SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Mr. Gloom movie updates
Posted by: FilmMaker06, April 3rd, 2006, 4:03pm
With the permission of Mike I'm going to film his short film "Mr. Gloom." I'm going to try and keep you all updated like Topher has with "Frozen."

I'm starting to storyboard/3D pre-viz everything and I should begin casting in early May. I'm going to be shooting with two shoulder mount miniDV cameras with a boom mic, a steadycam tripod, dolly, and a camera crane.

I'm going to edit it on Adobe Premiere and color grade with another software that I forgot the title of.

After all of that, I'm going to be sending it to every festival I can and then put it on the internet to buy on DVD.

The offcial website should be up with in the next few days, so keep a look out for that. It'll only be a teaser site until we get a cast together and some footage shot.

Heres a calendar of events for the film:

PRE-PRODUCTION:
April - Storyboarding/Pre-viz

May/June - Casting, location scouting.

June - Script practice

PRODUCTION

June/August - Shoot Film

August - Shoot pick-ups

POST-PRODUCTION

September -  Editing

October - Sound FX/Music

November/December - Color grade

January/December - Festival run

March - Online DVD Release
---------------------

I'll post more updates as things happen. Keep the film in your prayers/thoughts!

Awesome, on the note of "Frozen" it's been pushed back due to delays and work obligations.

I was wondering why there were no updates. Well, I hope everything works out with it. Will there be any way for us to see it?

Ah yes, after I finish shooting "Good Try We Don't Like It" we might shoot "Frozen" on the side.

Here's a teaser poster:

Do you have of your work posted online?
Posted by: FilmMaker06, April 3rd, 2006, 5:46pm; Reply: 6
No, I don't. :(

This will be my first directing job. I'm producing, editing, and doing visual effects for an up coming film that my friend is directing. And I've been DP for three other films.

So I can't really say I have any work to post online. This'll be my first, and if it makes any money with festivals, I hope to put it toward producing a few more simply script short films and maybe a feature one day.

Good luck! It's nice to see scripts on this site make it to the medium they're written for.
How do you have access to all that nice equipment?
Posted by: FilmMaker06, April 3rd, 2006, 6:07pm; Reply: 8
I saved up or sometimes only got one or two things for Christmas. Ha-Ha.

My true passion was/is to become a director. Then I figured I'd try this writing thing. Now I love it. So I want to do both. Write and Direct. So thats why I bought the equipment. Not because I'm an idiot. he he.

Thanks!

-Landon

PS: I'm going to be contacting a few people over the next few weeks about their scripts if I think I can film it. Of course, I can't start making one while I'm making this, but its always good to start planning the film before you start anything. :)

I don't like always being the doom and gloom but this is for screenplay works in progress and not film. Just thought you should know that, good luck though.

No one said that about Frozen. But thanks!

Oh, I am so jealous. Dolly and camera crane? How'd you afford that? How old are you? I can barely afford the paper to print the scripts on.

Because I don't remember that, I thought it was an update on the screenplay.

I can just move it to getting to know you where heretic put his and so did AmericanSyCo, just as reference to others who posted a similar thing.

Nothing against you, support the brotherhood of writers turned directors but we have to be fair to everybody else.

I'm 14 (almost 15) years old.

Like I said, I just saved up or only got one or two things for Christmas for the past three years. ha-ha.

And I use what I win from festivals to put into my next film.

There isn't much of an update other than we're fixing to start casting this thing. After that, it'll just be nothing but waiting until July so we can shoot it. The reason we're waiting so long to shoot is because we're developing and animating an anime cartoon and we're also shooting two other short films that we've been working on for the past few months.

And speaking of our anime series....around August you'll be able to see the first episode in a series we hope to continue making. We're designing and storyboarding the first episode right now and we'll begin animation in May. We'll only be able to an episode every few months because of the lack of animators.

Anyway, enough with the advertising...

PS: Pictures of the cast will be on the official 'gloom site' once the roles are filled.

Thats odd, it works for me now.  Earlier I was just getting a plain white screen.

Tell me where you live so I can steal it.

Good luck, sounds exciting.

I live at 142 Tornak Drive VA.

Go ahead, try and steal it...once you get there, you'll feel like an idiot. ha ha. :)

I was kidding. I always forget to add the smileys....:)
Posted by: FilmMaker06, May 5th, 2006, 9:08am; Reply: 28
That's not really where I live. That isn't a real place, and VA is a long way away from me.

That doesnt even make sense.....

Everything (as far as shoot dates) are planned out. Casting has been held back due to the fact I've been really busy with my other film.

I'm going to start looking for actors over the month of June.

The official release date is being changed from Spring of 2007 to fall of 2006.

Once filming wraps and the first rough edit of the film is complete, I'm going to have a temp website with a link to the video.

No one will know the website link except those I tell, so that means a select few of you will be "invited" to the pre-screening so you can review it before it comes out.

I'm only going to ask three people to see it. The pre-screening will probably take place in July, but who knows?

You could do a live webcast...
Posted by: FilmMaker06, May 29th, 2006, 8:03pm; Reply: 33
I've already planned a way on how to do it. The three people have been contacted and I'm waiting for a response from one of them.

I'd like to be in on that pre-screening as well.

Are the three people ones who have read the script?
Posted by: FilmMaker06, May 29th, 2006, 9:20pm; Reply: 35
I'm not sure if they've read the script or not. And of course you'll be able to see it. I'll just send you the rough cut in an email on July 31st.

The lead male teenager in Mr. Gloom is cast (well, almost). I'm still confirming everything with the actor.

Pictures will be posted of him as soon as we make sure he will for sure be acting in it.
