and I will try to contribute my own comments as well.  Peace  ;D

Welcome to the boards. While you may be doing this for fun, there are many on here who do intend this as a possible career, so if some people just seem harsh or nitpicky, that's why. By no means should anything said about a script or idea be taken personally. Hope you enjoy this odd little family we've put together here.

I'm sure I will.  One of my friends is serious about this stuff so I understand.  As long as the criticism is relevant and constructive I am all ears.

Whether or not you're here as a hobby or if you're pursuing a career in screenwriting, it's good to read and critique other people's work and comment on them.  It encourages others to read and critique your work.

And, should you review someone's work, don't just write, "This script rocks!"  Go into detail.  Writers here, for the most part, would rather you write 1000 words on what was wrong with the script than 10 words on what was right.  There are a few people here who write, "I like this script," or "Good job."  After a certain point, people get the impression you're not reading the script but pretending you are so other will read yours.

Also, it's good top review scripts to see if others agree with you or not.  If you are always the lone wolf in how you feel about a script, then there may be a problem.

Well put.  I am one of those people that would like this to be my career, but I'm interested to see how people that aren't seriously involved in screenwriting view our work.  It should be a good balance of opinions.

John, maybe you can do more than repeatedly sell yourself on the boards.  That's all that you've done since you started posting.  Read and review some scripts.
