I'm personally talking to Eli Roth and his production company, Raw Nerve, about The Basement. Eli said he is going to read the script tomorrow. (The revised version that none of you have read yet)

...holy shit.

Congrats and good luck!

Errors are corrected.
More character.
The sex scene is changed. (if you read it you will know what i am talking about)
More blood haha.
More explanation on things that were not explained.

If anyone else plans on reading it i would wait till i have the revised version up.

How did he come by The Basement?
Posted by: Antemasque, April 28th, 2006, 2:27pm; Reply: 6
I've been talking to him for a few weeks. And i mentioned the Basement. And he asked to check it out cause he could get it made or find someone to do it.

Congratulations, I could so see Eli Roth digging your script.

Hopefully we see your story turn to life from this.

How dare you pass your script along without letting us rip it apart first!!!

For shame, Andrew....

Actually, that sounds pretty cool.  I mean, you could detect the sarcasm, right?

So how on earth do you get so close to somebody like that -- and get...let's just say "access"...to some of the films you comment on from time to time?

Do you have relatives in "the business", or just lead a charmed life?

I don't suppose you'd be willing to divulge his email, would you??? :D

I had a feeling somebody eventually would not believe what Andrew said but Eli Roth... He's not that big of a director and I believe it.

Why would he say something that could come back to haunt him, just makes no sense to lie. The fact this doesn't happen every day proves he's not making it up.

I believe Andrew, too.  I get the feeling he's got family in the biz....

Oh, and I almost forgot --

Hey, Andrew -- I rented "Hostel" this weekend -- when you see Roth, tell him he owes me four bucks!!!!!!

GOD, what a piece of steaming crapola that was.....
Posted by: Old Time Wesley, April 30th, 2006, 3:17pm; Reply: 21
I am guilty of being an Eli fan but I find the guy to be a complete asshole. His comments in an interview before Hostel was released offended me because he made certain comments about the country I call home.

Nevertheless, I enjoy Cabin fever and Hostel for what they are mindless entertainment.

GODDAMIT WHY WON'T HOSTEL OCME OUT IN AUSTRALIA?
edit: It was out in cinemas a while ago, but not in video yet...

Haha. That's good, it seems Roth's budgets keeping on getting slowly bigger, so if he makes Basement it will be atleast $6,000,000 +

I dont' believe him either, but who cares?   But even if he did make it up, how could you prove he did?  All he would have to do is say Eli wasn't interested and viola situatin blows over.  But I don't find it surprising that Eli Roth would be interested in a 17 year old's script.  It's in his range.

Eli just bettter recognize that I'm gong to be stealing his girlfriend, Barbara Nesteljakova, from him in the near future.

so you'll excuse me if i dont just believe it cause you say so.i gotta see some hard evidence

Just to side with Andrew, I figure my world isn't going to change whether he knows Eli Roth or not. If he does, swell. Good for him. It's a great opportunity to get to know someone in the industry. Roth is a person like anyone else, and it's possible he is up for some talent.

If he's lying, it's no skin off my back. God'll sort him out for us in the end.

So no evidence needed. Congrats and I hope the relationship goes somewhere productive. Don't waste the chance you've been given. And if it's the other way...well, shame on you and all that rubbish.

I think everyone is just taking this too seriously.
Posted by: Steve-Dave, May 1st, 2006, 12:46am; Reply: 26
Why should he even have to prove anything? Nobody needs to prove nothing to nobody. If he is lying, it's prety pointless, 'cuz what does that prove? Like George said, if it's true great, if not it doesn't matter.

I belive him. Basement is a terrific script, and Eli Roth's scripts have been in Basement's theme.

Plus, Roth ahs been known to go on special internet chatroom reviews and apparently has a Myspace. Nerds aint hard to contact,

That's true. I've been contacted by an ex-girlfriend and one of my wife's ex-boyfriend's. This nerd is everywhere. Google "George Willson" with the quotes and most ofthe results are yours truly. If it's about movies or music, it's almost certainly me.

