SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Might as well call myself new...

... because it's been a while.

When I first came to the boards (about a year ago, I believe), I submitted a 47-page junk pile of a script. I mean, parts of it weren't bad, but other parts were quite bad. Plus I used myself as a main character, an obvious no-no that I ignored. Despite having its moments, very amateur work. I was close to delivering on my promised re-work of the idea when my hard drive crashed.

But the critiques I got on it from this board were infinitely helpful. I sort of built from that, and now I feel like I've become a much improved writer since then. I'm even getting a little work now-- I'm doing the 48 Hour Film Festival in St. Louis.

And it's not like I've been completely away from the boards, I have been reading scripts and keeping up with The Lunchroom, but until school got out I didn't have time to write reviews. That'll change.

There is one pilot that I will be sending in as soon as I come up with a title for it. But I promise not to go trolling for reads... not right away at least!  ;D

I don't consider using yourself as a main character being a no-no. I actually do that a lot...I just don't use my name. I figure if I can write about anyone, I can write about myself, since I know how I act and react. So if you want to write about yourself, go ahead. No one knows you like you.

So welcome to the boards after a year. Hope you use the resource for all it benefits.

Oh, I know. I meant I shamelessly used my full name and description as a main character. These days, many of my main characters are at least still caricatures of myself.
