SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Things you are looking for  /  Pls suggest a script to make
Posted by: sirish, May 4th, 2006, 6:00pm
A big hi to all the pros on the board! I am Sirish (19/M) from Bombay, India. I am presently at NYC for a filmmaking course. Our course is very intensive and short. In another 20 days time, we would be taught the A,B,Cs of 16/35MM filmmaking.

We are supposed to make our final film after that. I would like you to suggest me a comedy/Drama with minimum charecters (3-5 at the most), which require minimal resources and about 4-10 minutes in length. I understand that scripts are not "open source", but I would write to the author requesting him permission to 'direct' the script he had written and make a student film out of it. Ofcourse, its not for commercial purpose and just for education.

Thanks in advance to all the suggestions that are about to come.

You should be in a position to decide what to make for yourself, If this was Hollwood then you'd have to worry about what people wanted to see, but it's not so you should pick a topic that interests you.

If your looking for that Scipt, People on here may and may not help you out. But overall they will want to see the finished product in motion picture.

I second Pia on the Shorts section. Yes, there are a ton of them to dig through, but as a movie maker, that's part of what you do. If you don't like Helio's, then start digging and I'm sure you'll come up with something that is to your liking. While not all of the authors are part of the board, an email address is part of the submission requirement.

The easiest way to peruse all of them is to actually click on unproduced scripts at the top of the board and then click on shorts. This way, you can see a synopsis of every one of them without going thread to thread.

Thread to thread does have the advantage, however, of letting you see feedback about that script.

I agree with people on this DB to an extent. I have written a screenplay on my own. Its not formatted, as I dont have a screenwriting software - so pardon me. the "Union Square" in my script is a small park in New York. If anybody can read it and pass a verdict, I would be thankful. Cheers! Sirish

SCREENPLAY : REVERSE STRIKE

EXT. UNION SQUARE - DAY
A normal day in Manhattan with sunny weather. Three youngsters are
walking along the park having a conversation.

EDWARD (approx 25 years old) is good looking and is stylishly dressed.
JAMES (same age) looks like the Average Joe and is casually dressed.
RON (same age) is a normal youngster who is a silent spectator of the
conversation.

JAMES
So, what? You think you're a babe magnet, huh? What you dont
understand is that these broads chase you for your money, man. Not
that you're any better than most other guys around.

EDWARD
You think so?

JAMES
(sarcastically) Yeah. If I had the money you had I would have all
these chicks all over me.

EDWARD
Yeah, fine.

JAMES
What? You dont believe? If  you think you possess the "charm" and
"style" and blah blah - take a bet. I'll show some girl. Could be
anybody on the road. Why dont you just go walk upto her, start a
conversation and manage to get a date.

EDWARD
I am not trying to prove a point to you. So, why should I take this stupid bet.

JAMES
Nah! You know you cant win over those women if you dont flaunt those
cards, greens and your limo.

RON
Man, this sounds stupid. Ed, why dont you give it a shot - atleast so
that this fucker sits quiet.

EDWARD
Yeah, fine. But what if the woman you show has a boyfriend?

JAMES
I dont care. Just go there and flaunt your so-called "charm". (In a
mocking tone) Now, now dont tell me you are backing out. Are you?

EDWARD
You're such a loser.

JAMES
Dude, you'll be the real loser, if you lose on this one.

EDWARD
Fine, then. Game!

EXT. UNION SQUARE - DAY
The three just take a turn and keep walking towards the Subway
underground. All three stop walking after taking a turn.

JAMES
(pointing towards the Subway entrance)
Now, I would randomly pick any one of the women coming up the stairs.
Could be a blonde, brunette, mid-aged, pre-teen, old, fat, black,
Asian or anyone.

EXT. UNION SQUARE SUBWAY - DAY
(A long shot of the crowd walking up the stairs. Has both men and women)
Walking up the stairs is a well-dressed, pretty lady around 23-24 years.

JAMES
Now, see that broad there.

RON
Nah, not that one.

JAMES
Just shut up! Ed, here's your target. Just go and play your game.

EDWARD
(with a smirk) Are you sure its that lady?

JAMES
Yep.

EDWARD
You might want to reconsider your decesion.

JAMES
Your time starts now. Go!

EXT. UNION SQUARE - DAY
Edward is walking cofindently towards the oncoming lady. They make eye
contact.  Ed gives a subtle smile. The lady too smiles as she walks
towards him. James and Ron are watching the show from a distance. As
Ed comes closer to the lady, he walks faster and suddenly, collapses
on his knees just in front of her! He holds her hand, kisses it.

EDWARD
I love you!

THE LADY
(Confused) I love you too.

EDWARD
Now, let go out.

THE LADY

Fine.

JAMES
(shocked) What the fuck was that?

EXT. UNION SQUARE - DAY
Edward gets up and gives the lady a squeeze and a peck. Both of them
walk away talking to each other. Ron bursts out laughing.

RON
(Laughing out loudly) You stupid fuck! You're such a loser, man. The
girl whom you pointed out was Lisa, Ed's girlfriend.

JAMES
(with jaws dropped) It cant be!

EXT. UNION SQUARE - DAY
Edward turns back at the screen, winks and goes away. James is still
on the road, dumbstruck.

THE END

Wow, Pia, it was very kind, kid! Thanks a lot to you and George.

Yes, if my story doesn't fit your necessities, Sirish, so go to read the others nice scripts on SHORTS.

By the way, if you want just to have your story read, so post it on Unproduced Script and wait from the people all type of reviews and comments, but don't forget to read their works too.

PS: if you read my "The daily life of a dead man", so please, PM or let me know about that its board on Shorts.

Sirish

I know of a script which meets your requirements in minimal characters..

Breanne’s Been Kidnapped! by Prudence Pitwater - Short, Drama - Writer Breanne Holifield is missing and her “friend” is determined to find her. 15 pages - pdf, format

http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-short/m-1130586755/s-all/

Email Breanne and see if she can edit the script down to 10 pages for you as you would like to film this story.. Breanne is a very good screenwriter and if you do make this script into a movie short I'm sure Breanne could like a couple of copies on DVD for herself..

You will find her contact details in Breanne's personal details on the board..

Mention that Kevan from SimplyScripts has mentioned her script with the view it would meet your requirements..

Would make a good film short this screenplay...