And thanks for the compliment on The Basement.

Good luck with this Andrew and George.
As for all the non-believers, well, it's not that hard to meet someone if you're in the same area, really want to meet them, and you're NOT obnoxious about it.
I've met people. Only one movie producer, but more than a handfull in the music business.
To go a step beyond just the minor meeting... Rob Zombie invited us all to an after hours party about eight years ago, and a friend of my daughter's partied with the guy from White Stripes Friday night, too. So? They're only people. When I was in the army, a sargent told me that if I met a general I would probably say something like, "Hey how you doin?"
Yeah. So?
I believe you, and good luck with this.  :)

1. Someone who pretends that famous people are his/her friends.

2. Someone who seeks to impress others by a studied but apparently casual mention of prominent persons as associates.

Guy Jackson,

stfu. you started with me before and now you are again. GROW UP! and get a damn life. seriously, youre acting like a little kid.

You know, I really don't see the big deal some people are making out of this.  He said he's had contact with Eli Roth, and he's interested in taking a look at a piece of his work that in my opinion is the type of film he would make.  What's the big deal?  My advice to those making comments would be to say congratulations and move on.

If you believe he's not telling the truth, and it turns out that he isn't. well nothing is going to come of it right?  But if he is, and Eli ends up producing this movie, you're just gonna look like an ass, and I'll laugh at you.

Doesn't anybody here ever send out queries to different prodcos, agents, whatever?

My question is this.  Is the revised version longer?  The one listed is only at 64 pages, which would fall well short of a feature.

Actually, based on the question I posed above about querying, I think I'll start a thread on that.

All the time. It was my lack of responses to said queries that made me want to discuss coming up with a snappy log and synopsis on my work.

I don't get why things like this must become of things like this. I'm sure Andrew isn't lying, just excited, and then Guy Jackson and the other people have to go and put water on his flame. Pff. And if you don't believe him, why did you respond? You know what it is gonna start! And like George said, if he is lying who cares?

I believe you because I've talked to quite a few directors! I've even emailed Peter Jackson! I got his email off the Directors Guild site...of course, he didn't respond and blocked my name and had his email taken off...but oh well. I've also emailed and have had responses by the director of the upcoming "Eragon" movie and the asst. director of Narnia...so it isn't impossible...you just have to act professional and know what you're doing.

I hope it works out for you, Andrew! If it does, I can't go see it because it'll be rated R but that’s ok! I'll rent it on DVD! Ha ha.

Good luck and let us know what happens!!!!

Ok, I laughed at that, but I think that's why there are some having a hard time believing in all this.  There's a name attached.

I mean, I got on here just prior to Andrew and stated that I had sold a script and got nothing but congratulations.  Of course, I sold my script to a small prodco in Pennsylvania that has produced a few other films and don't have any high end attachment at all, but had I said I sold my script to Sam Raimi or Kevin Smith or some other well known director, I guarantee somebody would have called shenanigans.

Just my logic.

Posted by: George Willson, May 1st, 2006, 2:00pm; Reply: 41
I could see some posts being removed, but locked? This thread is no where near the insanity some threads have gotten to in the past. It's primarily Andrew's excitement over what's happened. Nothing wrong with that, IMHO.

And Mike, you have a very, very solid point there.
Posted by: AmericanSyCo (Guest), May 1st, 2006, 2:03pm; Reply: 42
In the words of Big Bird after seeing the effect of 9/11 on Sesame Street:

"Wh... wha' happened?"

Andrew, good luck.  I have yet to see "Hostel," but I did see "Cabin Fever" many times and I believe that Eli Roth truly has some talent.  If what you are saying is true, then a very big congratulations.  My only slight reservation is that you are talking about this with such openess.  It is my experience that when something such as this does occur, you are forbidden to really discuss it in an open forum until A.) it is produced or B.) you are just told you can.  However, I'm sure everyone has different ways of doing things, so I'm sure it is very possible that there is nothing wrong with what you are doing.

