SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Hello everybody!
Posted by: Bluetone, January 24th, 2006, 9:21am
Just signed up yesterday, I've been searching for screenwriting forums for a few weeks now, been visiting the website for the same amount of time and only realised the other day that this forum exists!

Anyway, I'm an editor by trade, but wanted to make a move into directing and thought what a better way than to start with my own script rather than someone elses. I'm currently in the middle of one, my first attempt, and was hoping for some critique and to learn from people that know what they're doing, as well as contribute to the forum myself.

So hello to everyone!

Hello Peter

Welcome to SimplyScripts..

There's a lot of kind folk here who'll point you in the right direction and offer valued criticism of your work..

If you need help, advice about screenplay formatting, structure, dialogue, inciting incident and reversals then you've come to the right place.. Story is something highly valued here too.. Having a sense of humor won’t go a miss..

A community where other writers can help each other overcome their addiction.

Keep us posted when you have something you'd like people on these boards to read..

Alternatively, post some questions if you require any advice.. Or just want to get involved reading and critiquing other’s scripts..

Nice to meet you by the way..

Hey Pete! Is that alright if I call you Pete? Because if it isn't, I'm still gonna call you that.

Just kidding. Your choice.

Anyways, have fun writing scripts, and we're here to help you make them better if they aren't already! Just remember to write good scripts or we won't read them and leave you hopelessly lost out in the cold streets of wherever you live getting money off of dropping change from people's bags and behind dumpsters.

Just kidding...again.

Yup, a lot of good writers here and I think you are going to enjoy it!

Sean

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Pete is fine, I've answered to worse.

When I do post something for critique do you guys prefer full scripts or is a wip okay?

Hey Pete:

There is a specific board to discuss ongoing works in progress.  You should check that out if you haven't already.

If somebody is going to invest the time in reading a feature, they generally hope to find your best, most polished effort.  That is what you should post when you are ready for some feedback.

People will almost never return to read the same piece twice -- so if you post something rough, you end up getting feedback on that rough work, and then, nobody ever sees the good stuff, you know?

Good luck with your projects.

Hi Bert,

Yeah, that's a fair point, I'll have to get my keyboard into gear then.

I'll check out the rest of the boards as well.

Thanks

Peter

From my observations people will read anything from 5 page shorts to 140 page epics..

Spec scripts are best brought in at 90 pages at least or 100 pages at most..

Seems to be an industry convention based upon submission requirements and maybe a good habit to get into seeing most writers who visit these boards are Spec Script writers themselves..

Might be a good idea to write a 6 to 10 page short to flex your muscles so to speak.. Submit it then wait for the whips to starft lashing..

Ouch...

...... lol! Welcome and remember, in case of emergency, speak in clichés.

Good luck with your work on the forum.

If you post a rough draft and get good feedback and want to post it again but are afraid nobody will come back you can always trick them. Change the title and repost it  :D :D

If it's good people will come back, I read a screenplay 3 times and loved it every time but of course it was great and nothing has ever lived up to it since.

Anyways hope your time here proves to be most enjoyable as a lot of people will try to break your spirits but just write what you want to write and forget the rest of us until you need some reviews.

Actually half of my family is from liverpool half from Sunderland. I was born in sunderland but raised in Newcastle Upon Tyne for the first eleven years of my life before moving back to sunderland.

So I'm a Mackem with a Scouse heritage and a Geordie upbrining  ;D

as for scripts hmm

Rampage

Terrible I know but it was my first

and another series I never finished

Haunted Houses

http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-series/m-1112050407/

a sort of fake reality ghost hunt show.

I really should learn to finish things before I move on.  :B

Oh yeah the reason it says Rampage is by DarkForce is because I am also DarkForce. Basically I couldn't remember my password so I became Wolfsfang. Then I remembered it again but eventually decided to stick at being wolfsfang as I liked that name better. Phew