To the nay-sayers... who cares?  Writers, no matter how young, are discovered everyday.  Sam Raimi produced a horror movie written and directed by an eighteen year-old, so the age-factor does not necessarily make it untrue.

Don, don't lock this thread.  Everyone just needs to listen to that voice that is hiding away in the back of their heads:

"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

Please Guy DO NOT tell what to do and NOT to do with MY thread that I started. This whole problem started because of YOU. I thought you learned something last time that you attacked me.

TO MIKE: Yes the revised version is longer. I'm not sure by how much though. I'll have to wait and see when Don puts it up. I added a few new scenes but then again i cut some scenes. But then i added a little more detail but then i deleted some detail. So i'm not exactly sure but i know it is longer.

There is also a suprise scene at the end. (Which would play after the credits)

Hey Guy. Are you just jealous? I really did talk to Roth. He has email, myspace, yahoo and aim.

It's a person. It's not hard to contact people.

After reading this thread, it is my most humble opinion that everyone should just STFU!

It doesn't matter whether or not you believe Andrew in whether or not Roth asked to see his script.  If he did, then he did.  If he didn't, then he didn't.  If Roth did, he may not like it and that will be the end of it.  If he does like it and wants to produce, Mike will tell us.

Let's just sit back and wait until there's further word.

I like how Guy Jackson doesn't believe Andrew, yet can't stop talking about it. Guy Jackson, by posting how untrue his claim is all the time, you're doing exactly what he would have wanted if he is by some chance making it up. You're keeping the attention on the subject more the more you are posting how untrue it is, don't you realize that? You're the one keeping it going, if you'd just stop it would go away a lot sooner. What's it gonna prove by you keep saying that it's fake? My advice is just simmer donna Guy Jackson. Who cares? It's getting a little trite at this point, wouldn't you say??? And as for this...

Hey, you know, you live long enough, you meet famous people eventually from time to time. Andrew’s what? Seventeen? He’s just a kid. He’s excited. Let him have his moment. So what if it’s exaggerated or not. It’s not inconceivable that he would meet or talk to the guy. Or that the guy would accept his script. Whether or not he’ll produce it is another story. But either way wouldn’t negate his story.

I’ll admit that Andrew probably shouldn’t be telling us this. After all, it would be Mr. Roth’s personal business as well and this thread is a bit of a violation of business protocol. But if Mr. Roth is going to conduct business with a seventeen year old, I suppose he should have thought to tell an excited young man to keep a lid on it in the meantime. Mr. Roth is the adult. It’s his responsibility to set perimeters.

Aside from that, congratulations Andrew. And be careful. I know you idolize this guy but beneath Hollywood’s glitz, it is a business. And a very big one. Full of wolves. Just because Mr. Roth is friendly doesn’t mean he’s not one of them.

Best of luck to you. I hope it works out.

I googled my name once over the summer when I had lots of time and I look through like all the pagesd and one of the best things I found was a short story on someones blog about how a characteer named Tyler Higgins destroyed her characters Life by destroying a posicle structure or something.  I thought that was hilarious, I'll try to find a link.

And also my last name seeems to get used in a lot of movies and far side comics as "old man higgins"...

I don't mind using my real name. I figure if I ever send out something pimping my work, and someone decides to Google me, it'll add a lot of legitimacy to my claims of being rather prolific and widespread.

Another bit of happiness for me is that I'm responsible for every single Fempiror reference Google finds...even indirectly...so far.

I still haven't heard back from Eli but i have another director checking it out. He already gave me info on people to send it to and is going to help me get it up. I don't want to say who it is but he directed a really good haunted house movie in 1999. With that said it should be easy to figure out who it is.

If i do hear back from Eli i will tell you but things are going really good with this director. He is very, very helpful and definitly not a dickhead.

If this director that you speak of is who I think it is, just make sure to watch out.  Yeah, he made a really cool haunted house film in 1999... but he followed it up with an awful Stephen Dorff flick a few years later.
